Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi
COACH612 replied to shysocks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I haven't had soda/pop in over 2 years so I don't care what they serve anywhere. However, I wish they would get rid of the Miller products. They taste lousy. -
Getting Swisher would be the same as signing Adam Dunn again. Either way, performance sucked.
-
Sorry guys, but I am looking forward to not hearing Hawk anymore.
-
LaRoche retiring is great news but I had an over/under on the number of K's. I guess that's gone now.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 07:19 AM) My ideal scenario would be to sign Morneau as the DH and backup 1st baseman, and then have Melky in LF, Jackson in CF, and Eaton in RF. Avi could then be the backup DH and 4th outfielder. When Avi plays in the field, shift Eaton to center and put Jackson on the bench as a defensive replacement. When Morneau sits against lefties, let Avi DH in those games. Seems simple enough. Eaton does not have the arm for RF

Ozzie is managing the Venzuela team. Does anyone think this is a move to get him back on the Sox when Ventura is fired/contract not renewed at the end of this season?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) The stadium is pretty easily accessible from the burbs at its current location to be honest. Not for me. I live in the NW suburbs and it takes me 2 hours each way. That's why I don't go to too many games. It's an all day affair.

Two words why we won't win the division. Ventura and LaRoche.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 04:26 AM) so which is it? the team or the park? not so much on the location but why pay good money to see crappy baseball when I can see the same game at home for free? -

oh yea right. How about just 1 block south east on the other side of the church. That's very affluent. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) That has described the Cubs product for a good portion of their attendance dominance. So apparently, playing well has nothing to do with it. Ricketts actually said something interesting last week. He said the Cubs neighborhood was actually pretty s***ty for a lot of their fans. He said it was great for meeting your college buddies and going to a game, but that was about it. He has a point. What is in that neighborhood for kids? They don't have the kids' days and family days like the White Sox do. If anything, it shows getting to the younger generation as quickly as possible doesn't really mean much. Ricketts is right but the outside the park stuff is fun even at my 53 years. What's outside the Cell? Project housing. -

IMO, a huge factor is the location. Nothing to do after the game. Don't want to be around there after dark. Also, who wants to pay good money to see a lousy team who can't run the bases properly, move runners over, get runners in, or even score runs. I will not spend my hard earned money on any inferior product. Bottom line. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 12:06 AM) I recall one time he slammed his helmet down and it accidentally hit an ump but other than that I have no clue. I haven't seen anything that I can recall. At least Lawrie shows signs of life as compared to Ventura.
-
This is a way for Renteria to get familiar with the Sox when (not if) Ventura gets fired.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) FA classes seem to suck every year. Yet the good teams make solid additions. We need to go out and be aggressive again. My number one goal for this offseason is protection for Abreu. Need a bat behind him. I 100% agree. Unless the Sox can get better hitting, especially situational hitting, all the best starting pitching in the world doesn't mean anything.

State of the White Sox Address a Position

The way the front office has been working for a few years I would not be surprised if they signed another aging veteran like Jose Conseco again. -

I am a big believer that starting pitching gets you to the playoffs and the bullpen gets you through the playoffs. Why? Starting pitchers get tired in Sept. That being said, the Sox have a very good starting rotation but as someone already said, they need an effective righty plus a more reliable bullpen. However, without a much better offense, all the best starting pitching in the world will not win games. The Sox offense has been really bad for a few years now. Look at Q's number of no decisions. I hate to trade quality starters but without offensive help, none of it matters anyways. Look at the bottom half of the order. It sucked beyond belief. I am not saying go out and get a power bat like the busts they got in Dunn and LaRoche, but perhaps someone who can actually put the ball in play hard. Just my opinion. -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Is there something wrong with Thompson in RF? Or is that too much outfield defense? How is Thompson's arm to play RF? I have never seen him throw long yet.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 26, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) There have been a lot of media saying Schwarber isn't really a bad OF. From what I have seen, he makes Viciedo look pretty good with the glove. My nephew who is 5 plays better outfield than Viciedo. Picks better daisies also.
-
So far, from what I have seen of Baez, I am not impressed with him. His glove may be good, but his plate discipline is not. When I saw him last year he would always swing for the fences even with look strikes. I figured during this past off season, the coaches might improve his bat and shorten his swing. Guess what? They didn't. He still swings way too hard even with 2 strikes. Unless some coach can get into his head and improve his swing, his bat will be more of a liability and the Sox have way too many already.
-
I knew someone was ejected, I did not know it was Buehrle. If he retires, it gives him something to laugh about forever.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) At least last night, I agree. Forget the box, just look at the dots, and a lot of his calls don't make sense. Agreed
-
I don't know whether TBS's zone is accurate or not. From what I saw, the calls were bad. Not really bad though. Just to mention when Lackey was pitching and the K-Zone showed 2 pitches in the exact same spot and one called a ball and one a strike, you know the ump stinks.
-
I have only watched the Cubs-Carddnals series. I have seen so many bad calls for strikes clearly out of the zone. Anyone see the other games to comment?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) This isn't highsight. If you have two players who play the same position, and you want to DH one of them, the person who DH's would ALWAYS be the worst defender, unless you are trying to get someone a day of rest off of the field or something like that. In this case, Shuck is a much better defender than Melky or Avi, so one of those guys would be DH, and Shuck would be in the field. Shuck is a better defender than either Melky or Avi. But my whole point was to keep LaRoche out of the lineup completely. With him in, it's like have 8 in the lineup. But Shuck only played OF occasionally (96 games) and hit in 79 games. Ventura and Co. has to manage with the roster they have. So, as you said, put Shuck in and have Melky DH just as long as LaRoche gets splinters in his @@@@ .
