  1. Holy s*** Lopez, that's in Charlotte too right?
  2. Fantastic trade for the Nats. Surprised Oakland couldn't do better.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) I'm not sure what you're asking. J2? If you mean international signings, I will ask this - how many of the top prospects we just acquired were international signings? But that's not my point anyway - my point is that we just gave Texas a goldmine, and received only 1 modest prospect in return. Now we may not have had any use for that goldmine ourselves...but you could say the same about Quintana - we had no use for him the next 2 years, but we still tried to get full value. What kind of prospect were you expecting? This guy is better than the typical prospect that gets traded in these types of deals. This was probably full value.
  4. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Not sure where you are getting your Boston media info but I have watched both Yankee games. The talk is mostly bridging the gap for Devers who now is at AAA. They have two young players, Marrero and Lin otating left and right. Lin is hitting over .300 and Brock Holt is getting close to returning. Last night they mentioned Frazier as another option out there but only in passing. But DD is quick with the trigger so maybe he won't be patient waiting for Holt and Devers. Lin and Marrero both couldn't hit in the minors (both have a career minor league OPS below .700) so I doubt Lin's production continues. Holt is also likely a utility player at best. And as I mentioned earlier, even if they want to give Devers a shot, I'd still rather have Frazier at 1B over Moreland.
  5. QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) ...and just like that, the Chicago Cubs are a losing team with a middling farm system. Middling implies middle of the pack, their farm system might be bottom 5 in the league now.
  6. Even if they plan on giving Devers a shot and he comes up and produces right away, Frazier could still make sense for Boston because they also have a hole at 1B. Overall this season their numbers are similar but Frazier has been way better than Moreland the past two months and at worst you could make Moreland a platoon bat since he sucks so much against LHP.
  7. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) Gray + Alonso is not going to come cheap. If the Yankees were not willing to pony up for Quintana, I'm not certain they want to do the same for Gray. They're going to need some pitching though and Gray is the best pitcher on the market with several years of control, the other options aren't really that great either. Alonso also fills a gaping hole. This move makes sense in both the long-term and short-term, they currently hold a Wild Card spot and aren't that far behind the Red Sox, I don't think they should just punt on this season. Their window has started this year. The free agent SP market this upcoming offseason also looks a hell of a lot weaker than it did just a few months ago. Pretty much everyone is underperforming and entering their 30s. There's a lot of potential upside but also a ton of risk in guys like Cueto (if he opts out), Arrieta or even a guy like Estrada. Darvish is the only one doing well but he has an injury history and will get an enormous contract into his mid to late 30s.
  8. A Gray/Alonso package seems to make a lot of sense for the Yankees at this point.
  9. I could see them going after Gray now.
  10. Cubs are pitching Quintana on Sunday so he should be set to pitch at GR on the 27th against the Sox.
  11. https://twitter.com/SSS_pnoles/status/885534133702848514 Perfectly said.
  12. I have a hard time seeing Burger crack the list, let alone Sheets and Skoug too, that seems crazy.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Unless they get him fairly cheap, I don't see it. The Brewers aren't far enough along to buy big on a half-season investment. Sonny Gray still makes some sense for them, but Darvish is gone after this year and if the Brewers come down to earth a bit and the Cubs start playing well, they're hoping and praying for a shot at a play-in game. That's not worth losing a prospect. The Royals would make sense for Darvish though. They are probably going to have one last hurrah before they are forced to rebuild, regardless of their willingness. Who can the Royals trade for Darvish though? He'll command a pretty good return and the Royals don't really have anybody to trade. The Rangers could do better.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Has he played any 3B down in the minors this year? No
  15. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) You and whoever you were talking to just don't understand baseball as much as I do apparently This comment just confirms that you are a troll, right? I mean it was already confirmed, but this just further cements it.
  16. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Hi guys, random question, don't follow too much baseball currently: Is there a chance that the White Sox trade Abreu? I'd imagine he'd net a nice prospect from a team needing some hitting power at the deadline. I'd love to see him go. If there was a better market out there for 1B I think he would go, but since the market is pretty weak I think he stays.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) I would rank the Braves #1, White Sox #2 right now, Astros/Yankees #3/4 Braves system is just so deep, which is what sets it apart. Their #1 through #20 are very legit, although our system is making huge strides. Curious as to why you rank the Astros so high, they seem to fall off pretty sharply after their top 7-8 or so.
  18. Reading the thread in /r/baseball and there are a few Cub fans downplaying Eloy, saying he'll probably be "Soler 2.0", funny how that always happens when prospects are traded.
  19. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) They have to have as many top prospects as any other team outside of one or two teams. The question probably is moreso around the quality of depth in the system behind the upper end. Most seem optimistic that the depth is starting to build, but that takes time. All I know is I feel a heck of a lot better about our prospects in the 10-20 range than I did a few months ago. I think we have decent depth now.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) So that has us with what... the number 2 slot? Yes http://www.fangraphs.com/coolstandings.aspx
  21. After the trade Fangraphs upgraded our ROS projections. We dropped from .380 to .362, 50 points behind the Padres who are the next projected worse team at .410.
  22. Favorite Sox pitcher since Buehrle easily. Will miss you greatly Quintana.
  23. I still hope he does well for the Cubs, I just can't root against Q.
  24. So I guess Quintana loved Drake too, huh? I still can't believe we actually got Eloy. That's awesome.
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 11:13 PM) Is an Albies, Maitian, and a pitcher or Acuna, Matian, and a pitcher out of the question for Q? Yes
