That means nothing. They were also "confident" right before Machado signed with the Padres.

That’s true. The Sox can only control their side of the equation and they could feel confident even if Hendriks doesn’t truly feel that way. They are also dealing with the same agent but it’s time to put the Machado stuff to rest. I would hope they learned their lesson from Machado. They went in hot with offers for Grandal, Keuchel and Wheeler (who may be the only professional athlete the world that actually left money on the table for geography so I can’t blame them for the outcome). I doubt they are pursuing Hendriks in a way that’s even close to Machado. They reportedly signed Eaton to afford him. They seem to be either completely out on players and vocal about it or in on players and serious about. I think half way pursuits are a thing of the past.

He’s a poster here and says that NSC has good sources. I think all these guys are under the NSC umbrella.

Looked at his Twitter followed by MLB Network, Not Steve, Al’s Beef and Dan Evans. Also says he’s an attorney so I don’t know if he would just go and play insider. That gives them more credibility to me.

Last I heard he seemed to think even he might be too expensive

Jesse Rogers is saying this but even if you remove the food guys and Cishek, everyone who is connected to the Sox (Merkin, Nightengale, the NBC Sports guys and James Fox) say otherwise. They let us know instantly they could not afford Brantley which was pathetic that they did that but have not done so with Hendriks. I’m staying optimistic.

  4. “ They didn’t need to beat out the White Sox this time, to land Snell, the 2018 AL Cy Young winner who is under contract for another three seasons. The South Siders bolstered their starting staff with a deal for Lance Lynn earlier this month. And while it’s indeed nicer to have four frontline pitchers than three, the White Sox seem confident in Dylan Cease and Michael Kopech at the back end of the rotation and that new pitching coach Ethan Katz can get them near the level of Lucas Giolito, Dallas Keuchel and Lynn, three top-seven finishers in the 2020 AL Cy Young vote.”

Lol I guess their second SP acquisition was Ethan Katz working with Cease and Kopech

    Any 1 of:

Julio Teheran (2020 stats after covid.  Like Moncada, will he be fully recovered?)

Taijuan Walker (nice 2020 bounce back from 2019 TJ surgery).  Might be worth taking affordable 3-4 year AAV flyer on him.

    Quintana

Chase Anderson (2020 stats after oblique)

    Garrett Richards

Maybe  2 or 3 year deals for any 1; and/or options.

Each has different AAV; with my limited market value research, possibly anywhere from ~ $3.5 for Walker up to ~ $10 for Richards.  Does that sound reasonable?

Good contract variety depending on Sox plans.

I think those are mostly good options but none are better than Musgrove

Better options in FA as to not lose anyone, including Stiever.  He was the Pirates opening day starter, they'll overvalue him.   I do think we need to add a SP and let our system add the other.

    Who is a better option?
