New rule idea: Vertical safe zone
ChiSox1917 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) A smaller leadoff means you need less speed and momentum to get back to the bag on time, so you're probably less likely to inadvertently pop off by a fraction of an inch for a fraction of a second. I think Jake's post above makes a pretty good point. Not really. The reason this is being debated is the situations when at a full sprint a players momentum bounces them up off the bag for a half an inch. Even with a huge lead, I've never seen this occur when trying to slide back headfirst to first base (or any other) on a pickoff attempt, because the players momentum isn't going to bounce them when they're not at a full run. What this prevents is the cases when a play happens after running 90 feet (ish) and sliding either head first or feet first and the players body hits the bag and as they slide through it, it bounces up for a brief millisecond. This can happen in head first slides when he comes up onto the bag with his body, feet first slides as a players calf bounces up slightly before his thigh makes contact, or on pop up slides. It is incredibly cheap to call a guy out in those situations and not within the spirit of the game to do so. -
New rule idea: Vertical safe zone

Common sense rule. incredibly cheap to get a guy out whos momentum bounces him ip off the bag for a brief millisecond -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) He has already shown that. He and Abreu will anchor that offense for a number of years If they can get a top 50 prospect for him, would rather trade him this offseason

QUOTE (zisk @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) YM walks a lot. TA never walks. I agree with the guy who thinks TA would be best suited for #6 hole. Bat Moncada lead off and you might end up with a Ricky Henderson type{from my lips to Gods ears}. For #2 slot the next 2-3 years it might be covered very well by Nick Delmonico. His career OBP in the minors is 85 points higher than his BA because he's a patient hitter. He also could use that patience to give YM a chance to steal some bases. If ND turns out to be a .275 hitter with 60-70 walks and 40-50 XBH's for a few years while also making peanuts for a salary, that would be an incredible help. Long term the sox have several in house candidates for #2 hole. Luis Gonzalez is a guy I would keep an eye on. Agree with this, and also strongly agree with the OP that leadoff should be Yoan's future spot in the lineup. Haven't really considered Delmonico as a 2 hole hitter, but that could work. I would also consider guys coming up like Robert and Rutherford...maybe even Collins in that spot.

I'm thinking this Giolito kid may be pretty good

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) I am now anticipating that 0/43 slump that drops Garcia below .300. Will not happen to Avi "Mr. Hall of Fame" Garcia
-
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:54 AM) I've been saying all season that Avi will be a perennial all star the rest of his career and a future HOF inductee (maybe first ballot). If our rebuild is to be successful, we must sign him to a long term contract (unfortunately, the organization has probably cost itself 50-75 million by waiting til this point) Not only that but i would bet even money that he breaks pete rose's hit record

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
ChiSox1917 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He needs to learn to be more aggressive in certain counts. Much easier to teach that than being patient -
What adjustments does moncada need to make?
ChiSox1917 replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Needs to be a bit more aggressive in hitters counts and with 2 strikes -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 01:49 AM) Munson for me in the short time he played. .333 lifetime avg. with RISP. I think his last game he played was at Comiskey Park. I was there. Fisk was a freak of nature and his better years was in Chicago. You wont see anyone like that. If you do in the American league they will make them play 1B. There was Simmons, Bench, Fisk, and Munson, all household names. It isn't like that any more. No way were fisks better years in chicago

Mlb the show rates him terribly as a pitching coach every year in their video games. Really pisses me off when i see his ratings in my franchise mode

2019 I see the team start to make a turn. Not make the playoffs, and possibly not even finish .500, but will show enough of a promise to get us excited for the next year. 2020 I think we'll be a mid 80's win team/borderline playoff team, and by 2021 - 2025 we'll be the top of the AL Central.

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) None of us know if he's a good player or not [including this FO], and yet, he's pretty much locked into the starting SS role for the foreseeable future. What other organizational behaviors will that impact? Will they pass on a SS prospect in the draft, or in the international market, or in trade? Will they not give more deserving candidates a shot to win the job? Why would they do that? He's not a huge investment. If he doesn't work out, his contract is not overpaying even for a utility guy

I really see Mocada as the future leadoff guy. I know he has some power, but so did Rickey, and Moncada's eye and speed are too good not to have him at the top of the lineup. 2b: Moncada CF: Robert DH: Abreu RF: Jimenez 3B: Burger C: Collins 1B: Sheets LF: Rutherford SS: Anderson SP: Rodon SP: Kopech SP: Giolito SP: Lopez SP: Adams Not sure Adams will be as good as Hansen or Dunning, but I think he beats them both to the majors. Wouldn't be surprised to see Kopech, Adams, Guerrero, and Stephens all getting a shot next year.

QUOTE (CregerMax @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) I don't usually log in or post often. I usually check the boards at least half a dozen times a day. These past few days have been horribly boring without this site. Welcome back! I actually had to work at work this week due to the site being down. Really hope this doesn't happen again

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 09:20 PM) I'm 26 and most of my friends, acquaintances, and people I associate with are between the ages of 20-30. I would say 40-60% smoke weed, at least occasionally. I know a lot of people who stopped due to jobs/drug testing/applying for jobs, but would continue to smoke if they didn't have to worry about it affecting their job security. I'm unsure about cocaine. I hear a lot of my friend's say "I can't believe how many people our age do coke, it's so widespread, even people you wouldn't think", but I've only seen it a handful of times myself, and that was from friends of friends I don't really associate with. So probably like 10-15%, but I could be way off. Alcohol is widespread, easily 70%+. Amphetamines (not meth, but Adderall and things like that) is another common one, especially among the college aged and those who work long hours and night shifts. I'd peg it at like 20-35%. Cokes more popular in the club scenes and richer areas. Not much coke being snorted in middle or upper middle class areas. Weed is popular across all demographics though for sure, and while I think 40-60% is probably high for 20-30, that would probably be about right if it was made legal.

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie
ChiSox1917 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) It probably is what Jennings is worth, but no excitement whatsoever from me over him. Offensive struggles is something the White Sox haven't been able to fix in years. I don't know why it would start now. Given his defensive position, he is going to have to hit a lot to be a viable player. I don't see getting traded to the White Sox organization his big break. By no means a star, but Davidson looked almost out of baseball after 2014 & 2015. Had a rebound in the minors in 2016 and hasn't been completely terrible by any means this year. -
8-22 in our last 30 games. Keep it up guys!!!
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) That trade package is absurd haha^^^ The sheer amount of inexpensive control the Sox would be giving up to absorb Stanton's huge contract would be a fireable decision. You are giving up an elite prospect in Jimenez, a quality catching prospect in Collins, and three potential starting pitchers. That package above would land any player in the mlb. Never going to happen, If the Angels asked for that for Trout, I'd have to at least consider it. But I'd honestly still probably turn it down. That's just too much value for one player

Very rough game for Yoan today. Looked bad up at the plate and bobbled a couple out in the field. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) Ricky is hilarious. Bunts with Moncada but lets Gonzalez swing away. Gonzalez won't be with the club when they're expected to be good again so he doesn't need to learn how to bunt in game situations Terrible call there by the ump ringing up Yoan -

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) That still doesn't make much sense because you should almost never be bunting anyway, it's not a particularly useful skill. It can be in certain circumstances. Not every single time we get a base runner like Rick seems to believe -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) Rick hates straight steals it seems. Always hit and run or bunts with him. He's gotta go by 2019 when Sox are ready to at least be respectable again -
Gotta figure nerves are getting to Yoan. All the future hopes of the WSox must feel like they're riding on his shoulders right now
