  1. I just want to know what it's like to win a series again.
  2. QUOTE (nathanbusch @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) they haven't even had 17 runners on base... If you have 2 runners on base with 1 out and then the next two batters get out without driving them in, then that counts as 4 runners left on base.
  3. I don't have a problem with the players not being super into the stats, that's for the GM and analytics team to do. Do whatever works for you.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) That's good to hear as well. Is it just his approach is flawed and he's not trying to pull the ball enough? I definitely think the approach is the issue. I don't think it's a coincidence that his best stretch of the season (last week of April through the first week of May) he was swinging at 76% of strikes. Outside of that stretch he's swung at 63% of strikes and has struggled accordingly. Seeing a lot more inside fastballs is also a big issue, but I think the not swinging at strikes thing is definitely the biggest. In 2014 he swung at even more junk than he does now, but he also swung at nearly every pitch in the zone. He needs to go back to doing that. The increase in soft-hit% that you're seeing is mostly coming from him hitting weaker grounders than the last couple years, but I think that's caused him to lose maybe about 4-5 singles, so I don't think it's a big difference-maker.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) Looking at his batted ball stats, literally every stat is trending down since 2014. He pulls the ball nearly 7% less, his soft contact rate is 6% higher and his HR/FB rate is almost 17% lower. He just doesn't have any bat speed these days. His exit velocity on line drives and flyballs is down 1 MPH from last year but is still well above league average (93 mph), and he's 5th in the league in average flyball distance, I don't think bat speed is the issue.
  6. Avi or Rollins against a fastball throwing righty aren't exactly great choices either.
  7. QUOTE (Chris Sale @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Sands K, who saw that one coming? Well I thought he'd strike out swinging not looking, so it was still a surprise for me.
  8. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) All you can do is ask Miguel Gonzalez to keep you in the game for 5-6 innings each start & he is doing that with consistency. He's fine as a 5th starter, problem is he's our #4.
  9. DeGrom's velocity has been down a few ticks all season.
  10. QUOTE (Coach @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Neither is having Abreu swing at 3-0. Games are won by having base runners on with others bringing them in. Not homers. Both can win the game, I've never understood the hate for homeruns some people have. And those two scenarios are not the same. 99% of the time bunting is not a good idea, but swinging at 3-0 is often a good idea, because pitchers often throw meatballs right down the middle to avoid the walk (see EJ's last start against the Indians for a great example). If you get a great pitch to hit on that count, swing away.
  11. I'm not really against the idea of a complete rebuild when necessary, the problem I have with it is that all the advocates for it assume it will be a success. For every successful rebuild there's one that completely fails. There's a good chance we end up like the Twins, throwing away several seasons on a rebuild and then still being bad.
  12. QUOTE (Coach @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) You mean like Melky's Sac bunt? Definitely was never a good idea in the first place.
  13. QUOTE (Coach @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) Sure worked. He popped it up into foul territory. Out. How's that confidence thing working out. Just because it didn't work in that AB doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea to do it.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) Gut feeling is the replacement for Gonzalez comes outside the org I think I'd rather have Gonzalez in the rotation than Latos at this point.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Disagree, let him swing 3-0 and get a meatball and hopefully he bombs one and gets some confidence. Completely agree, perfect time to let him swing and try and get out of the funk.
  16. I've come around to liking LeBron again since he went back to Cleveland. I'm with J4L, he deserves better than a 2-5 Finals record.
  17. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 12:14 AM) Hate to say it, but I told you all so. I don't want him to fail, I could just tell by how poorly he looked. Abreu has been pure trash this year. Yeah sure, you "hate to say it". No one's buying what you're selling, troll. The only thing that's trash here is your posting.
  18. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 12:31 AM) OK how do you ignore someone? Go to My Controls in the top right and under Options on the lower left side click on Manage Ignored Users.
  19. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 31, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) I'm sorry but that is such a ludicrous viewpoint to have as a fan. It's one thing to be willing to lose late in the season so changes are made or a better draft pick is to be had but it is f***ing May 31 and they are just 2 games back despite losing 7 in a row. I swear some of you people like to see them fail just so you have something to whine about and it really makes it a chore to even visit this board at times. Pretty much exactly why I've avoided this board like the plague this past week. I understand people being upset with the recent play (I am too), but this board just becomes a cesspool of whining and despair in times like this, and that makes for a s***ty board experience, especially since the crowd of "I told you so" posters that seem to take some kind of twisted pleasure in seeing the Sox lose often take over.
  20. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) Ramirez with another long at-bat... Already vaulting up the list of my most hated players. He's a pest.
  21. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) Tomlin has very good stuff tonight, too. He's painting the black very well.
  22. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 24, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) Avi 2 for his last 17 (2 singles), with 0 walks and 6 strikeouts, quietly hitting below league average once again (97 wRC+) He was doing well because he was putting the ball in the air. He stopped doing that. He has a 75% groundball rate the past couple weeks.
