Gonzalez already took his last start. Wish we now would have skipped him entirely. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) He falls behind and he is in a lot of trouble. If he gets ahead, he will be fine, but he hasn't been able to do it this season. According to Statcast the average exit velocity against Danks last year was well below average. It made me optimistic for this year, but everyone is hitting him hard. -

I've been a Danks defender but yeah he looks horrible. Way different than the 2nd half last year. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) I thought Danks was pitching on Friday? Hmmm...well, this is a game that our "win expectation" is probably about 25% despite the winning streak. I guess the worst thing to happen is burning through the bullpen, but, as mentioned, there might be a rainout or two for recovery. 25%? Tyler Wilson is really no better than Danks. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) I'd love if they got demolished in interleague play. Eh, considering we may have to fight for a wildcard spot this year, it's probably better if the AL West teams lose to them, even if the division does look pretty mediocre to this point.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 09:15 AM) The pitcher fWAR leaderboard over the last calendar year. AL goes Sale, Price, Keuchel, Quintana. Quintana is 6th among SP in fWAR over the past year, and 7th among SP in ERA over the past year, so whether FIP or ERA is your thing, Quintana has been a top 10 pitcher in the game over the past year.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) The Padres didnt seem to be tanking when they signed all those players in the 14-15 offseason.....but then we all saw what they wanted to do all along by getting those players. Nah the Padres might not be trying this year, but they definitely went for it last year. You don't take on Kemp's contract and trade away guys like Trea Turner if you're planning on tanking.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) Just saw this article by Bernstein and couldn't agree more with the first few paragraphs: http://sports.cbslocal.com/2016/04/27/bad-...aseball-season/ I wouldn't say the Rockies are tanking. Their moves this past offseason made no sense at all if that was their goal.

Over their last 162 games the Astros are 78-84.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) 14 of their 20 games have been played against the three worst pitching staffs in baseball (ERA wise). The Cardinals and their solid starting pitching held them down. It's truly astonishing how bad some of these NL teams are. The Brewers have 3 legit major leaguers in their every day lineup. The Reds have 2 starting pitchers out of their 5 that should be in the majors, and they have the worst bullpen I've ever seen. A well-rounded team like the Cubs will just murder these weak teams. Couldn't you argue that the Cubs are a big reason why those pitching staffs have those ERAs? Particularly the Reds. Also, it's amazing that Arrieta has had s*** command his last two outings and still doesn't give up any runs.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) Adam dunn would be a huge help, actually. Yeah I'd take 2012-2014 Adam Dunn at this point.

I can't think of a skill that wouldn't be prone to slumps from time to time. It's difficult to be consistently excellent at anything. But defense does seem to be more consistent than offense, which is good news.

It's not like Tyler Wilson is Clayton Kershaw, let's just pound him. -

I never imagined the numbers would still look similar 8 days later. And that's with facing the Jays and Rangers over that period. Our pitchers have also lost 40 strikes, the most in baseball, and have a 2.24 ERA. That's crazy. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-most-an...s-strike-zones/

We're now not only ahead of them in the standings, but in runs per game as well. They've also been one of the worst teams in the league with RISP this year, so hopefully this is a sign that their sequencing voodoo magic BS of the past two years is over.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) So we're just going to concede every game Danks pitches? We do know that Danks was good in a lot more of his starts than he was bad in last year, right? He gave up 3 runs or fewer in almost 70% of his starts last year. But people act like he gives up 8 runs every time out. -
So let's talk about the real change this year...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 09:59 PM) Also, as many writers have started to pick up on...."pitch framing" can quickly be turned from an advantage to a disadvantage in the sense that umpires (who are very sensitive about being "tricked" by catchers into calling strikes that should have been balls on pitch trax) have started to really notice and study these numbers, and so many of the more famous ones (it started with Russell Martin, then Cervelli in PITT) are actually getting hosed in an effort to correct or over-correct for this particular statistic. It's all balancing out and no longer the "difference maker" it might have been considered 2-3 years ago because EVERYONE is aware by now, especially the umps. I'm a still a bit skeptical of the stat anyway, because it ignores the role umps and pitchers play. Do you think Maddux got all those strike calls because his catcher framed them for him? -
So Sale is 8th on the team with his 1.66 ERA? What a scrub.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) 3 of our 6 losses have come in his starts. We've lost every time we takes the mound. We won 43% of his starts last year even with that dreadful offense. He's due for a win. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 07:53 PM) Starting tonight after a slight rain delay. My DraftKings lineups are rooting for him. 5 runs and pulled after just 4 innings. Sorry.

Quintana has a 1.49 ERA over his last 10 starts with 61 Ks and 15 BB over 66.2 innings. Awesome.

Haha Jays fan on their board just said he'd "seriously consider" trading Bautista for Eaton 1-1. No s*** you would...
