QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 12:32 AM) It's absolutely risky, and the Sox shouldn't play this game. What is the exact parameters of that 72 hour rule to sign someone? Can we trade for MM and then try to sign him and after 72 hours it doesn't get done the trade is void? Not exactly sure how it goes. And i would put Anderson in any trade for MM. He is a decent player but if we have anything close to the great pitching i think we will have we need a better defensive shortstop especially if Burger is at 3rd. MM at short would be perfect.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 08:42 AM) We are in kind of a mostly dead period in the offseason, so... how about a Mail Bag? Ask your questions about the White Sox farm here, for an article to go up in a day or two. Let's hear them! What is the status of Victor Diaz and do you think he has any chances to figure in the Sox plans down the road?

I believe i read our TV deal will be up after 2019. Has anyone heard what the Sox are possibly looking at in terms of The amount of money it will be fetching? Rumors, nuggets, info maybe? San Diego signed a 1.2 billion dollar deal and Arizona 1.5 billion so we have a chance to do pretty good IMO. St louis also signed a deal over a billion. Were in a big market but maybe not a big market team per say. Thanx any input would be appreciated.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) I think they're better right now. Maybe pick up Martes in trade and then ship him to the Yankees for a couple of their position prospects like Frazier and Rutheford. Just spitballing here.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) Eaton's a clown...that was obvious. But he could play...and a lot better than Frazier can. I hope it's coincidence that the 2 players moved were the 2 locker room pains in the neck. Because the dispersal needs to continue - long way to go. Eaton was probably pissed with fraziers 135 batting average with runner as in scoring position around mid sept.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) After Quintana gets traded the team signs NOBODY. You will be looking at a team losing at least 100 games this year. I expect it to be even worse in 2018 after Frazier + Cabrera leave. I read where the team will have a guaranteed payroll of only $35 million dollars entering the 2018 season. I'm still hoping the team has new ownership by then. God i hope so. Nothing would make me happier than getting the ist pick in the draft 2 years in row and being ready to compete in 2019. In fact if doesnt happen i will be pissed. Lose and lose big the next. 2 years. Puts a smile on my face.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) Pretty sure we are open to a Cubs deal Jimenez, Happ, Candelario and Cease/Zagunis would be a nice package Jimenez and Happ would be enough for me. It's light i know but i would take in a heartbeat. Throw in Cease and its a done deal. I would ake Cantini the catcher over Zagunis. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) They ALSO did a great job (at least for 2016) going after Fowler and Zobrist, which looked like a questionable deal for his age at the time. The irony is that the two most obvious FA targets after Cespedes last year (Heyward and Upton) were incredible disappointments, although Upton rallied in the second half to put up seemingly respectable numbers, but too little too late. To date, Heyward and Edwin Jackson are the only huge black marks on Epstein, unless you start criticizing some of his Cuban spending, like the LHP Gerardo Concepcion (and he made the big leagues last year). AND BACK TO Q TALK... . Getting rid of D.J Lemehue wasnt a great move and got taken on that trade although it didnt hurt them too much obviously.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) It is also why the Sox rebuild is more likely to fail than the Cubs. Cubs fans allowed them to spend during their rebuild. That isn't going to happen here. Yea but the Cubs didnt have a Sale and Quintana to trade for prospects. Or a Eaton, Frazier, Robertson, jones, Cabreara or Abrue. In fact no team in the last 40 years had 2 cost controlled top left handed pitchers to trade. NEVER!! Plus now with the international signing cap we can be on equal footing with teams like the Cubs, Dodgers, Redsox and Yankees. Not taking anything away from Theo he did a Awesome job of drafting and trading but the comparison about the Cubs and Sox rebuild has no merit. Different ways going about it.

