  1. This. Exactly this. I would have preferred the cash being invested elsewhere for this years team. At the same time, buying a closer on the wrong side of 32 hasn't exactly worked out for this team over the years. That said, congrats to him on this honor. Here's hoping he can keep this up and live up to the contract.
  2. I disagree, from this perspective: Set aside the absolute moronic idea of giving away 4+ years of whatever Kopech will become. And set aside that 3 of the ~top 8 or 9 SPs (Lynn, Rodon, Lopez) will become FA after this season. THIS years bullpen hasn't been all that it was advertised to be before the season. And Kopech has been among the top performers for that bullpen, for better or worse; his role as a multi-inning reliever and spot starter has been key for this team. And then, if you subtract Kopech from THIS year's bullpen, who takes on his role? Lopez? Stiever? Who? It would have to be a HELL of a player coming back to paper over a weakened bullpen for this years team. And that's why, IMO, for this season, its a stoopud, idiotic, and moronic idea. Tack on the weakening of future teams by making a panic buy/giving away Kopech, and it would be a fooking fireable offense for this FO.
  3. The idea of trading Kopech isnt "insanity," its a flat-out stoopud idea that should be killed with impunity.
  4. These aren't bad ideas, but to #6: Forums like Soxtalk are/were the primitive precursors to today's social media. Now, I'll wholeheartedly agree that controlling your social media exposures fall under the idea of "controlling your associations." Like most people, I've had to struggle with an appropriate degree of social media exposures; I've also squandered too much time posting on forums here and there. Now, I don't have farcebook, Twitter, or Instagram. I do keep LinkedIn for business, and am on soxtalk, a board for my motorcycle, and bigsoccer, as these fora match some interests i have. But I still have to choose how much time, and what I post on. (And sometimes, I catch myself on these boards too long.) But someone who is easily led about by "the media" can equally be shackled by the balls by social media. I think for some, your addenda have solid merit.
  5. Got a link for any of this? (And not some bullshit water-carrier outlet for the previous administration, someone neutral.) To the bolded, if you've got a non-bullshit link, I'm game. Absent that, I'm more inclined to posit that bullshit artists who lie about everyfuckingthing are unlikely to be believed. And so, when you try to tell the world that your height and weight matches A Rod's, maybe they wont believe you when you tell the world that it was some conspiracy behind COVID.
  6. Meh, I don't see any evidence of this, at least not outside of fox/oan/other bullshit networks. And even if fox/oan/other bullshit members of "the media" want to criticize "the media," maybe others would take them at their word if they weren't 100% water-carriers for that administration. Maybe that administration shouldn't have spent 3+ years telling lies. When a person gets a reputation for, like, literally bullshitting about, like, EVERYTHING, it makes it less likely that others will take them at their word. IOW, maybe there is/was a consequence to lying, "alternative facts," and bullshit. If they'd been more about the truth, then maybe "the media" might have been more willing to accept what they were saying. YMMV.
  7. So, you watched sky news Australia, AKA another Murdock turd that exists to lead the naive and the stoopud around by the balls? Greg, we've covered this already. If you really want to make your life better, reduce your intake of outright shit. Stop feeding your brain bullshit. And just reduce your intake of "news." Here's a thought for you: 1. Cut your consumption of "news" to 1x/day, for less than 30 min/day. 2. Read books, especially non-partisan books, and avoid partisan bullshit. 3. Get some exercise everyday. 4. Meet and connect with people who are different from you, especially successful people who come from a different background from you. If you do this, your life and your mind and your mentality will greatly improve. You won't be able to recognize yourself, and it'll be for the better. I believe there's a happy, well-adjusted, good guy in there somewhere. You just need to unleash this. Good luck.
  8. I mean, this is "so White Sox." It's such an unnecessary, unforced error. I can't think of anyone who would have wanted the name change. And, while one could argue exactly how much outrage to have, it was clearly unwise to undo a nice gesture to a loyal worker. These sorts of decisions do not reflect positively on the organization . Just so unnecessary, IMO.
