  1. Well, we've had to read about how awesome Engel and Mendick were going to be. All offseason, we had to read about how awesome Mazara was going to be. So, here's their time to shine and to carry this team to glory.
  2. Very well-thought-out and well written. However, I feel like we've seen this movie over and over and over and over ad nauseum. I feel like it's SSS, and when the year is over, he won't still be at his (currently punsustainable) wrc+ of 175. I feel like he'll be nestled back in the 70s or 80s, where he usually ends up. I also feel like this fan base falls all over themselves to keep hoping that the grindy guy finally figures it out. Color me dubious, but YMMV. Carry on, then.
  3. Don't you mean "Renteria is truly an awful strategic manager" when you question his lineup against a tough divisional opponent and coming off two ugly losses? Being a truly awful tactical manager would be Renteria failing to have anyone up in the BP while Gio has to face the opposing lineup a 3rd time. Or Renteria bunting, like ever within an individual game. Or Renteria never, ever putting runners in motion, despite having a few speedy options in the roster. Now that I think about it, Renteria IS a truly awful tactical manager. But I also think he's a truly awful strategic manager. Also, where is the bench coach to save Renteria from Renteria's stupidity? As I've been saying for years, they just need to fire everyone in the coaching staff, because they all suck out loud at their jobs.
  4. So, from this list: https://www.mlb.com/news/2020-mlb-free-agents-by-position Any interest in: Cashner, or uh..... Jason Vargas, or I dunno, Ervin Santana to replace Rodon? Or maybe Coop can fix Matt Harvey?
  5. If this link is any indication of how its gone so far, a change away from eating out can be in place for awhile: https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-07-20/us-could-face-double-dip-recession-unless-r-goes-below-1?sref=2o0rZsF1&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_content=view&utm_campaign=socialflow-organic&cmpid%3D=socialflow-twitter-view It could/should be a good change for some, but dining establishments are a decent part of the US economy. People not dining out can screw quite a few families, unfortunately. We've got to turn this around, and soon.
  6. Meh, neither Leury nor Mendick are good, but neither Leury nor Mendick are underperforming as pitchers. At the same time, it wasn't exactly like Madrigal was scorching line drives in every PA, stealing bases like henderson, and throwing leather around like Morgan during summer camp. This team is 2-4 [roughly translated to 5-11 in a 162 game season] because the pitching has been disappointing so far. I doubt that Madrigal would have single-handedly reversed this record were he here instead of Schaumburg.
  7. While I think the critique of Manfred is warranted, the utter lack of effort on the part of players to mask up and socially distance should also point fingers at the PA as well, IMO. If the players are going to consume the finite resources of tests and testing facilities, it should follow that they should make some sort of effort to avoid spreading the virus. Also, when I see that at least 2 White Sox players have tested positive, AND that RR needed a test, one would expect that the SOX would take this seriously. But no, you see them congregating together in the dugout, right on top of each other. You see unmasked faces, and celebrations in close quarters. To me, it shows stupid and weak and ignorant "leadership" on the part of the FO, the coaches, and the veterans in this team. Smart teams know that one ability is availability. Dumb teams leave availability to chance. In a pandemic, I wonder when these dumbasses in the SOX org are going to wake the fvkc up and take this seriously. TL,DR: Manfred should be criticized, but so should the MLBPA, the individual players, and weak leadership from individual teams, IMO.
  8. None of them are good options for extended exposures. They're all AAAA types or bench fodder. Rather than falling head over heels for these types, this team would be better without all of them polluting the lineup and in the field. And some games will continue to be lost by Leury's or Mendick's or Mazara's gloves, or by Engel's or Delmonico's bats. The bigger issue (to me, anyway) are Renteria's lineups and bullpen use. IMO, putting Giolito and McCann into the best positions to succeed > choosing which AAAA type to deploy on a given day.
  9. Meh. I seem to recall Mendick had a shitty defensive game the other day as well. He's not exactly a gold glover, either. Like Leury, he's probably either a barely-cromulent utility player, or a AAAA type. I'm ambivalent about the 2B role at the moment. Once this roster is purged of most of these types (Mendick, Delmonico, Engel, Leury possibly Mazara), we should be in position to compete.
  10. This. Exactly this. I've hated Renteria's lineups for how substandard they've been throughout his tenure here. Finding advantageous matches to maximize whatever talent you have is essential for a manager.
  11. Here, let's lighten the mood: https://sports.theonion.com/cubs-install-cardboard-cutouts-of-fans-pissing-all-over-1844491563 It's one game, and I get that this is a short season. I'll hold off until tomorrow before I start calling for the firing of every last one of the motherfvkcers in the coaching staff.
  12. Ok, so I was wrong: not 1,000 cases, but rather, 1,187. We're heading the wrong way.
  13. This is exactly why I'm not as amped up about today's promising numbers. Wednesday could tell us more. If this week's new case curve follows last week's, we could see ~1,000 cases tomorrow. And then, upwards to ~1,500 or more by Friday. Which would be depressing. [I sincerely hope I'll be wrong, and everyone here can dunk on me for being overly-concerned.] Given that Illinois is surrounded by states that haven't tested enough [relative to their population], and states that don't appear to have taken this seriously, I'm still concerned. We'd gone up to Lake Geneva 2 weekends ago to try to have lunch at Popeye's. When we got there, masks were EXTREMELY optional, and servers were leaving their noses uncovered. Of course, Popeye's was closed, due to COVID among their workers. If this is any indication of how the rest of Wisconsin or Indiana are approaching this thing, I worry about what this will do to us here. As always, YMMV.
