You can't have disappointments if you don't have expectations. Same for the White Sox.

The White Sox made two blunders regarding the broadcast booth. The first was obvious: Hiring Schriffen. The second was keeping fan-hating Steve Stone for another year. It doesn't get any worse than this.
-
I don't know anything about these four players, but all I've heard is that this is a good trade. Also, I think Getz is doing the best he can under the circumstances. But the fact remains this is a last place team and will remain so for a while.

This quote is significant. It just demonstrates that any threat to move made by the White Sox can be ignored. So, no new stadium unless the Sox pay for it.

The 2024 Bears are like the 2024 White Sox: Not watchable.

Looking at Allen's career stats, one can make the case he's not a Hall of Famer. But if you actually saw him play, you would say different. As I have said before, you haven't seen a home run until you see a Dick Allen home run.
-
The most talented player to put on a White Sox uniform. Dick Allen could do it all and do it better than anyone else.

Many people fell asleep listening to Bob Elson. I remember watching Chanel 32. They had a hard time following the flight of the ball. They'd show the center fielder when the left fielder was making the catch. Otherwise, Comiskey Park was empty and the Sox were getting their ass kicked on a regular basis. Brings tears to my eyes. Ah, the memories.

Bears offensive game plan: Get in third and long situation. Get QB sacked. Then, of course, punt. Go to the bench and watch your defense let opposition run up the score. At post-game press conference, have coach look and act stupid. End up last in division.

Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
Highland replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is not my point. If the Sox actually had some talent on this team, Cease and Crochet at the top of the rotation would be a real weapon. But the Sox don't want to pay either one. And if a franchise doesn't pay for real talent, it never becomes a winner. Trading for prospects gets old. Some prospects never pan out. Some do well but take a long time to develop. Every time the Sox get someone half-way decent, there is a speculation about flipping him. Well, the Sox flipped people last year, and they lost 121 games. A fan can't expect this team to be turned around in one season. But if the club doesn't spend some money to get some talent to make the team a little better, there is no reason to go out to the ballpark to watch what is essentially a minor league team. To hell with rebuilding and trading for prospects. If a franchise isn't willing to keep talent like Cease and Crochet, it isn't serious about winning and it will be rebuilding forever. This team is years away from even being a .500 team. It may never be a .500 team. I could care less about prospects that may never be quality major league players. Meanwhile, we have another 100-loss season to look forward to. -
Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread

Think about this: Cease and Crochet at the top of the White Sox rotation. -
Thanks for interest, but it is out of print. Melton gave me a great interview. Talked about when he won the HR championship on the last day of the 1971 season. Didn't even remember when he hit a home run in each game of an opening day double header in that same year. Was also gracious to fans at Sox Fest. He will be missed. Have a book on the 2005 team coming out in the spring.

Great guy. Provided a lot of great memories. I remember many of his upper deck home runs and his great opening day of 1971. Interviewed him for a book I was doing in 2000. Very open and honest. One of my all time favorite Sox players. Sad day but the memories are great. Will always remember him.

Looks like a repeat of last offseason and more loss of credibility. Is this a major league franchise?

Dumb idea. Dumb, dumb, dumb. -
Huge signing by Getz to kickoff the pre-meeting dealings...

Andrew Benintendi on the trade market (duh)
Highland replied to Harold's Leg Lift's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I doubt the shareholders care all that much. The Sox have been on the downslide since winning the WS. in 2013, when the team was on its way to its worst season in over 40 years, board members were saying "let Jerry handle things." Well, he is still handling things and another 100-loss season is coming. -
In essence, the Sox have been rebuilding since winning the division in 08. Tried a number of things and they haven't worked. The most frustrating thing about the rebuild is they actually picked up some real young talent, but things still didn't work out. I don't have any idea what their strategy is now other than slashing the payroll.
-
I do think Getz is attempting to bring good baseball men into the organization. But if a team is going to truly contend, it can't stay in the rebuild mode forever. And that is the problem. JR doesn't want to spend on free agents and there is nothing Getz can do about that. I don't know what the plans are for this off season, but this team, as of now, of on its way to another awful season.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Highland replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox are not getting much for Robert right now, and they certainly won't get anything close to a "haul." Trading him for prospects? Really? You don't have a major league roster now. To hell with prospects already. A lot of them end up stinking up the place anyway. Screw the prospects. -
Sox Fest used to be a good event. This is a joke.
-
Rushing a player to the big leagues is something that the Sox have done for years. Hasn't worked. Glad the player has ambition, but he has to prove he is ready.
-
Looks like another 120-loss season.

Jerry Reinsdorf open to selling the White Sox per Britt Ghiroli
Highland replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe the Sox would have a deeper fan base if the actually tried to build one. And Cub fans? They're idiots. -
Jerry Reinsdorf open to selling the White Sox per Britt Ghiroli
Highland replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What Dick Allen said and then some. Right now, all JR cares about is a new stadium and his new TV network. Building a winning team? Not so much. And all this nonsense about "being open to selling"? That was nothing but crap. When will the team be a contender? No one knows and that includes the White Sox. Fans are being scammed as always. What a joke.