  9. I did have a nearly identical post, because there won't be any free wins in the playoffs. There won't be easy series against struggling opponents. There won't be "pick me ups" against AAAA Detroit or AAAA Baltimore. Or slump busters against whatever underperforming team you can think up. So yeah, I'd like to see this team prove its mettle against superior opposition. Not shit their pants against superior opposition. We as a fanbase have never seen back-to-back post seasons. (Shrugs)
  10. I think we as SOX fans should be glad that MLB is in an offensive environment such as this year's. Without definitive proof, I'm guessing that we this year a more "normal" offensive environment, a roster without TA for awhile, without Abreu here & there, without Eaton @ 100%, & without Robert/Jimenez might struggle more. I'm also keenly interested in the outcome of this series vs. The yankmees & the upcoming one vs stl. That is, from the standpoint of "going up a few weight classes" from Minnesota, KC, & Cincinnati.
  11. Yeah, thats the same move as Boras using the White Sox to drive up prices on his client FA players. Use another would-be "suitor" to artificially drive up the asking price. Reinsdorf to Chicago in the 80s: "See, Chicago? If you don't build me a free stadium, I'll move to Addison. Or Tampa!" Arlington Heights doesn't need or want professional sports. At best, if that land isn't developed before the Bears/Sox leases are up, Arlington Park will be used to get a better deal elsewhere for the reinsdorfs or McCaskeys.
  12. Yeah, there's no way the reinsdorfs will give up a free stadium for one that they would [GASP!] actually have to pay for. At the same time, that land is worth more to the current owners and to Arlington Heights as a different type of development. And that's even BEFORE one considers NIMBY interference, lawsuits, and other roadblocks put up to potentially put in a stadium. Stadia typically aren't put into wealthy neighborhoods/towns. I wouldn't waste very much time thinking about this, in all honesty.
  13. Is that still a thing? [Asking, 'cause my middle-aged brain isn't 100% on top of what the kids are saying these days.]
  14. Totally agree with all of this. Why wasn't there some "lead time" to release this announcement? Why wasn't the statement that Walensky gave more thoroughly vetted? Masking has been a reasonably-effective measure that for some is a carrot, whereas a stick for others. Why not use this "carrot-and-stick" to get us further along in terms of vaccination rates? Nope! Rip off that band-aid, and go with the time-tested Honor System!
  15. Look, in no way am I debating the medical science, as you appear to be doing here. Open? Don't open? Whatever the public health science says is, is what it should be. I take issue with the shitty application of SOCIAL science with respect to this announcement: 1. NO ONE was privy to the decision, not even Biden, prior to the announcement. How, exactly are policies supposed to be INTELLIGENTLY crafted, with ZERO foreknowledge? How are state/county/local governments supposed to gear up? How are businesses supposed to adapt their practices? How is anyone supposed to know who is vaccinated? 2. The whipsaw back-and-forth issuance of decrees is confusing to the public: A month ago, vaccinated people could gather in small groups unmasked. TODAY? We're all on the fucking honor system, and fuck any sort of burden of proof! 3. In society, we don't give out bonuses to citizens when they follow the rules, we PUNISH offenders, whether its a speeding ticket, all the way up to serial murder. But there's a burden of proof to penalize. With this stoopud fucking Honor System announcement, exactly WHO will fess up to being unvaccinated? WHO, exactly, will tell the truth? What Dr. Walensky has moronically done is to punish those of us who follow the rules. Or young children, for whom no vaccine yet exists. Or for families who HAVE young, unvaccinated children. And what if there's a variant out there for which we now have neither a vaccine, nor treatment? HOW will Dr. Dumbass get the American populace to believe what the CDC is selling in the future? Or if we have to go back to masking, HOW will Dr. Dumbass get the red hat types that watch what Greg watches to buy in? In effect, you're asking, "should we open up, yes or no?" I don't believe this is the right question to ask here. Instead, I believe that we should have asked, "HOW should we open up?" For me, this harebrained announcement by the CDC will be seen as a major fuckup. Were I Biden, I would ask for Walensky's resignation, as well as the resignations of any of the imbeciles who helped her come up with this announcement, AND failed to inform Biden beforehand. NOT for political purposes, but for POLICY/messaging purposes, so that we as a people can model proper behaviors going forward.
