They're doing what they're supposed to do. And outside of Fowler/Montero, their entire offense is underachieving - for now.
I am not saying their offense is underachieving...maybe it is, or maybe it isn't. Some of their players may be having a sophomore slump. After all, they are still young.
And maybe, just maybe, the back-end of their rotation is overachieving? Let's face it, any way you cut it, the majority of NL lineups are pretty bad. Hammel is a perfect example. After his trade to Oakland, he got massacred in the AL. Then, he returns to the NL and is dominant? It doesn't make any sense other than he can only handle the hacks in the NL.
I am NOT saying the Cubs aren't a good team. But, put them in the AL and they wouldn't have such a breeze. Better pitching, better hitting, and stronger overall teams in the AL. There is no doubt about it.
