  1. Ya know, I dont know which is worse: 1. That he's 76 fvkcing years old, and can't get a handle on this issue, OR 2. That he's been financially independent for at least a quarter century, yet can't get a fvkcing limo, cab, or uber to get him to/from dinner & drinks, OR 3. That he's a self-important fvkc-stick that tries to "big time" his way out of trouble? Clearly, he's "big timed" his way to get what he wants in the past, based on his behaviors and choices in life. Which makes him a fvkcing piece of shit. At the same time, I've always believed that with age comes wisdom, so WTF is wrong with his judgment? And, I give less leeway to someone who has resources to manage a bad situation than someone who does not. Hes a fvkcing stain. Ok, two quick things for you on this point: 1. Many/most that are from peoples native to America HATE being called "Native Americans," and prefer to be called, "Indian." Does that matter to you or not? 2. From my view, the red-faced mascot and imagery were off-the-chart racist. But, that org has been moving away from/phasing out that imagery and mascot. Does their awareness and sensitivity to this issue make a difference?
  2. Nah, it's fine. On top of drunky La Russa, you got (allegedly) Rapey Boston. This is perfect.
  3. Yeah, up to this point, I'd been supportive of taking a flier on Puig. But, I cant on the one hand want Boston to lose his fvkcing job, and on the other hand, still want Puig here. On top of this, I would ordinarily want to see how this lawsuit resolves itself before deciding on Puig, given its curious nature. (IOW, why not pursue this through the criminal process; it would seem the more logical venue, based on the accusations being leveled.) Also, there is no way the statute of limitations is up on this sort of allegation, so why not have LA County press charges? But, because a sentimental octogenarian just NEEDS to have a drunk for a manager, AND has an alleged sexual assailant as 1st base coach, I don't think this org can do this, even IF these accusations against Puig end up being untrue. And this is a shame, because I believe we should allow for 2nd chances. (In terms of Puig not having reached his potential with LAD.)
  4. When someone shows you who they are, you should believe them. Mitch McConnell has shown himself to be a lying piece of $hit, who cares not about the functioning of our system, so much as he can be a partisan turd. While I admire your enthusiasm, I prefer that McConnell be denied the chance to fück the system/our nation, as majority leader. Should the 2 GA runoff go for the dems, there are enough ACTUAL moderates, and Dem Sens in red/reddish states that can moderate the legislative agenda. Beyond Manchin, there are other Dem senators that have been more moderate than other Dems. But McConnell has lost his claim to any measure of honesty or respect through his actions.
  5. I have tried to help Greg, but I have failed. I've recommended the following to him: 1. Get off social media 2. Get off cable news TV 3. Get off political talk radio 4. Get a non-political book, and read it. 5. Get some exercise. 6. Get out and meet some people that are different than him. So far, there have been no results with Greg. But I admire you also trying to help him. Perhaps you, as a person who leans right, can give Greg the proper motivation.
  6. While I agree that there are branding issues, there also are reasons why self-described "socialists" have yet to win the nomination of a major political party.
  7. I dont know if we could test that or not. Have any self-identified "socialists" won nationwide electoral victories? At the same time, would there be absolutely no other crises to test the current president? If there would be other crises, I have no doubt Trump would have bungled the responses to those as well.
  8. Exactly. Sanders can win tiny Vermont, and AOC can win her tiny house district. But over a larger voting bloc, or nationwide, a wider appeal often helps to carry the day.
  9. Dude, that's all branding down there. If a party spent decades calling ALL candidates from the other party "socialists," then there is a fvkc-ton of voters that will believe that sh!t. And guess what? Thats exactly whats happened. A majority Americans, when polled, prefer a lot of more liberal positions. But when these positions are branded as "socialist," a lot of voters lose their sh!t over those same positions.