  16. Greg, you clearly have no clue, or are (once again) deliberately pretending that you have no clue. So, here, I'll help you: Look up "Mask Karen" here Greg, remember how you lost your shit about wearing a mask a year ago? Remember how you bitched about how "you couldn't breathe" with a mask? Remember how you whined about social distancing, and not being able to go to your favorite places at the beginning of the pandemic? Now, multiply that across millions of ignoramuses who b**** about "mah freedums," and you tell us how that would work for flu seasons. After all, the assholes on your favorite network tell you how your freedums are being taken away by radical leftist socialists all day. (And deliberately make you stupider.)
  17. Wait, what? Back when KW's 40 time got him onto stanford's FB team, neither an SAT, nor an ACT score were required for admission. Nor was a GPA of any sort required for so-called "student"-athletes on scholarship. None of these things became REQUIREMENTS for admission to NCAA schools until after the advent of Prop-48. The other side of the coin is that, ya know, ya gotta actually, like, complete the degree. Otherwise, you're just a high school graduate. [And one that got his diploma before the advent of "no pass, no play" laws in California.] Neither Getz nor KW really conform to the industry norms of having multiple advanced degrees to serve in high positions within a FO nowadays.
  18. I think they screwed the pooch on this one. In effect, they want Americans to go on the honor system. IOW, how, exactly does one ABSOLUTELY KNOW that someone else is "fully vaccinated?" How does a business KNOW, FOR SURE that that customer is vaccinated? Most folks who moronically assign a political meaning to masking are the types to refuse vaccination/lie about getting one. They could/should have differentiated between public spaces and private spaces for maskless gatherings, OR put in language urging businesses to maintain mask guidelines, without MANDATING them. We're only at ~35% fully vaccinated, which means that there are still plenty of fat fuck 'muricans for COVID to feast upon. And to create new variants. At best, this is only going to create confusion and "mask Karens" everywhere. At worst, this can fuck up our progress on this pandemic.
  19. It just threw me for a loop, given that the most of us are midwesterners, and I'd associated "brah" with an entirely different place/culture. Nah, I didn't think it was an insult or attack by any means; i just think its weird to go with that word choice. I dont see bro/brah as the same word/different spelling, because a word, if used by someone outside its source group could be "co-opty." "Brah?" Really?
  20. Yeah, you're so right. I mean, we get the Commissioner's Trophy for being #1 in a clickbait piece, right?
  21. So, here's a novel idea for you: You COULD, like, not post in this thread. You COULD read about and post in other threads. Just a thought. Or here's another novel idea: To this point in the season, one can be pleased with the team's performance, AND believe that TLR has earned every fucking ounce of ridicule he's gotten so far. Like, at the same time, even! It ain't that hard to do.
  22. Why is it "brah," not "bro?" "Brah" just seems wrong. Edit: Wait, are you trying to come off as a Hawaiian surfer dude? Or co-opting Hawaiian pidgin? "Brah" still seems wrong here, unless you're a Hawaiian surfer dude.
  23. I've seen players suck before, but Mazara just plain sucks. I mean, he's the suckiest suck that ever sucked. I gotta go, my damn wiener kids are listening.
  24. I don't get amped up watching this team beat up on AAAA KC, Cincinnati, or AAA Detroit. I don't get excited about this team being rated in the Top 3 of power rankings, after having beaten turd teams. I WOULD like this team to up their game against better competition. Here's their chance to prove their mettle, coming up against the twins and the yankmees [with lightweights KC and Baltimore sprinkled in for good measure]. White Sox Nation expects that every man will do his duty. Let's see it.
  25. Is there any news on Jace Fry? My googling skills have turned up nothing. I saw that he'd been transferred to the 60 day IL back in April, but that was to open up a spot for the awesome -0.2 fWAR that Nick Williams added. Is he done for the year? Thanks in advance.