  14. Greg, based on your posts on this subject over the past few months, you of all people should have come to the realization that people need rules, or they'll act like fvkcing savages. [See: sh!thole red states that had MONTHS to prepare, then those same fvkcing mooks still render mask-wearing as political. Like texasastan and flori-duh. Or even you, a few months ago.] What's more, your stupid supposition that Kansas' government deemed your barber "the enemy" is so stupid that it insults the stupid. Fvkcing think about it: The BARBER isn't the enemy. It's the ACTIVITY of being indoors, in close proximity, for anywhere from 5-15 minutes at a time, that could pose a threat to people. [IOW, by supplying the requisite viral load to pass on illnesses.] For fvkc's sake, turn off fvkcing fox "news," and pick up a book.
  15. Isn't the CDC part of the deep state? Isn't everything that isn't nice to the president part of a conspiracy? (Getting those questions in BEFORE Greg reports it from his hours of watching fox "news.")
  16. I wouldn't spike the football just yet. While it's nice to see a lower new case #, it's still a higher # than a week ago. I'll breathe a sigh of relief if the #s tomorrow look promising.
  17. Yeah, a lot of Americans are weak and trivial. You hear the childish and weak "You're not the boss of me" complaints over and over. Other, smarter nations listen to experts and put the masks on, and they've beaten back the virus. Their reward? They get their sports and their restaurants and other things people like back sooner. And then there's this whole politicization of science, where some mouthbreathing monkey morons from the right think that rhetoric can defeat a virus, or that global warming is a fukcing hoax. In sum? We have a nation with lot of mentally weak freedom freeloaders who never served their nation, being led by an imbecile who is weak and childish. As a veteran, I think we really need a fvkcing draft. This nation's response to COVID would be as if: 1. You took George Steinbrenner's budget for an MLB team, then 2.Hired Terry Bevington and Robin Ventura to manage and coach the team, then 3. Stupidly wonder why that team only wins 68 games.
  18. Some of you must have sore backs carrying water for the owners. There is so much supposition on this thread, without having any facts in evidence. We all want to have MLB on TV this year. But I can't feature the socialization of losses for a group of @ssh0les that have all the advantages that MLB owners have. Carry on, then...
  19. Rather than "come at you" with suggestions, I thought I'd pick your brain, if you'd endulge me. 1. What did you think of the incident that caused George Floyd's death? 2. As a LE officer, do you think that excessive force incidents are too prevalent in the US? (Particularly with respect to certain groups?) 3. As a LE Officer, do you believe that there is room for changes in that industry? Why or why not? I make no suppositions about you nor any judgements; I'm just interested in your view.
  20. Quick question for you, Caulfield: Where do you fall on the political spectrum? Are you a Bernie Bro, Center-left, Cemter-Right, or a fox news kool-ader? (Once you answer that, THEN feel free to comment on the following.) You are a good poster, with much to add here. But your suppositions about the VP pick, particularly vis a vis Warren are YOUR opinions posed as fact. You seem to be able to cite links for everything except your opinion on the VP pick. (You strangely have no links when you pimp Warren's chances, yet you have links for everything else you post.) Warren would be a craptastic and moronic pick for Biden, IMO. For a variety of reasons, she would be terrible. For as much as you (and others) b**** about Biden's self-pwnage over the past few days, so too has Warren self-pwned herself as well. That said, this crisis means we need a fvkxing grownup to fvkxing run this country. We're reopening this country, yet I think scant attention is paid to how to prevent a recurrence of outbreaks.
  21. Holy fucking shit. So, Harris having won statewide office in a state that's bigger than most countries doesnt count as qualified? Having won a Senate seat from that same state doesnt count as qualified? Having been a major party candidate for POTUS doesnt count as "qualified?" Greg, i understand that you, like all of us have PREFERENCES. Your preferences =/= "qualified." (I keep expecting more from greg, but I keep ending up disappointed.)
  22. I keep falling for your shitposting and trolling, but I'll bite: Exactly what stupid shit did you watch on Fox that convinced you that Harris is not qualified? Also, what do you consider to be "qualified?" I'm eager to read what you come up with.
  23. Greg, I dont want to pick on you. But once again, you're full of shit. First, I've worked with Alzheimers patients in a previous career. Biden does not have any of the behaviors of someone with Alzheimers. It is impossibly moronic on your part to associate Biden with Alzheimers. It is also incredibly insensitive to families that have an Alzheimers sufferer in their family. Second, Biden has been a gaffe machine. Partly because of his history with a stammer. We have had previous gaffe machines as president; Bush the younger comes immediately to mind. There is nothing about Bidens gaffes that are more alarming than others who have held this office. So, once again, I'm not picking on you greg. But, once again, you're completely talking out of your asshole, and you would be better to stfu on this.
  24. Without trivializing the cruelty of rape, could it be that the ever-changing nature of the accusation, coupled with an abject lack of corroborating accusers means that that accusation is BS? Hell, the NYT, who made as much hay as possible out of Clinton's emails, reviewed the allegation, and found no evidence of sexual misconduct. Ronan Farrow looked into this, and found nothing. The Me Too folks have found nothing. And, the dirty-digging machinery of #45 decided that an impeachable Ukrainian allegation was a better bet than this allegation. On balance, I'd say that this allegation seems to be BS. I'm open to have my mind changed, but this one hasn't passed muster as yet.
  25. I could be inclined to agree with you, IF this is what occurred with Greg. Instead, his "fee-fees" hurted him, so it's a fucking sacrifice, right? Wrong. Being uncomfortable AINT a fucking sacrifice. Sorry.
