Frank, appling, jackson, collins. Not sure if jose cracks that group -
Yolmer should be a White Sox for life. A nice long 15 year career being a utility guy and good clubhouse guy

What is your predicted pitching rotation next year?

Where has this idea that JR won’t sign guys with questionable attitudes come from? The guy signed Dennis freaking Rodman for crying out loud. We had Carl headcase everett on our World Series team too. -

Abreu, Robert and Tim have the 3 highest WAR in the AL
ChiSox1917 replied to periphery831's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is that by bWAR? fWAR has rendon and nelson cruz 1&2 -
Benitendi was a 4.5 WAR player in 2018 at 24. Hes been bothered by injuries the last two years but if healthy, hes a much better option than most other right field targets out there. With the exception of springer, theyre all major gambles. baseball trade values weights benitendis value to be equal to collins. Id make that trade straight up

Which Sox player has your vote for MVP so far?

Abreu has just been so clutch at the plate this year -
Its easier to work around mazaras contract just simply ending than unloading joc on a multi year deal if he doesnt work out. Theres also the possibility mazara is still bothered by whatever illness kept him out at the beginning of the year. The guy always had power at the very least with texas. To see that sapped so completely makes me believe he hasnt fully recovered from it. Very hard to judge him in this context this year. I see the argument for joc but dont like it because it takes up more of our payroll and still leaves a hole in right field against lefties that would need to be addressed. Id much rather gamble that mazara bounces back from the illness and enters his prime years as a .900/.700 ops guy against righties/lefties. Ill admit its unlikely, but if he doesnt then we just sign conforto the next offseason.

Theres a big difference though between nomar mazara at 24 years old and $5.5 million a year and a 38 year old at $13 million a year. History shows that most players dont peak until 26-28, while it also shows major drop offs for guys as old as cruz. Maybe mazara peaked early, and maybe cruz really is ageless, but both of those things would be outside the norm.

Edwin hasnt hit a slider all year and thats all hes going to see today from singer. The guy is absolutely toast as a regular everyday player. Hitting him fourth is absolutely infuriating. He should only be a pinch hitter against lefties at this point -
I dont buy that rationale. People didnt want us signing average to above average free agents because 1) we were purposefully tanking to get higher draft picks and their signings wouldnt have made us a playoff team anyway, and 2) because it would potentially block our top prospects from getting more playing time. No one thought yolmer was a long term answer as a starter.

Well shit... guess im rooting for us to lose out then

Yes and ive repeatedly said joc is better. However he is 3 years older than mazara and will cost more than mazara next year and likely require a multi year deal. I have some hope mazara still has some potential left. Joc is what he is at this point. id much rather give mazara the final year of arbitration to figure it out at a lower cost than bringing in another platoon guy (because bringing in another platoon guy means you still need to sign another outfielder too to play when joc sits against lefties). If mazara doesnt figure it out then there are much more attractive outfield free agents in the 2022 class to target such as schwarber, bryant, conforto, castellanos, and if we just want to say screw it to OF defense, soler.

Starting adam engel for 50 games a year isnt what a team that should be shooting for a world series does. Adams had a nice year, but hes outplaying his expected results due to a lot of luck and a small sample size. If they sign joc, theyll then need to sign another platoon right fielder to hit against lefties. Thats two free agents youll need to sign, not just the $10 mil or so for joc.

Joc has had 15% of his career at bats against lefties. Mazara has had 26% of his career at bats against lefties. Both are atrocious at hitting lefties, but the dodgers flexibility allowed them to platoon joc while the rangers continued tossing mazara out there against lefties hurting his overall numbers. joc is better than mazara, but not by much. It makes no sense to sign him when we have mazara who is 3 years younger and still may figure it out. if we’re going to give up on mazara, then we should be going for springer. Who even though hes a righty, hits righties just as well as joc

Edwin batting 4th isnt though. Cant wait to watch him strikeout 3 times with guys on base. RR’s lineup construction continuing to be awful -

I wanted him. Loved him after watching video of him screaming like a maniac on the mound at florida because of a rain delay -
I wouldnt. Especially not with bauer available. Bauer is a perfect signing for this team, especially if hes serious about not wanting a long term deal. Sox then dont need to compete with the mega $250mil+ deals and can pay him $30 mil next year (if they can get him on a 1 yr+option deal even better). He eats up payroll before our younger guys get onto the backends of their extensions when their salary goes up. He holds down the rotation for a year or two when we have payroll flexibility and gives the next crop of arms (crochet, kelley, thompson, and dalquist) time to develop.
