  1. Sheets is not a major league hitter. I doubt that he will ever become one. It's too bad because he can put a charge into the ball at times.
  2. There are things to be positive about and Mendick and Burger have played well. And the injured will be returning although I have some doubts about Eloy and Lynn. Benneti made a valid point during a broadcast. If the Sox offense is going to produce, Grandal and Moncada have to contribute. I would hope they would since I can't see them putting up Adam Dunn type numbers for the whole year. It was good to see Grandal deliver with 3 RBIs against Texas. Moncada got a hit right-handed and maybe he should stop switch hitting? Perhaps Grandal should stop looking for walks? How about swinging at the first pitch a few times? But then again, there are the games when the Sox regress into some ugly stuff. Do that less and I'll feel better.
  3. When LaRussa finally leaves, I hope the replacement is someone who has no prior association with the White Sox. Regardless, I no longer think the Sox are the favorites to win the AL Central.
  4. Right now I have little faith in this organization. Two reasons they are still in it are the bad division and the diluted playoff system. I don't think this team will live up to the expectations of the rebuild in the long run. Too many things are going wrong and will continue to go wrong.
  5. I will be pleasantly shocked if JR takes any decisive action regarding this team. I don't think he cares about this team anymore.
  6. Announcers saying the White Sox came back. No, the Dodgers bullpen let them back in, and they still left runners on base. Grandal needs to sit.
  7. I read somewhere that Konerko was working with an outside hitting instructor and tried a new approach. Apparently, he and the Sox were willing to go through an extended bad period until things worked out. Look at when he his WS grand slam. He did a little something with his arm before the pitch arrived.
  8. I know that Garcia is a sore point right now for many reasons, but he is really the least of the team's problems. Robert has great talent, but he isn't being a real impact right now. Perhaps putting him in the leading off spot would help. He can steal bases and thus put pressure on the defense. And maybe he will see some better pitches in that spot. I am hoping he will develop into the great player he should be. But he is underperforming right now. I wonder if Eloy is worse off physically than we think. He should be a great offensive threat, but I think he's hit a little wall. He's going to need some ABs to get into the swing of things. I don't know what to say about Moncada at the moment. These three are key elements to the rebuild. Yes, giving Garcia three years was dumb, but there are bigger problems. If these three recover and even get close to what they can do, the Sox will look like a different team. It just hasn't happened yet.
  9. There is a condescending headline in the Tribune telling Sox fans to "deal with it" when it comes to LaRussa. I didn't read the story; the headline was bad enough. Yes, we know LaRussa isn't going anywhere. We just don't like it. We are already dealing with it.
  10. I feel that way too as I am in my late 60's. I really thought the Sox would put a string of great seasons together after 2005. Didn't happen. Still, it is my opinion that the Konerko grand slam in game two is the greatest moment in franchise history. And Konerko was one of the most popular players in franchise history. Konerko was one of the reasons I came to the ball park. My favorite Sox player of all time.
  11. Sale was an enormous talent with some big emotional issues. Hopefully Moncada will recover from his health issues and get his act together. Maybe the Sox could have done better, but I wouldn't lose sleep over this trade. Has Sale cut up any Red Sox uniforms?
  12. Who knew that Jake Burger would help turn this team around some? Things had looked so bad in Toronto.
  13. How many pitches to get 2 saves? About 20? Liam looks so different. Like everything is so easy.
  14. I agree on both points especially Grandal. I realize you have to play a slumping player until he comes out of it. But we're almost a third into the season, and I'm sick of seeing Grandal's terrible at-bats. This guy should be able to get his average up to .200 for god's sake.
  15. Nice win and a clutch bomb from Burger. However, because of continued high pitch counts, Cease is beginning to look like a five-inning pitcher. The 8th inning was nerve-wracking, but the bullpen did a good job.
  16. The Trumps will do to the Sox what they did to the country: Run the team into the ground.
  17. Making the playoffs is always better than sitting things out in October. But the Sox record in the post season other than in 2005, is 6-18 and they have lost every series. And losing 10-1 in an elimination game truly sucks. And losing in an elimination game because you can't score one run in the regulation nine innings sucks, too. If the Sox do make the post-season this year, I hope we don't experience shit like this.
  18. I've been a Sox fan for a hell of a long time and have seen many low points with this team. This is one of the lowest, maybe the lowest in the last 50 years. I don't think that much can be done in the short term. Trades are hard to make even under the best circumstances, and right now the team has little leverage. You can only hope that injured players play well when they return. The current disappointment of this team is symbolic of the how it is run. Starting with the insane way of hiring a manager, things are done in the same old way. I have little faith in things getting better. Most other teams would have fired the manager by now. That doesn't solve everything by a long shot, but sometimes change like this sometimes is a catalyst for other things. But then again, most other teams would never have hired LaRussa in the first place. Instead, they would have done a wide search for an important hire like this. The White Sox did nothing like that. They chose to hire a pal. I don't know if anyone in the organization sees how bad things are now. If the Sox finish under .500, you are going to alienate an already diminishing fan base. But maybe they don't care about that.
  19. More importantly, where is Jerry Reinsdorf? For a long time, he has refused to do interviews because he doesn't trust the press. Instead, he had Hawk and Farmer be his spokesmen. Who is his spokesman now? Stone? I wouldn't expect much from a JR interview. But perhaps he could do a little segment with Chuck Garfien and take some softball questions. All I would want to see is a lucid man who can still think clearly and was not letting old age impair him. Right now, being reclusive just feeds imaginations, and that is not good. I really don't care if KW or Hahn talk to the media. They will just give the company line. Actions mean more, and I am wondering what can be done to right this ship. However, if the Sox go on to have a truly disappointing season, the FO will have to answer for it one way or another. One result may be a nearly empty stadium.
  20. In the first, Grandal took a 3-2 pitch for strike three with the bases loaded. Now, the pitch was a slider and he may have been looking for a fast ball. But he fumed about the call. Fact remains it was close enough for him to take a swing at in that situation. Is there any reason an ump should give the benefit of the doubt to a hitter with an average under .200? Grandal should have been looking to make a big play. Instead, he looked for a walk. He has hit one homer since the opening series against the Tigers. He is contributing nothing right now.
  21. I agree with this. The White Sox would be a good investment for someone who has some real ambition. The stadium is over 30 years old but is in good shape. And there are ways to build a deeper and wider fan base. It just hasn't been done recently.
  22. I honestly don't know what is going on with Moncada. I also have the feeling LaRussa doesn't, either. This is a complete mess as is the rest of the team. The FO needs to step in and do something. This franchise is losing credibility.
  23. The Moncada situation is weird. During the KC series, he still looked like he was hurting and hit like it. Regardless, if he is healthy now, he belongs on the field. One thing for sure: he has contributed very little and doesn't look like the star he was projected to be.