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 12:09 AM) If they've held out this long I have to believe they are going to get a fleecing the likes of the Eaton deal eventually. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/cubs...oEFhlX5glw.97,,, i would take HAPP, JIMENEZ AND DYLAN CEASE FOR QUINTANA. DEAL!!!!! I might take Happ and Jiminez alone and be happy. Below is what was written a couple days ago about the Cubs from baseball america. If they don't get Ross who knows. Quintana to the a Cubs helps out both teams and makes the most sense. a Sent from my iPadIan Happ (Photo by Bill Mitchell) CHICAGO—The Cubs spent four years building a farm system that helped them reach the top of the heap. Now they plan to use it to acquire what they need to stay there. “Look, we knew this day was coming,” president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said after the Cubs traded one of this front office’s original core prospects, young slugger Jorge Soler, to get acquire closer Wade Davis at the Winter Meetings. “One of the reasons we’ve invested heavily in position players in the draft, international markets and trades is because they’re good bets to return value,” he said. “We’ve identified a core of guys we really believe in, who have gotten here and helped us win a championship already. “And we feel like some of our prospects have a chance to join that core, but other ones we’re going to end up trading. That was part of the plan all along.” The 2017 Opening Day lineup could include five young position players either acquired as prospects or drafted by the Cubs: first baseman Anthony Rizzo, third baseman Kris Bryant, left fielder Kyle Schwarber, shortstop Addison Russell and center fielder Albert Almora. But the system hasn’t come close to producing an impact pitcher. Following the 2017 season, Jake Arrieta, John Lackey and Davis could be free agents. Chicago parted with top prospect Gleyber Torres in July when they traded him to the Yankees for Aroldis Chapman. Prospects such as outfielder Eloy Jimenez and 2015 first-rounder Ian Happ could be on deck. “You can’t necessarily develop all your position players and all your pitchers both homegrown,” Epstein said. “And the plan all along was to take some of the position players and turn them into pitchers . . . “Over the next couple of years, we’ll certainly make more trades where we say goodbye to some position players who are hard to part with but bring us the pitching we need.” CUBBYHOLE • Ben Carhart, a catcher and first baseman who was part of Epstein’s first Cubs draft class in 2012, has retired and will become rehab coach in the Rookie-level Arizona League. • Former big leaguers Desi Wilson and Mariano Duncan move up from Double-A and high Class A hitting coach jobs, respectively, to share Triple-A Iowa hitting coach duties. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) That won't work. And who would have thought we get Giolito and Lopez + for Eaton. And Moncada and Kopich were unachable. The Astro's talk can only help the possibility of a better deal wih another team.

He won't embarrass the team or organization, but he's about as interesting as listening to paint dry. Benetti and Stone are awful together. Each guy is trying to hard to be to cute and more clever than the other and they both come off as sarcastic smart asses to me. Il take Hawk and day of the week. -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) Nice twist there. I wasn't complaining. I was addressing the idea that they would be competitive in 2018. They won't. That is the reality here. OK so we won't be good in 2018. Lets get the high draft pick and compete in 2019. Our record in 2018 won't have any bearing on 2019 success just like the Cubs and Mets losing records in 2014 didn't have any bearing on their 2015 record. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) Again, assuming the Sox find some actual position players to start slotting in at some point. Realistically, 2017 is a lost year. None of the players we are talking about will be on the opening day roster. They will all be in the minors. The front end of this group looks like it should start coming up mid season or later. Optimistically guys like Gio, Lopez and Moncada get a half a year on the major league roster. This season will be loaded with 4A and has been players playing everywhere. 2018 should be the first full season for a the front end of these guys. The rest of the guys are years away. The end of 2018 is super optimistic for guys like Basabe, Kopech, Dunning, and Collins. They are probably looking at 2019 to debut, and maybe start contributing. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see 2018 as the worst year of the rebuild, and not 2017. PERFECT. 2017 is a lost year and i hope we win 60 games and get the ist pick. I will personally be rooting against the SOX all year and just hoping some of the future young guys and the players we can trade at the break if they are still on team( Abrue, jones, Frazier etc) do well. But for the Sanchez, Saladino's or Garcia's, Coats Etc i hope they make the team lose if that makes sense. Personally if the top prospects in the Minor leagues do well and the Sox lose i will be ecstatic. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Gardner and Headley are not negative value pieces and may actually give the Sox a couple guys to flip at the deadline. And really I'm not on board with the idea of breaking loss records, having a watchable MLB team would be nice. I am TOTALY on board with losing and if setting a loss record in the process so be it. No one remembers how bad you were in 2017 if you make the playoffs and win a World Series 2 plus years after that. Maybe a Harper or Bryant is out there as the ist pick. The phrase of " you have to field a team" is as outdated as in football " you have to take the points on the road". Garbage. I would very happy with Saladio, Sanchez, Coats, Garcia all starting and winning 60 games. Sacrifice the present for future makes me excited.... -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Trade Quintana, Jones and Robertson and yes, we are probably one of the worst teams. Frazier, Melky, Abreu, Anderson are enough to keep us semi decent, but the utter lack of bullpen and pitching means we need to score 10 runs to win AL teams will run train on a depleted White Sox roster Again i want all those guys traded before the year starts if we get the return. The LAST Thing i want to do is root for this team to win. I want Anderson and Rodon to do well but if Carlos Sanchez gets a game winning hit i will be pissed. Lose and lose big and get the ist pick in the Draft and then the fun starts!!! -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) I wasn't saying anything about that deal. My comment was is that he is not as good as sale thus you shouldn't expect the same haul the Sox got for Sale. Torres, Rutheford and another good prospect is a good deal the Sox IMO. I know it seems light but better than the Houston deal talked anout here IMO. We received enough pitching prospects in the Eaton deal to go along with Fullmer, Burdi, Hanson and Adams and Kopech we have enough righty handed pitchers. For example at this point i would take the 50th ranked position player over the 25th ranked right handed pitcher if that make sense. And someone said Rutheford is 3 years away from the majors. Well we are 2-3 years away from being competitive so I'm fine with that. 2019 is my target year to make a playoff run. I hope this year we lose and lose BIG!!!!! The ist pick in the draft is Huge IMO if Beer is a cant miss stud like most experts say. