The offer is going to be by far the most important variable, if we have the highest offer then I don't see why they wouldn't want to come here. I know the rebuild/Luis Robert acquisition signals that things are different from before, but JR would still need some serious convincing to pony up the needed 400-500 million or whatever it will be.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 12:48 PM) I am not in the belief that Rick is going to just give anyone away in this rebuild. Now I know some might not agree with that LOL I wouldnt put it past Rick to get a top 100 at the very bottom type guy for Swarzak. Someone is going to get desperate after they strike out landing the other guys. If the supply of relievers was razor thin then it'd be a different story, but with Hand/Neshek/Britton/O'Day/Brach/Wilson (and I might be forgetting others) still available there's enough relievers to go around. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Who cares what you are ranked. What matters is what these guys become. The Sox staff is on the clock. I'm not a huge fan of only judging trades based on the end results years later. Trades should be judged on both the end result and the value traded the day the trade was made. To make an extreme example, if we traded Courtney Hawkins for Mike Trout tomorrow and Trout got hurt in a freak accident and never played another game while Hawkins inexplicably somehow becomes an above-average regular, would that incredible stroke of good and bad luck make that trade a bad one for the White Sox?

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) The fact that apparently Hahn wouldn't budge on D-Rob for Robles straight up and then settles for a struggling 20 year old in A ball is very puzzling, I'm not big on Rutherford at all The lack of power this year is concerning but I wouldn't call a 112 wRC+ struggling. I also looked up the park factors for Charleston and it's a pretty big pitcher's park. He needs to start hitting for more power though, that .109 ISO is ugly.

QUOTE (Soha @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) I think there's a little bit of a glut of relievers available this year - as opposed to last year. Probably from teams seeing what the Cubs and Tribe paid last year. I'm skeptical that the Sox would have landed a top 100 prospect for Robertson. Maybe, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It didn't help that Baltimore tanked the last few weeks and went into sell mode with their glut of good relievers.

Updated Fangraphs ROS projections: Before the trade we were projected to finish at 65 wins, 5 games ahead of the Phillies. It's now down to 63, 3 games ahead of the Phillies. #1 overall pick could still happen. http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx

Hansen had a no-hitter through 5 2/3 but then hit a guy and gave up a single. Now he's done for the day. 8K, 2BB, 1H.

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...jor-trade-chip/ Sullivan thinks we should trade Kahnle and thinks the return should be pretty good if we do. Says he's really surprised that there's been no reported interest in him. This isn't news or anything but I agree with Jeff that the return should be solid, we should be able to get at least one top 100 prospect for him, and I don't think it necessarily would be a guy ranked near the bottom of that list either.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) That article was written before McMahon went off and is batting .356 - .402 - .597 in 2017 I know but I was more focusing on the part of the writeup about his defense. But he's also doing that in the PCL right? Colorado Springs boosts offense by 30% more than Coors does. I'm not sure I buy that he's suddenly transformed into an elite hitter. His line is also being pumped up a lot by that .421 BABIP.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) You're right, my statement is garbage simply because the White Sox team, ownership and front office are garbage. By the way, if the rebuild is just a smoke screen to lower payroll, then why in the world did the White Sox pay $50 million to acquire Robert? That would make zero sense if they're only concerned about making profits. That one move completely shatters your entire theory.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Everything I've read on him indicates he's very athletic and a good defender. BA said he was the best defensive 3B in the SAL in 2014. His chances of sticking at 3B are severely limited in Colorado by this guy named Nolan Arenado, you may have heard of him. Arenado is likely gone after next season so I doubt he'd block McMahon. But here's Longenhagen's writeup on McMahon: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-24-pros...lorado-rockies/

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Yep, not many 3Bs out there with 30+ HR, 10%+ BB, ~20% K potential and good defense. He would be a fine return, I'd think, for Avi. He and Tapia would have my head spinning. Aren't there a lot of scouts that think McMahon won't stick at 3B?

QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) With so many good pitching prospects, we are bound to have some guys in the bullpen. Where do we think they end up? Here is what I think... Kopech- Starter Giolito- Long Reliever Lopez- Starter Fulmer- Reliever Cease- Reliever Hansen- Starter Dunning- Reliever Adams- Reliever Stephens- Starter I think Adams actually has the highest likelihood of all of them to stick as a starter.

I remember some people being disappointed when the Yankees claimed Robertson on waivers last year and the Sox pulled him back, but that's about it.

Rays are interested in Justin Wilson.

QUOTE (KrankinSox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) I would absolutely make that deal. I am alittle confused about his wording regarding the Robertson trade. Is he speculating Andujar coming to the Sox for Robertson? If so, he's basically saying we could land Groom, Chavis, and Andujar for Frazier, Kahnle, and Robertson. That seems like a really nice return for the Sox. Yeah I would be very very happy if we ended up with those three.
-
QUOTE (striker @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Kahnle is under control for 3.5 years and right now is one of the top 10 relievers in all of baseball. I don't think you get Torres or Frazier, but I bet you could get some high ceiling low level prospect like Rutherford or Groome. Yankees have a lot of depth in the OF, they would trade some of it for success today. If Kahnle had a couple years of performing like this then maybe, but if a deal close to that was on the table the Sox would have already pulled the trigger.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) It can be a lot worse than TJ. See Nate Jones, Jesse Crain, or any pitcher that's had shoulder issues. Well technically worst case scenario would be Yordano Ventura or Jose Fernandez, right?
