  1. Danks was done, but nevertheless - in his 4 starts before being cut: - Never went less than 5 IP - Never gave up more than 6 ER In the 3 starts from Shields with us: - *He's gone 5 IP once - He's never given up LESS than 6 ER And there's always that last start from SD we can throw in for an "apples to apples" comparison. So if Danks is done (and we agree) based on his numbers, what logic enables you to continue to argue that Shields is not? *This, in a game where we are already losing 6-0 after 2 innings!
  2. Dick - I'm not the one trying to prove anything. I am saying that YOU CAN NOT PROVE how the Sox offense performs by simply substituting a pitcher that has been DFA'd into a game log. And the even bigger point is that we cut and/or traded the other guys so GOING FORWARD, we are WORSE off in the likely scenario this continues rather than having some options if we stood pat and or addressed another (more important) need.
  3. They scored a bunch of runs that whole series because DETROIT PITCHING SUCKS! But whatever, Dick - Have fun with your rationalization of Shields and conclusions drawn based on nothing but your own "confidence."
  4. But they didn't score 10 runs with Shields pitching. They scored 6. The rest came after he was out, and simultaneously, so was the Tigers starter (Boyd).
  5. Yes, silly indeed. I mean - of course having guys run around for 45 minutes while 7 plus runs cross the plate in the 1ST INNING doesn't have an effect on them at the plate. Why would it?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) There is a way. They scored 4, 10 and 2 runs. They would have won the game they scored 10. I don't think Danks or Johnson are giving up less than 4 to Washington. And you really think they would have held the Indians to 2? Oh, so you just want to assume the offense is the same, while switching out a pitcher. I see. More nonsense. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) Exactly what you are doing when it comes to Johnson, Latos, and Danks. How about saving $ and time?
  7. Disagree. Shields has a 23+ ERA in less than 10 IPs and 3 starts. Even worse if we include his last start at SD. If that doesn't scream "done" loud enough for you, you are just refusing to hear it no matter what the actual numbers say.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) As bad as he's been, if Erik Johnson, John Danks or Mat Latos made the 3 starts Shields made, the Sox would more than likely be 1-2 in them, just what they are with Shields. That is pure conjecture. There is absolutely no way you can support that conclusion.

    Blow It Up

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) Yeah, he was a good prospect, failed. That's the problem with trying to do a rebuild where you rely on every piece working out. Part of the trading away our talent that likely won't be good when we actually make the playoffs is to get a LOT of talent, so you can handle a davidson not working out. But that obviously doesn't fit your reflexive anti-strawman arguments. DA, you know this front office has failed. The people pointing it out aren't wrong. We have traded more major league talent than we've brought in and are basically the same team. There is no great cavalry coming up in the next two years to plug our gaps. At some point you have to weigh what is faster to get to the playoffs, acquiring a bunch of young pieces and let them develop 2 yeras before supplementing them with ML pieces, or dumpster diving for vets after you've alreayd maxed out your budget because your core is so good that it makes you look like your continued fourth and fifth place finishes are a fluke. I love this post - particularly the bolded. Add to that - You have 2 ELITE VALUE players in Sale and Quintana. A competent FO should be able to bring in an absolute haul from just those two, and they need to BECAUSE of what bmags is saying. The Sox are out of bullets. There is nothing on the farm and there is no way they are going to fill all the holes they have to take advantage of this good core. It is what it is, but it could be worse by not having these 2 assets. It's time to make the wise decision and right the ship.
  10. The Sox just need to concede that they got played by SD. This was a monumentally stupid signing that many fans saw right from the start. He's now at a 26.83 ERA over his last 4 starts (23.05 for the Sox). The guy is done and he's a sunk cost. Stick his sorry ass in the pen for mop up duty and don't move him until he can prove he can pitch more than 4 innings without giving up more than a run an inning. This is ridiculous. At 34 - you're not going to "fix him". It's doubtful he's going to listen to anyone anyway.
  11. 1.2 IP, another 8 ER. Inning eater !!!111!!!
  12. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 17, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) He was also a regular at the bar. For years. He also went on dates with class mates of his when he was studying Criminal Justice. He was also flirting with guys on gay apps. He clearly had a lot of confusion over his own identity and couldn't handle it, nor, most likely, could he turn to his family for support - and hadn't been lucky enough to develop a chosen family where he could turn for support. People talk about how he pled allegiance to ISIS on the phone, neglecting that he pledged allegiance to Nusra and Hezbollah and the Boston Marathon bombers. None of those people are connected, and Nusra, Hezbollah and ISIS are all enemies of each other. That's not someone with a clear sense of ideology. Your first paragraph doesn't surprise - it supports my conclusion (self loathing gay). None of those organizations have tolerance for homosexuality. NONE OF THEM. NOT A SINGLE ONE. You couldn't find a more COMMON AND CLEAR SENSE of idealogy. Get real.
  13. Appreciate you posting your take. Since you're are a homosexual - I wonder if you're familiar with this guys upbringing (father, specifically), sharia, etc. I mean - I can't understand how anyone can't see the Islamic extremism/sharia/self-loathing in this. He was a muslim "body builder" with a Taliban sympathizing father "extremist/Sharia proponent" with a history of 2 s***ty marriages to women (surprise - slapped them both around) because he's obviously a self-loathing gay. This was not about SOCIETY and AR-15s. It's about Islamic religious doctrine that is intolerant, stupid, and quite frankly - poisonous. There is no reason any of us should be around it, subject to it, and/or import it to our country. Get real.
  14. As long you don't quote him, they're easy to ignore: You have chosen to ignore all posts from: caulfield12. · View this post · Un-ignore caulfield12 Which is why I implored him to stop quoting him.
  15. I ignore Caulfield posts, but I would bet $ it's about Erik Johnson and the Nationals. Tell me I'm wrong.
  16. Looked at his games logs over the past few years and he clearly loses steam as seasons progress. He was over a 4.3 ERA during his last months of 2015 (11 starts). His numbers ARE weird..he gets touched up for 7 ER or so frequently and rebounds, but there is nothing in his "storied" history of 3 games in a row like this. Look - Guys eventually reach the point where they are done. I think SD recognized this. We, unfortunately..did not. I hope I'm wrong, but I really don't think so. If he throws 200 IP this years it would be a miracle. Similarly, if he keeps his ERA under 5. Neither of these things make him worth almost $30M and 2 1/2 years. This will likely be a s***ty signing and best...a "meh" signing. There were at least 3 bigger holes to fill then James Shields for 2 1/2 @ almost $30M.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) Did you break your keyboard with this post? Quit quoting him. Please.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) The White Sox currency now is cash not prospects. Not a good match for Myers. ^ This. Completely agree.
  19. Well...the thing about Robin is: He doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Quite frankly - none of them do. Are they "All In?" Not? Showcasing turds like Avi? Got $ to spend? Don't? Nobody knows. Expect minimal effort on the part of EVERYONE and mediocre results. White Sox Baseball™.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Harper. Young left handed power bat with great contact skills, good defensively. In the toss up between Harper and Trout, I give Harper the edge for his left handedness and campaign to make baseball fun again. I was originally leaning Harper too for the same reason (LH hitter), but when I looked at the splits - Trout is still better against RHP than Harper (albeit, slightly).
  21. My buddies hired a driver and rented a van stocked with booze for my bachelor party. We hit about a half dozen strip clubs, easy, on the way to a rented out bar where they had hired even more strippers. 'Twas glorious. And best part was my wife signed off on the whole thing.
  22. Could've been 8 if Robin had sent Anderson in the 6th against that righty and Saltalamacchia with his 25% CS rate.