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 02:08 PM) Since Quintana has no pressure, that means the opposing player has no pressure, since Quintana has been able to dominate opposing players in the box. Its all relative, when players show up to the Cell....um, G Rate, they feel no need to win the game because the Sox arent good, so they just let Quintana beat them since he doesnt have any pressure either. So, in summary, Quintanas numbers dont mean anything because nobody feels any pressure in the field where the White Sox play, therefore all numbers generated in the field where the White Sox play dont mean anything because Josh McCown Pressure is knowing that everytime you go to the mound if you give up 2-3 runs your teams loses. That's pressure. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) No, I could never root for my team to lose. However, it does make me a lot less upset when I think we will benefit out of it in the long run. This year I will be a lost less invested in wins and losses and more curious as to how individual pieces perform. Anderson still isn't a sure thing, I still think Sanchez has a chance to be a good player given his track record in the minors, and it will be interesting to see if the Sox can dumpster dive again this year (Latos) but profit off it at the deadline. HE'LL YES!!!!!! If we don't get the ist pick in the draft I'm going to be upset. I hope all the young guys that will be builiding around like Rodon and Anderson do good along with anyone i think we will be trading like maybe Abrue or Jones if they are still on the roster. It won't even be difficult to do. I don't want to miss a chance on if the next Harper or Brynt is coming out. I will be rooting against them BIGTIME.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) I get why the Sox would not want to trade Sale to the Cubs, but I could see the Cubs being interested in Quintana and his cheap four years of control. He would slot perfectly into the rotation and provide additional insurance against Arrieta leaving in free agency. With the way their roster is currently constructed, players like Ian Happ, Eloy Jimenez and Jaimer Candelario have nowhere to play Now I doubt the Cubs would be willing to offer this, but a deal of Happ, Jimenez and Candelario for Quintana could make sense for each side In a earlier post i said Happ and Jiminez alone and i would do it in a heartbeat. Alittle light but when you put all the pitchers we received in the other two trades ill take 2 highly regarded position players. Maybe get Cantini the catcher. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Yes to bell/jones. Are you asking in a "Q/Jones for glasnow, meadows, bell" type way? Just trade Quintana to the Cubs for Ian Happ and Elroy Jiminez and maybe the Catcher Cantini or outfielder Donnie Dewees. Cubs will save money by not having to pay Arrietta and lackey will be gone also so Q would be a good fit IMO. Plus both those guys are blocked anyway on the Cubs roster just like Gleyber Torres was. I would take Happ and Jimenez only and i know it doesn't seem like enough on paper but after what we got for Eaton and Sale i would be very happy with just those 2. Not going to happen i know but it does make sense for both teams. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) That is a really fair asking price I feel like. The Sox won't trade Quintana for less than that, and Houston can certainly afford to deal Musgove/Martes/Tucker in exchange for four years of prime Q Sidenote: We would have unrivaled prospect pitching depth in the mlb if that deal were to happen That is alot of right handed pitchers in the minors. Not complaining but that would make the the top 10 pitchers in our minor leagues all right handers. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) From Keith Law Chat Mike: Astros have to make a deal for Quintana at this point no? Assuming the rays aren't trading archer there isn't another option that keeps them on their current plan. Seems like the perfect scenario for Hahn to strike gold again. Law: It's the ideal fit if they can agree on a price. If I'm Hahn, I'm focused on the bigger prospects, but definitely hoping to snag AJ Reed in the deal too. Maybe they have to do a 3 way deal with a Colorado or Houston and get like a Blackmon or Springer with a couple good prospects and then send one of those guys to team 3 for a couple of their good prospects. Kinda like the Frazier deal but with better players. Just thinking out loud. -

QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) people expectations need to be tempered because i see a LOT of people talking about how exciting next year or 2018 is going to be when in reality these kids aren't ready to play in the big leagues yet. come back to me when you see the roster this upcoming season and let me know how many games you plan on going to. Who cares about next year. I hope we win only 60 games and get the first pick in the draft. That is unless Q and some of the rest our still on the roster and in that case i want those specific players to do good so we get more in return. I wouldn't burn anyone's service time anyway in case they turn out to be real good. Rodon and Anderson are the players i want to excell. If Leury Garcia get a game winning hit I'm not going to be excited if that makes sense. -
Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
SoxSteve replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) If the Red Sox trade JBJ, they're going to need a corner OF after Betts moves back to CF. Since they're in "win now" mode, I think that Melky would help move that deal along. I don't think that Dombrowski wants to move Benintendi, so he's going to have to give up Moncada as part of a deal for Sale. If he doesn't, I'd do a deal with the Nats instead. Why not trade Sale for the Boston package and then send Quintana to the Nats for Giolito, Robles and Kierbaum. Maybe throw in Robertson but i always considered the TOTAL package of prospects for Sale and Quintana to be the gauge if we got enough back. And trading Sale without trading Quintana is foolish in my book. Just sayin
