  1. Did LeMahieu also have a ZIPS projection of 0.7 fWAR, like Dahl's? I mean, that's WORSE than Mazara's 1.0 fWAR projection for 2021. Both Dahl and Mazara are pretty much replacement level players, if their projections are to be believed. [EDIT] The 200 point OPS home/road split I cited for Dahl is a career number, whereas the one you cite is for a single season for LeMahieu; I don't see Dahl's career splits vs. 1 season for LeMahieu as being all that comparable, in all honesty. Sorry, and while I did enjoy the articles Cali posted, they give no assurances that a mediocrity like Dahl will miracle his way into cromulence if he's moved away from Coors.
  2. Cali, I'm not calling YOU stoopud. I'm calling the idea of Dahl stoopud. I pointed out a YAWNING ~200 point difference in OPS between Dahl at Coors, and Dahl everywhere else. (.918 to .722) Thats the difference between a hall of fame player, and Avi Garcia. Your post was The Chewbacca Defense, which is a diversionary rhetorical tactic to avoid the real issue at hand. The real issue is that David Dahl is actually not very good at baseball, when you strip away some of his numbers' artificiality. You chose to cite DJ Lemahieu, who has exactly nothing to do with Dahls relative mediocrity at hitting, and mediocrity at fielding. In HIS case, take away Coors Field, and he's a .722 OPS hitter; his DRS shows him to be a mediocre at best fielder. (Yes, there are some defensive numbers that suggest he might be adequate in the field, but that perceived adequacy is attached to a middling non-Coors .722 OPS.) Now, to your point, I agree there can be some Rockies who can hit away from Coors. And there have been some ex-Rockies that go on to flourish elsewhere. But David Dahl has shown no such ability hereto fore in his career. His home /road splits are SO GLARING, that it can only be largely explained by the Coors Effect. FFS, its 200 freaking points difference in the OPS. On balance, between his mediocre hitting numbers, his mixed-to-mediocre fielding numbers, and his utter inability to stay healthy, he offers nothing to the White Sox. It would be a bad idea to pursue him for RF. Lastly, perhaps calling an oft-injured player like Dahl a "perma-cripple" offended some. For any offense caused, I apologize.
  3. Ok, so you're using another player (DJ Lemahieu) to justify acquiring a perma-cripple with decidedly pedestrian numbers? Are you serious? Congratulations! You've successfully deployed The Chewbacca Defense! Weren't you also in favor of the Mazara acquisition? No offense, but squandering time and money on DL Dahl would be fooking stoopud. He honestly ain't that good, and he's always injured. Besides Springer (who I dont think the SOX will sign), there are several better options available. Joc, JBJ, and FFS, since they're keeping (alleged) rapist Boston around, why not go full heel, and sign Puig? Oh yeah: speeding tickets or something. Fuck, I'd rather re-acquire Avi than waste time and money and effort getting a guy like Dahl who honestly sucks away from Coors, and whose splits v RHP are artificially inflated because of Coors. He offers nothing to a team thats ready to compete. Dahl, like Mazara and Rodon, need to go to a tanking/rebuilding team to rescue their MLB careers. Underperforming perma-cripples don't need to be anywhere near a team that's trying to win.
  4. Thats part of it. But, like Carlos Rodon, its also his body being made of glass.
  5. Great, so Dahl would have a mighty OPS of .750, instead of .722, were he here instead of in Coors. Then he'd get injured. Again. Then we'd have Engel overexposed, and the SOX would miss the playoffs. All because they signed a perma-cripple with artificial numbers, instead of Joc. Or JBJ. Or, FFS, any other number of options instead of DL Dahl.
  6. Yeah, I disagree with you. Signing an perma-cripple whose numbers are inflated by Coors Field is a bad idea, IMO. His splits are pretty telling: Dahl career splits A (snicker) 111 wrc+ AT Coors Field? A pathetic 87 wrc+ away? Put in more GLARING terms, an awesome.918 OPS in Coors, but a pathetic OPS of .722 away. (And remember, we'd be getting more of the .722 OPS, since The Rate is away from Coors.) He only has a 109 wrc+ career against RHP, which really ain't that good, since some of that would have come at Coors. Also, his DRS is negative at all OF spots. Also, the fact that Colorado gave up on him must mean that his injuries are more significant than one might suspect at first glance. Were this the 2018-2019 SOX, Dahl might have been worth a gamble. But for the 2021 SOX, he's EXACTLY the wrong player for RF, IMO.