  10. Yeah, the far left somehow looks at the all-time highest vote totals for POTUS, and sez,"durr it shudda been more gooder if he was more ultraiberal." The reality is that this election drew more left-leaning voters than ever before, but it also drew more right-leaning voters than ever before as well.
  11. I think that should Biden win, he should nominate whomever he believes would be the best person for the cabinet position. I think that McConnell needs to do his job, and bring the nominees to the floor for a vote. That he already plans to block nominees reveals him to be a piece of shyte. It is equally important for Biden to nominate qualified candidates, as it is for McConnell to debate the nominees on his/her merits. Its the latter part, and McConnells intellectual dishonesty that would warrant him getting the middle finger. If/when that happens, due to McConnell being a dishonest piece of shyte, no one should b**** about it.
  12. Fair point about the length of time a justice is in service. Doesn't that make McConnell's bullshyte and lying to the American public MORE egregious? Also, no one that leans right had a word to say about Trump using the backdoor method of using the interim appointment. Did you hear of anyone raising a stink about it? Given McConnell's untrustworthiness, I wouldn't blame Biden if he bypassed McConnell the same way Trump bypassed the Senate as well.
  13. Yeah, Biden should be a sucker, and nominate "moderates," just like Obama should've nominated a "moderate" like Merrick Garland. I mean, after all, McConnell is such an honorable man, and would never go back on his word, right? How could it go wrong? I dont want to hear any McConnell apologists being whiny b!tches when Biden uses the same "interim" appointees that Trump used.
  14. First, I want to congratulate all on this thread for the general tone of civility. I think this can show how some iteration of the buster could be revived here. Second, I'm still holding my breath on election night. Despite the apparent leads Individual One holds right now, he pretty much has to run the table on these states that are outstanding. For VP Biden, it looks like there could be more remaining paths to win. This, despite the apparent deficits in the remaining states. I really don't know which situation I'd prefer, were I a candidate.
  15. Not that I doubt you guys, but do you have a link to that effect? I haven't seen that. Thanks.
  16. I'm disappointed in the tax amendment issue going down; most other states have a graduated income tax. Just seems to make sense to graduate it, to ease the burden on folks who aren't as well off.
  17. Ok, I'm sick of watching talking heads parrot the same thing over and over about "early vote, vs in person vote," so I thought I'd circle back to Kluber. On it's face, I'm against signing yet another geezing geezer to steal money at the end of his career. I'd prefer to sign Stroman as the big signing for this offseason. But, I have to admit that I envision Stroman as being the highest level FA that could be signed. So, what if Stroman signs elsewhere? I still think the right play is to absolutely sign Q. But for a second SP, a healthy Kluber could be a good choice as well. I have to underscore that I prefer to use the FA market in the offseason, and then either call up the younger SPs (perhaps a revived Kopech or Cease) midseason, OR trade for a TOR rental. For the either scenario, could a HEALTHY 35 year old Kluber get the SOX ~80IP of ~4.5 FIP to get to the trade deadline? I'd think so. So, were I TLR, I'd secure Q's signature FIRST, then try for Stroman, with Kluber as the fallback option. IOW, get the probable 170 IP of ~4 FIP SECURED. Then, either the long term play for Stroman, or the rotation band-aid of Kluber.
  18. People really need to stop watching cable "news." Especially the olds.
  19. Eh, I have a higher standard for someone like JR who has the benefit of a superior education, as well as 4 decades of experience in being asked questions by the media, as well as PR folks on staff who could/should have prepared him properly. The way he answered that question was moronic on his part. Especially for someone like him. That aside, it pretty much confirms that neither Bauer, nor any of the other expensive FA will be signed here.
