Kopech to the bullpen, Urena starting Saturday.
Highland replied to Lip Man 1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They went beyond saying he was their top prosect. They had him walking on water. In addition, when he first came up, he even had worse command than he does now. His fast ball was over the place, and he nearly took a couple guys' heads off. When he did get his fast ball over, it was knocked well into the seats. Then he needs Tommy John surgery after pitching in the major leagues for a month. Forget your lol. I stand by what I earlier stated. Putting unrealistic expectations on a young player isn't wise. In the end, Kopech has never lived up to the hype. And he never will. -

The team was making him out to be a superstar before he threw one major league pitch. Yes, he had a great arm. But there are pitchers and then there are throwers. In the beginning, Kopech was still a thrower. Of course, this was done because of the tank job and the Sox needed the fans to get excited about. Let the guy learn how to pitch first. Then he can be labeled as a super star. Hard throwers like Kopech are frequently as they develop. Look at what happened to Kerry Wood. -

How long has these two teams been bad? How long will they be bad? -

The Kopech situation has been mishandled from day one. Might as well keep him for now because the staff is so depleted. He can't be expected to be part of the rotation next year. -
Good effort tonight. I hope Vaughn can turn into the good hitter said he was. The last two homers were impressive. Nervous any time any Sox reliever comes into the game.
-
Face it, The Cubs are in, one way or the another.
-
The Sox never took Thomas's injuries seriously. They didn't in 1999. They didn't in 2001. More mismanagement.
-
They have to know it, because we fans know it. We needed change and got the same old thing. On owner set in his ways and in complete denial. Meanwhile, Cease continues to implode as does Kopech. Does this team even have a rotation?

Think about it. If you're with another team, who, besides Robert, would you want from the White Sox? Maybe Anderson if you think a change of scene could help him. But, as of this moment, I would not want any other player on the Sox roster. What could the Sox possibly offer in a trade? Really, no one. Hey, Chris, are you sure you want this job?

Whatever the 2023 White Sox lose, the 1970 team was better.

When I first fell asleep, it was 1-0. When I awoke it was 5-0. Nodded off again, and it was 9-0, then 12-0. Then turned the TV off.

It was a historically bad ten days. Almost everything the Sox did only ruined the organization's credibility. Now Stone, Ozzie, and Kasper are doing everything they can to put a positive spin on things. Instead, the team gets swept at home by a Sub .500 team, and the manager benches a player because he doesn't run when he hit a pop-up and didn't know where it was at. This is as bad as things get, and I don't see improvement any time soon. Now that Getz has the job, he deserves a chance, but I don't know if he is up to it. Especially under these circumstances.

Yes, I can hardly wait for what Chris Getz will do. Even Ozzie says so. -

I agree with everyone else. There is no reason for Kopech to start another game this season. Probably not next season as well. His falling off the mound wind-up is awful. I realize the Tigers are not as bad as usual, but they shouldn't sweep anyone in their home ballpark. This season can't end fast enough. -
One thing Reinsdorf has been good at is hiring people of color in key positions. His biggest problem is that he wants to hire people who he likes because they make him feel comfortable. So, the Sox get people like Getz and Ventura. And this is one reason why the Sox have been to the World Series only once during Reinsdorf's tenure.

In any other corporate situation, there would be a move to oust JR as CEO. But in this case, no one is in a position to challenge him. The staff has to know the ship is sinking but they can't or won't do anything about it.

Saturday night baseball gamethread...anyone?? Detroit @ Sox
Highland replied to wegner's topic in 2023 Season in Review
I guess the Chris Getz hiring isn't a motivational tool. This is a 100-loss team whether they lose 100 or not. Just make sure that those anti-Reinsdorf banners get taken down. That is a priority. What's his face in the TV booth talked about a good crowd. Is he delusional or does he think we're stupid? Oh, Stoney. Can you shut up? Just shut up? -
Even if one could make the case that LaRussa did a good job, the decision to bring him back was a stupid one. Typical JR. Don't really consider anyone else and then hire a crony for some dumb reason. Maybe Getz will do a good job in the end, but the same dynamic was there. So, it's not shocking that things never seem to change. Because they haven't.
-
Acting like bullies won't change the way fans feel right now. The team is failing on the field and JR is thinking of a new stadium. It might be a good idea to do something real this off season. Regardless, the sentiment won't change no matter if signs are taken away or not. Franchise keeps hitting new lows.
-
Looks like the Cubs are going to the playoffs one way or another. The Sox are going home and most of them are already there. So much for taking over the city.
-
If JR is so concerned about "losing a season," he should have done something decisive back in April. The team was 7-21 and obviously going nowhere. But he sat on his hands like he always does. The truth is he doesn't want anyone from the outside looking at and evaluating his team. He'd have to face up to the simple fact that his way doesn't work and really never has. Perhaps Getz will do a good job, but he has JR to answer to. Things look bleak.
-
The timing of this is supposed to show that this was Getz's call, and that he has some independence. Instead, it looks like he is taking JR's orders on this. This is not a great start. This is just another indication that this is a bad hire.
-
The issue I had with the LaRussa is that it was handed over to a crony with little or no thought. That's how we got Harrelson as GM, then Bevington, Ventura and Grifol as managers. This is how we get Getz now.
-
If this was supposed to be funny, it's not. I saw the McConnell news conferences. I am no fan of his, but I felt sorry for him. Age catches up with all of us in debilitating ways. Another JR attempt at humor that failed.

Really, there's not much left for Sox fans. This season has been one of the worst, and nothing we say or do will have any influence. The team really needed a good baseball man from outside the organization, but instead the same old thing happened. What's left for me? No expectations.
