  1. The Royals should give Perez more breaks, he always fades hard in the 2nd half and he's doing it again this year. 1st half: .290/.318/.532 2nd half: .199/.229/.375 Ouch.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) That is what I'm saying. Had this trade occurred with 2 extra years of a cheap Chris Sale, the 3rd piece would've been much better IMO. Another top 100 guy. Who would have given us that package though? Looking back, the top farm systems at the end of 2014 were the Cubs, Twins, Astros, Red Sox, Rangers, Pirates and Dodgers. A pre-title Cubs would not be a trade partner, the Twins aren't happening, and I don't think the Pirates pull the trigger either on a Glasnow (#12)/Meadows (#30) led package. If they wouldn't this past offseason I don't think they do it in 2015 either. The Dodgers with Kershaw and Greinke are not going to be willing to part with some combination of Urias (#3)/Seager (#6)/Pederson (#11). The Red Sox were clearly intending to compete with the signings of Sandoval and Ramirez, but going by Fangraphs rankings of prospects in February 2015, their top prospects at the time were Swihart (#9), Rodriguez (#23), Owens (#33), Margot (#35) and Devers (#48). Even if we somehow got Devers as the third piece instead of the next prospect (Brian Williams at #104), is Swihart/one of Rodriguez or Owens/Devers better than what we got? Rangers had Gallo (#16), Alex Gonzalez (#27), Jake Thompson (#29), Mazara (#46), and Alfaro (#53). Would Gallo/one of Gonzalez or Thompson/one of Mazara and Alfaro be better? And that's probably unrealistic. Unless the Astros were willing to give up Correa (#5) they wouldn't beat what we got, and Appel (#18) would have been the second piece. Coming off a 92 loss season there's no way they do it. The only other team I could see being in the picture is Toronto with Norris (#17), Hoffman (#67), Sanchez (#70), Pompey (#80) and Pentecost (#93) but we'd want at least two top 50 guys and they didn't have the elite positional prospect we'd want. I'm not seeing a realistic package that would be better than what we got.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 12:35 AM) With what though? The only reason we have anything to build with now is because we traded them. I'm not saying it would have worked differently but we had just signed Quintana and Eaton to extensions and they hadn't really established themselves as much yet, why would we have traded them? And I don't really see us trading Sale at that point either. I also agree with you that Sale would not have gotten that much more either, there were still a lot of GMs probably worried that his arm was going to explode at any second. A couple more healthy seasons probably quelled a lot of those fears. It is interesting to think about where the roster would be at this point, though the only player we traded that I would have any interest in getting back is Semien (EDIT: I forgot about He Who Must Not Be Named), and even then he's looking like just a league average player. But a rebuild that started in 2013 would probably be expecting to compete around now or next season.
  4. On August 25th the Dodgers were 20 games ahead of the Indians. 18 days later and now they're only 4 games ahead. The Indians could very well take the #1 seed. That's nuts.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) It's crazy how much the sox bullpen has stabilized. When they are bad it seemsl ike they are all bad together. BUt otherwise they are decent. Infante has actually been really good the last two months.
  6. But if we hadn't gone for it in 2015 I don't think we trade those three, we still would probably be looking to build around them.
  7. That called third strike on Moncada was definitely ball 4.
  8. How about a slightly different what if scenario? Say we never went for it in 2015 and continued to rebuild. Would we have been competitive this year?
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) Also amazing: Tim Anderson was one double away from a cycle The sox had 3(!!!) players with a home run and a triple (Yolmer, TA, Abreu) Yolmer was also one double away from the cycle.
  10. Anderson is hitting .297/.311/.559 (126 wRC+) with a .262 ISO since the beginning of August (148 PA), and his BABIP is a not too outlandish .360 over that time for a guy with his speed. Got his WAR back into positive territory after yesterday's game.
  11. Still tied in the win column with the Giants
  12. Well yeah he's probably not this good but maybe he's not a total lost cause yet. At this point I'll be happy if he can be a decent 5th or 6th reliever out of the bullpen.
  13. Happy for Fulmer. He actually looked decent too.
  14. With all the guys breaking out this year across the league after years of struggling, I'm not worried. I think he'll need a couple seasons to figure it out and that's OK.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) Where is the tab, exactly? I can't seem to find it on bb ref. Thanks To the right of the big lettering "Standard Batting" there's a button that says "Show Minors". There's also a tab to the right of the "[Name of Player] Overview" tab that says "Minor Lg Stats".
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) At least Sunday is a guaranteed loss. I'll be happy with 1 out of 3 TBH. That will be the game we win because baseball.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) So much hype before the broadcast about kluber, gives up two homes in three batters Moncada almost hit one too, it was very nearly back to back to back.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 06:45 PM) I know minor league player stats don't "count", just like in the majors, but what happens to the numbers? For example, if you go to a player's baseball-reference page who played in the 2016 minor league playoffs, those stats are nowhere to be found. For the majors, there's at least the "postseason hitting" category. You can find them on both baseball reference and fangraphs, they're on separate tabs.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) Eh, it's been a knock. Mainly due to control but also prior to this season his inability to stay on the field. But I think this year answers alld oubts for me. I loved the interview last night. One, him acting like June was horrible for him and his desire to improve. And how he recognized immediately how he needed more development on changeup to work in AAA. He was good in AAA. So you know that when he means that he needs it, he means he needs it to dominate those hitters. I love that. Well to be fair it was a rather poor month. Averaged less than 5 innings per start, 6.95 ERA, and 18 walks in 22 innings.
  20. 1 GB of the Giants but they have 1 more win than us. We've only won 1 more game than the Phillies too.
  21. Man the defense really hates Lopez tonight.
  22. Another low strike not called, but Lopez got that same call earlier.
  23. Ump has been inconsistent on pitches low in the zone.
