If we sign EE, we might as well trade Collins. He killed AAA pitching after being sent down last year. Either give him a shot, or get something back for him now.
Personally, I think it would be stupid to sign a DH. Use the position to give our starters a semi rest day by not having to play the field.
This is fantastic. Both the pitcher (who I thought was the fourth best FA pitcher available) and the terms. Starting rotation is now set with vast improvement over last year. Need to get one right handed bullpen piece and this offseason is a solid B+.
I feel like his ERA was inflated last year due to giving up more HRs than what normally would be expected. He seemed to have a habit of pitching 4 great innings every game, and then having one inning where everything just fell apart.
I’ve watched a lot of games Teheran’s pitches. He’s one of those guys you watch and think, “boy his stuff sucks”. But somehow he has success. Doesn’t do any one thing particularly great
This is so dumb. I would understand the front office not wanting to sign guys over 30 if there’s success had been based on having power stuff. But to pass on guys who were also soft tosses in their 20s and simply know how to pitch is absurd. Those types of guys don’t fall off a cliff all of a sudden.
Sometimes it helps to, you know, know how to pitch.
The big problem I have with a lot of these types of statistics, is that they over value things like spin rates, and velocity. They're turning pitchers back into throwers.
Not sure I'm putting any stock into this at all.
Chris Sale has been around a 4.4 his whole career.
Max Scherzer hasn't had one above 4 in 3 years.
Interesting statistic, but I don't believe it means much.
I'd take Price's salary too if that's what it takes. He'd be coming off the books at the same time Moncada, Benintendi and Gioltio would be up for free agency so it doesn't kill them payroll wise. He's still a solid #2 pitcher if he stays healthy and gives the young guys a veteran to learn from.