  20. I think Stroman is about as aggressive as this org can or will get. Remember, while people were losing their lives, their jobs, and/or their businesses, JR saw fit to b**** about losing money. I admire your exuberance after the Machado deal and your decamping for Tennessee, though. NO ONE IS SAYING STROMAN IS A HIGHER IMACT STARTER!!!!! I think that posters who support his acquisition prefer to live in reality, rather than wasting their time dreaming about acquisitions that will never ever happen. Again, JR b****ed about losing money during a pandemic, and has NEVER signed a FA to a 9-figure contract. That aside, Stroman is a better acquisition because of at least the following: 1. The lower salary for Stroman, ehich enables other holes to be filled this offseason, this trade deadline, & in future offseasons/trade deadlines, 2. The opportunity for surplus value (@ $8MM/WAR, Stroman just has to average ~2WAR/YR to be worth it $17MM/YR; @ $32MM/YR, Bauer would have to average ~4WAR/YR) 3. Bauer will command more years, which will limit roster flexibility in the latter half of this competitive window, and 4. If Bauer doesn't work out, for WHATEVER reason, there are only a handful of teams that could/would take on a $32MM/YR contract; if Stroman doesn't work out, pretty much every other MLB team could take on $17MM/YR. To re-market Bauer later on will cost money and/or trade value, whereas the disposing of a smaller contract with surplus value could/would cost less. Which again, is why Bauer and Springer are pipe dreams and wastes of time to even think about. To those who insist on denying reality: Once again, JR b****ed about financial losses during a pandemic, which is still ongoing. And once again, this org has never signed a FA to a 9-figure contract. The pandemic makes it MORE likely that they wont break that streak in THIS offseason. YMMV.
  21. What's more, with this sort of offseason, you're saving all your trade ammo for the deadline, AND giving Cease/Kopech the time and space in AAA to sort their shit out.
  22. From that link: I'd take Stroman for 4/$68MM, and Pederson for 2/$18MM, Quintana for 2/$18MM, and either Hand for 2/$14MM, or Colome 1/$6MM, or both. Total added: $17MM + $9MM + $9MM + $6MM = $41MM added. (Edit) Back of the envelope, subtract EE's $12MM, Gonzalez's $7MM, and what, ~$5MM each to Rodon and Mazara is a total of ~$29MM in salaries not carried over? So, for ~$12MM in additional salaries, you're adding 300+ IP of 3-4 FIP, adding ~2-ish WAR in RF, and retaining your closer. That's a decent offseason, IMO. Springer for $125MM? From Reinsdorf? Dream on. Paxton/Boras and his cavalcade of injuries? No thanks.
  23. Were this team still in the assembly of young talent portion of the rebuild, the QO could be a deterrent. So, I suppose a team that isn't close to competing could be out of the bidding for Stroman. But, if the Great Nomar Mazara was (snicker) "worth" the former 46th pick, surely the ~55th pick is worth Marcus Stroman. That said, THIS LINK covers why Stroman would be a great pickup, given how good he is, and the reasonable acquisition cost he'd represent. Stroman's about to be 30. He's been away from the game for a year. LOOKING FORWARD, there may well be another work stoppage after 2021. Should that occur, OR should Stroman have an injury or a down year, he may not be able to cash in. Or, at best, he might have to face FA at age 32, when his age and his physical makeup will likely be more of an impediment. I wouldn't be so sure that Stroman would accept the QO, given his recent year off, his age, and the potential for him being out of work/unable to market himself.
  24. I can say that over a 60 game sprint, Abreu's game found another level than he had in the past. And I say this, not "just" at the dish, but hustling to beat out infield hits, defensively, and as a center of influence in the clubhouse. Whether or not he could have sustained such a level over 162 is subject to debate. But for the 60 game season that was this year, we all have to hand the MVP to him, IMO. I'm glad that he's a White Sox today. I also think it can be also fair to debate whether or not we'll be glad he's a White Sox by the end of his contract. Both can be true at the same time.
  25. I hear you, so I suppose it is "possible." But how can any of us have any confidence after watching Fulmer fail, Rodon fail, Lopez get worse every year since 2018, and now Cease get worse? Sure, Giolito appears to have "made it," but he seems to be more of the exception than the rule for this org.
