  1. I think this is the most significant offseason. The Sox already have a pissed off fan base, and if the team does little, the tank and rebuild will look like a big con. Starting with LaRussa, this FO has lost a tone of credibility. Saying they tried but couldn't pull the trigger on trades won't cut it.
  2. To me, Sale had anger management problems that he sometimes brought to the mound with him. This trade was, and is, still fine with me. As with White Flag Trade, the tank showed again that the Sox failed to develop young players, and that is one reason they had to trade for young players on other teams. If the team doesn't want to spend mega bucks on free agents, they have to spend it on developing a farm system and building from within. Are they doing that?
  3. You may have a point. He went six weeks without hitting a homer. There is no way I would have ever re-signed him. They didn't draft Vaughn so high so play him out of position.
  4. Jose was great but it was time for him to go. Maybe that short porch in Houston will help him, but otherwise, I think his best years were behind him, and it is time to get Vaughn out of the outfield. Still, he was a real pro, and he'll be missed by fans and players alike.
  5. One of my lasting memories of 2022 is Lynn limping around the infield during his last start. Couldn't over to first to get a throw. Still has his stuff, but I wonder about his knees.
  6. Justin Fields can score from anywhere on the field. The Bears have never had a quarterback close to that. Watching the losing is tough but Fields is at least entertaining. The team finally has a quarterback after decades of assholes.
  7. Right now, I can't imagine any team that would have significant interest in anyone on the Sox roster except for Cease and the Sox are not going to deal him. To me, saying the team will be improved with trades is saying the franchise doesn't want to spend money in the free agent market. Unless Hahn does some creative things, I don't have much hope for this off season.
  8. The team was already in place, and the division was weak. Even LaRussa couldn't blow that one. I have few expectations of this organization. I think it needs to prove itself, and I have bid doubts about that.
  9. The image of the White Sox organization has taken a beating the past few months. Money is always the main motivator, but players still like the idea of being on a winning team. It will be up to the FO to convince the players and the fans that the team is serious about turning things around. The hiring of the manager went okay; at least the team tried to give an appearance of a detailed search, and no ex-Sox player was hired. But the Pollock thing was not good.
  10. I don't know how much the FO realizes how much their credibility is at stake right now. I don't expect them to spend gobs of money, but this has to be an active offseason. Another disappointing season in 2023 will result in fans labeling the rebuild a failure if they haven't already. Denial and blaming the fans will not work.
  11. I don't know anything about Anderson's personal life, but he just didn't look like the same guy. His average was okay, but he wasn't providing the spark he did in other years. A malaise seemed to surround this team. New manager has a real challenge in front of him.
  12. Very interesting piece. Shows that things are as bad as we imagined. I do think major changes have to come this off season. If they can get something valuable, they should trade Anderson. They can't be afraid of making changes or bold moves. Just hoping players will come back healthy and perform won't work. The only thing I disagree with is that one person was acting as if things just went south the last two years. This team has done very little since 2008. At least they made an effort in recruiitng a managter. Now they need to do much more.
  13. The Ozzie thing has to stop. There is no reason to think he is one of the answers to this team. Some people say that Ozzie can't be controlled. No, he can't control himself, and the team doesn't need that right now. At this point, this franchise needs credibility. One way to gain that credibility is to not hire Ozzie. It would be the same mistake all over again and would convince me the team would be going nowhere. 2005 happened 17 years ago and is now becoming a distant memory. Time to move on for god's sake.
  14. I do think it is ridiculous that a player Eloy's age cannot play in the field. That he would be the full-time DH would limit the flexibility of that position. I know he got hurt playing left, but he also got hurt running to first.
  15. Can't be real. Konerko has showed no interest in being connected with MLB since he retired. Loved the guy as a player. Don't want him near the team as a manager. Besides, neither he or his fans need his legacy stained like Ventura's.
  16. Greg - You must stop this. You must really stop this.
  17. From the start, JR has been a terrible communicator. He blamed things on the media, but that was nonsense. As time has gone on, he has become more and more reclusive. That does little to instill confidence in the organization as a whole. The Sox need a competent spokesman to talk to the fans and not just at SoxFest. But I don't think they know how to communicate with their own fan base because they have never understood their own fan base.
  18. If there was a year to have SoxFest, 2023 would be the year. Yes, they would take some heat, but this would be a time to regain at least gain some trust with the fan base. In addition, a good off-season would help too. But if they are not going to have SoxFest, they could do one other thing: tell Steve Stone to shut up.
  19. Any kind of so-called cancel culture has nothing to do with Ozzie. If he had said those things about Castro when he was manager of the White Sox, the controversy would have faded in time. But he said them in Miami, and the political situation there is drastically different. There was the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Professional politicians watch what they say in Southern Florida. Ozzie got in over his head because of his big mouth. There was the bad way he left the Sox, and the Marlins couldn't get rid of him fast enough. Don't forget his dumb sons. Ozzie forgot it is the team that matters, not his ego. He was not a victim. He did this to himself. Plus he was a lousy manager the last year he was with the Sox. Enough of Ozzie already.
  20. After their Super Bowl win, the Bears drafted a running back. They knew Walter Payton didn't have much time left, and they thought ahead. The Abreau is almost the same. Jose doesn't have many years left and the Sox have to act. This is nothing against Abreau. It is just the normal cycle of a team turning to a younger player.
  21. At this point, I have no intention of attending any games next season. The FO will have to do a lot to change my mind.
  22. Let's hope Ozzie isn't coming back. Yes, it is really time to move on.
  23. Exactly. After the injury to his hand, Robert should not have been in the lineup. He couldn't even hold onto the bat. This is when the macho stuff about playing hurt just doesn't make sense. I don't care how tough a player is, the human body will only let a person do so much. Then it begins to break down. Every time I saw him swing with one hand, I wondered what the White Sox were thinking. The guy just wasn't hurt, he was injured. I swear I have never seen something so stupid. But this is the White Sox. But remember this: it's the fans' fault. Just ask the baseball genius Stoney.
  24. Beckham may get better as time goes on; he's still new at this. But he does go on and on and has to learn to be more short-winded. I don't care how much Stone knows. I wish he would go away.
  25. I am like the White Sox. I have no 2023 plan.