  7. Overrated! (Clap clap clap-clap clap) Overrated! (Clap clap clap-clap clap) Overrated! (Clap clap clap-clap clap) Overrated! (Clap clap clap-clap clap)
  8. WRT the bolded, I do look at the offense collectively: Among the players, the the O-Line sucks, the QB sucks, and it has only 1 skill position player that is good enough to start for another team. About the coaching, none of the different parts of the offensive roster have improved, thanks to the coaching of Nagy, et al. And about the scheme, what does this team do well offensively? What is their signature? And since the offense is supposed to be Nagy's area of expertise, why isn't it better? His "scheme" isn't much of a system, but more of a list of plays, without any real regard to how they work together or compliment the talent. Now, I'd like to think I'm a fair guy. So, if this team makes the playoffs, then sure: keep Pace, and keep Nagy. But, if this team fails to make the postseason, then fire EVERYONE, start a fire sale of any/all players with any value, and hit the reset button. Pace and Nagy have their virtues, but both appear to be out of their depths in terms of their current jobs. Pace has a good eye for defensive players. But he has a shitty sense of value, a poor sense of how to build a team, and he's hired poorly. Similarly, Nagy’s players seem to like him. But he's a poor HEAD coach, in that he seems more interested in calling HIS playbook, and less interested in overseeing/developing players and systems. So again, if they make the playoffs, keep both Pace & Nagy. If not, fire everyone, trade everything away, and hit the reset button.
  9. Yeah. I know I wouldn't have been dumb enough to trade away what they did to move up 1 pick to grab the 2nd best QB from the ACC.
  10. Hes also provided 3 or more fWAR in 6 of the past 7 years before the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Hes also only had one season with a FIP >4.0. He'll be 32 this year, so he still should perform well enough over the next 2-3 seasons to be a decent part of the rotation. To me, Q is EXACTLY what this team needs: a reliable SP at a reasonable price that won't preclude other acquisitions. I'd sign him, even before chasing/waiting for Bauer or Springer to make their decisions.
  11. If Rodon had the ability to stay healthy, I might roll dice on him again. If he had any ability to locate his FB, he'd probably be signed for a long time for a lot of money. Alas, neither health, nor an ability to reduce walks are in evidence with him at this point. I think it would be best for he/his agent and the SOX to go their separate ways. I think Rodon would be best-served to sign a pillow contract with a rebuilding team, so that he can try to rescue his MLB career. I think the SOX need 2 healthy SPs who can get to 150+ IP, @ a cromulent ~4 to 4.25ish FIP. Then, reassess where their options are, both internally, and via a rental at the TDL.
  12. I think this is pretty cogent on your part. I'm thinking that the thus-far positive news on the vaccine has MLB in an exuberant mood this offseason. If I'm GM/Manager Tony LaRussa, I'd get to signing some SP depth sooner, rather than later.
  13. #s 1-6 ARE Nagy’s problem, because he's shown no ability to bridge these issues. He's out of his depth as a head coach, and he seems like he'd rather be a OC, anyway. That said, we saw the "fire the GM/keep the coach" movie before. And we know how that'll turn out. So, short of this team miracling their asses into the playoffs, fire everyone! Rip the bandaid off NOW, & get the rebuild started. I'd prefer that they trade any/all tradeable pieces for as many picks as possible. (Better to do so before they all get old/injured.) Then, draft the best available O-Linemen this draft, so that its at least league-average for when your franchise QB arrives in town. Then, tank 2021, and hope that there will be a franchise QB to draft/develop for 2022. This roster, with this coach, and that GM aint winning anything. Keeping any of it around will only prolong the suffering. As it is, they'll probably pick somewhere between 12ish and 20ish, depending on how they finish the season. There aren't enough picks/high enough picks to fix the O-line, find a QB, and find some skill position players in one offseason. They also don't have enough cap space to solve their issues in FA. So back the truck up. The Bears right now are where the SOX were on July 21, 2016.
  14. Holy shit! You admit this is a poorly-coached, and poorly-assembled team, yet you want to keep the shitty coach around? Why, exactly? Again, they have: 1. No QB, 2. A shitty O-Line, 3. (If Robinson doesn't re-sign here) No skill position players that would start for another team, 4. Not a high enough pick to solve some of these issues, 5. An aging defense, and 6. No cap space. So other than you having a fear of change, why repeat the Fire the GM/keep the coach failures of yesteryear?
  15. Nah, more like Ivanka Trump, seeing as how Hunter isn't, ya know, actually working for his dad, where as "Individual One" actually has children working for him.
  16. At least thered be a direction for this team. This team is directionless, except that it will never be good enough to win it all, as currently comprised. By holding out for "one more season," many of your trade assets will only get older, more injured, or in other ways degraded. Meanwhile, this team will be over the cap (according to Hub Arkush) going into next season, without a QB, without an O-line, without a proper head coach, and without a competent GM. Did I miss anything? (EDIT) Oh yeah, Robinson rightly wants to and deserves to get paid, too. But yeah, let's hold on, and hope to catch lightning in a bottle, right?
  17. Yeah, I've said it before, just blow it up, tank, & hit the reset button. 1. Fire everyone, 2. Trade every half-decent player off this roster for draft picks. 3. Find a proper, qualified GM. 4. Work to be as close to 0-16 every year, until a franchise QB falls into your lap.
  18. And this is what is wrong with our discourse these days. I dont know of a single democrat that leads with accusing the other side of the exact thing that they're guilty of having done. We see so-called "conservatives" having cheered this president and all of these actions. Why? Because he was on "their team." After he got buried to the tune of SIX MILLION VOTES, calling him "pretty much a Democrat" is sour grapes. You guys on the right supported this self-serving coward and his cowardly actions as POTUS all four of his failed years in office. Just man up, and wear it. There are actual conservatives had enough integrity to put this nation ahead of "their team." YMMV.
