3/5 - Home vs. Pads (Giolito) / Away vs. Cleveland (Cease!!!)
wegner replied to bmags's topic in 2019 Season in Review
Did I read gameday correctly that Castillo had 2 throwing errors to let runners score in the same inning? Wasn't he another friend of Manny that was brought in? -
Ok, I need to get something out that popped into my head while driving around today and this seems to be the best place to post it. When the White Sox went after Luis Robert they did what they had to do to pay what was necessary to land him. I commend them for that, Robert is a true multi tool player who could be phenomenal. The thing is he is a young international player, players who will always have an inherent risk of turning into not much at all. Look at all the detractors on Moncada and he was somewhat seen as a can't miss player (For the record, I do think Moncada will have a nice career but I digress). The Sox were willing to invest in Robert as well as paying extra with the penalty...but they are not willing to pay the going rate for 26 year old top free agents, one of which is an absolute marketable superstar who could change the face of the ballclub? I am sorry, I just do not understand that. Oh, and once again...Kenny just shut up!!!
-
Yes he did have a very nice career. That was one of those trades that was actually future value for future value. You do not see those too often these days...someone usually ends up on the wrong side of the deal.
-
And the guy we traded Cameron for had a hell of a career for the Sox...Paul Konerko
-
When Castillo is your clean up hitter, that is not a daunting lineup...Yes, Yes I know I won't go there about who is leading off
-
I voted Hahn and JR...JR because he just will not spend the kind of money necessary to sign the top free agent talents...Hahn because he made it look like Jerry would pay the amount necessary with his unprecedented financial flexibility talk.
-
Voted same as I always have. Listen some on the radio, watch alot of games, watch some post game, listen to White Sox weekly, go to some games...it's a sickness I think. For crying out loud, I've found myself following and posting on spring training game threads!!

KW: "It's a shame" the Sox are being portrayed as cheap

Kenny, what is the slogan going into this year? "hmm...Your 2019 White Sox, eh the bullpen should be pretty good...we hope" -

Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress indeed. -
Ah, the true scheme is revealed...I have figured it out...Rick Hahn is one of the admins here..."Now how can I drive up the post counts and pull some in some of those long time lurkers?"...Damnit Rick, you pulled me in!!!
-
Great to hear the confidence, Ray. It does seem that we have some nice starting pitching depth in the minors. What do I know?...I actually think that Carson Fullmer is going to be an important part of our bullpen in a year or two ?
-
Does it kill the rebuild if Giolito is not a top of the rotation starter? In my humble opinion, no. But if he is not at least a capable #4 who can eat up innings, it sure does not help especially if Dunning is not the pitcher I thought he might be.

I've been saying the following ever since shortly after the Machado signing...Just shut up Kenny!!! -
Haha, I opened this up after reading the header very quickly. I thought it said his latest tweets. I wondered if he said something controversial?

Thanks Greg. I am very happy to have this site as a refuge for those diehard fans you spoke about. Your theory seems dead on to me, unfortunately. I personally would have loved to see Harper in that lineup. I always thought just give him an opt out after 4 years. They do have the money to spend now and I am sure he would take the opt out so we would have a marketable superstar while we are rebuilding and hopefully for a couple of years of contention. But alas, it was not meant to be. Still puzzled about Alonso and Jay though. That friends and family plan was pretty boneheaded.

It's like bargain shopping at Tiffany's. What's the point. "Got anything for $25?" "We can sell you a blue box then you can put the necklace you purchased from JC Penneys in there"
-
Not gonna help the walk up sales. What are they gonna get, like 20 a game? 50 on free tshirt Thursdays?
-
Why didn't they just say this was not the time to spend or something like that when free agency started. If they wanted to work under the radar then fine. Did they really think just being at the table was going to satisfy Sox fans? And that unprecedented financial flexibility nonsense was clearly just bullshit!!
-
To not realize that both of these guys were going to be signing for over $300 million is baffling to me. Almost everyone on this board knew this but Hahn and company did not? Did they go to Jerry and say the price is going to be over $300 million and he said "Inconceivable!!"
-
Bravo, well said!!
-
Can you opt out after 4 games with that 10 game plan? I might give that type of package a try.
-
Will the new Sox excuse be that they do not sign anyone to that long of a contract without an opt out?
-
10%!!!!!! The last time I checked in someone was saying 1%. That's tremendous news, thanks.