  19. WRT the bolded, you're exactly correct. One side of the aisle views politics as spectator sports, with "their team" winning or losing being more important than issues of policy. WRT the underlined, i disagree. Or, at least, I hope to disagree. That is, I hope that so-called conservatives don't want: 1. Children separated from parents, 2. Us as a nation to abandon our allies, 3. Us as a nation to "believe Russia" ahead of our OWN security/intelligence officials, 4. Expanding budget deficits, rather than "pay-as-you-go," 5. Banning certain countries' nationals from entering our country, 6. Presidents breaking emoluments clauses, and self-dealing, 7. Presidents using their office to enrich themselves and their family members, 8. Us as a nation retreating from globalization and leadership on the international stage, 9. Presidents giving dictators/strongmen like Kim/N Korea, Ergodan/Turkey and others credibility, 10. Presidents calling our nations honored dead "suckers and losers," And many, many anti-American and anti-conservative actions by this President. But, so-called "conservative" media outlets cheer this sort of behavior by this President, because he's on "their side," not because of any conservative ideals. YMMV.
  20. WRT the underlined, no worries; I went back and re-read what I'd posted about my backstory. I didn't want others to misunderstand my/my family's experience, and how it shapes my views. WRT a draft/mandatory service, platitudes are always voiced about, "freedom not being free." Yet, we have freedom freeloaders who moan and b**** about shelter in place orders/mask orders being "dictatorships," "communism," or "socialism." In a few short generations, this country went from: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" to: "Mah freedums!" You and I know that our citizenship has a flavor that those who did not serve can never appreciate. After all, we as humans value things we pay for MORE than things that are given away to us for free. So, the idea behind a "draft" or mandatory service isn't to improve our soldiery. [If it was, we would simply try to turn mere soldiers into MARINES! ?] The idea is to improve our citizenry, and the sense of duty to each other and to our nation. Just, IMO.
  21. And yet, there's this: Deported Vets story from the Military Times And this: NPR Story about deported vets This country has fucked some of those guys over.
  22. 1. Absolutely the DREAM ACT should be signed into law. 2. Increase the number of refugees allowed in. 3. Bar/deport serious criminals who enter. 4. Pathway to citizenship for law-abiding undocumented immigrants otherwise not covered by other legal statuses; if you get a hair up your ass to enforce some sort of penalty, make it a fine of some sort, proportionate to an immigrants means. 5. No wall; its a complete fucking waste of time and money. 6. End the travel ban. Did I miss anything?
  23. Regarding the underlined, I'm flabbergasted that many/most so-called "conservative" commentators are FOR the rejection of duty, especially wrt doing their part to stop COVID. Just tune into right wing radio, and its "dictatorship," "socialism," & "communism" to ask people to stay home/wear a mask. "Mah freedums" is more important than doing your fuckcing part. Shit like this is why we need a fucking draft, or at least, some form of mandatory service. Its comical that so-called "conservatives" embrace hedonism, & reject their Patriotic Duty. WRT the bolded, lemme clarify: I was born in Christ Hospital, and thus, am a native born citizen. Papa Two Guns held a 15 month old Two-Gun Pete in one arm, as he held his other to take the oath of citizenship. So, while HE had been undocumented at one point, my family was not. Once upon a time, Papa Two Guns didn't have his docs worked out before arriving in Jim Crow Florida. Back then, they'd let you leave the US, get your shit sorted, then come back. Which is what he did.
  24. Dude, his act is lame. I agree with you that there are many ways to serve. But, greg specifically said he'd die for this country, when he had a hard time putting on a mask and staying home. (His haircuts!) You and I both know people who actually have given their lives, or limbs, or their sanity for this country. And it is THAT specific sacrifice that is debased by a freedom freeloader who tosses a statement out like his. YMMV. Insofar as border/immigration control, Im the son of a parent who was at one time undocumented. Yet my father got his documentation, raised a family, and gave us more opportunity than most. He also provided 3 of his sons to serve this country, which is far more than most native-born Americans. (How many Trumps or Limbaughs or Carlsons served?) I just don't know that xenophobia posed as "border control" is as cut and dried as it is proposed by Trump. I'm hoping that we have a 50/50 split senate after the Georgia elections. That way, rather than pure McConnell obstruction, we can have sensible debate led by Centrists. And thus, we can come up with sensible solutions to many of the issues we face as a country. With a 50/50 split, moderates will have the bully pulpit, NOT "edge lords" on the far right or far left.
  25. Ok, as a veteran, I'm honestly curious: Did you serve your country, or are you just posting stoopid platitudes? See, i know you "think" you're a patriot, but saying/posting stoopid shit like the bolded is fucking offensive to those who have served, if you're a freedom freeloader. Here's a recco for you, (once you've gotten to my previous reccos to stop watching/reading/listening to stupid political shit, read a book, get exercise, and meet people different from you): If you haven't served, shut your stoopid fucking hole about the bolded part in your stoopid fuckng post. Sound good?
