QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 26, 2016 -> 06:51 PM) I guess though it's kind of grim for most Chicago sports fans unless you are a Cub fan or a BLackhawks fan. Well, most people like at least 1, so...

QUOTE (balfanman @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) That's all well and good but it isn't very smart in my opinion. The thing you're missing the point on is that the teams really don't care about getting games 2 and 3 in. Those can always be made up another time at the same ticket prices. Opening Day, people spend 3-4 times to go to. The off day the day after protects the team from having to possibly offer fans credit on very expensive tickets.

I couldn't bring myself to root for the Cubs with my mother on her death bed last year. No way in hell I'm doing it now.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:29 AM) because niu doesn't project a sellout. ISFA said they anticipated 30,000. They won't sniff that at current prices. -

Blows my mind that this is cheaper than the friggen NIU game. I know it's 2 different groups running these events, but feel like they could've gotten more for this than they did. Festival goers have no issue dropping a lot more than $50 after fees even for bad views. -

This thing isn't going to come close to selling out at $45 per upstairs. I'll wait for the inevitable Groupon to offer them for $20. -

Did anyone get the Black List code? Didn't see it in my Inbox. -
QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 24, 2016 -> 08:24 PM) Yep, Sale has been fantastic and I am a huge fan. But, I honestly don't think Arrieta will ever get lit up this season like Sale did tonight. Arrieta will wait til the playoffs.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2016 -> 04:14 PM) I have yet to see Joe Maddon asked about the White Sox, nor have I seen Jake Arrieta asked about Chris Sale. Even if this were going on, it would legitimize this a little bit more in my eyes. Then look harder. My off day boredom has led to me looking ahead with the pitchers. With Sale going on Thursday, is he closing out the DH Monday on 3 days rest? Gotta assume so.

Correct, and MeTV is also owned by Weigel, it is The U's sister station.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 9, 2016 -> 11:27 AM) Things I don't care about: carrying water for the rebranding of the U There wasn't a rebranding. The games moved! WGN was buying time on WCIU, Channel 26. A Weigel Broadcasting Station. WGN NOW buys time on WPWR, Channel 50, a FOX Television Station.

My buddy and I were getting harassed pretty hard by a Cubs fan in the UD last year. I asked, "Hey, are you a Bears fan" "Yea" "Good, we get to suffer together soon" He shut up after that.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) I wonder if we should scratch Sale tonight. Seems like pitching him here is a waste when he's not needed to win. Pitch Danks against Hill and let him pad his record for trade value. Than come back with Sale later in the series when he might be needed to get a win. This...uh...isn't how baseball works. Danks just pitched on Saturday, FFS.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 3, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) I have to say that while I love Little Caesar's Crazy Bread and Italian Cheese Bread, their pizza is pure garbage, it tastes bland and not fresh at the same. If you can have pizza that is uninspired, that would be it. I'd rather have a Jack's frozen pizza. Freschetta's rising crust or whatever it's called is actually fantastic, as frozen pizzas go. For me the key to LC is to get him home and throw it in the oven for 5 minutes. Way better with a crispy crust and hotter cheese.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 3, 2016 -> 10:00 AM) Which makes me wonder why they couldn't move Opening Day to Sunday (today-for everyone). Then if some teams want the built-in off day on Monday, then that's fine. There really is no good reason not to do it today, and then teams have a couple early off days in case the weather is bad. Because this sport is stuck in the past and likes to keep up meaningless traditions. Every team starting on a Sunday makes too much sense for it to ever happen.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Sox-A's at 9pm central, while Cubs-Angels, and the NCAA championship are going on...this could be the least watched opening day game ever. (I may be exaggerating.) Won't be any worse than a 1 o'clock game on a work day.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) Was it 3 years or so ago when they were serving digornos at the park? That was insane. Best pizza city in the world and they serve that s***? With so many awesome local pizza franchises in Chicago, I never understood why they didn't get some big name in there. Beggars is cool to offer. Lou malnatis Gino's Giordanos Connies Nancy's Taylor St. Rosatis Aurilios Etc They had Connies for years. Digrono must've put together a really good bid. Think the UC is still that.
-
40% doesn't seem like such a good deal when all those listed teams were doing 50% for 5 runs scored. Guess this replaces the league's deal with Domino's, where they gave away free pizzas for no-hitters.

The original is better.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 24, 2016 -> 08:37 AM) If Forbes is to be believed, the team made $20 million last year, despite a bad year, low ratings, low attendance, cheap tickets, stretching the payroll... It doesn't appear the franchise is doomed or looking to move out of their sweetheart deal anytime soon. Uh...why would ratings have any effect on revenue? They're collecting their rights fees no matter what.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 07:40 PM) Forbes still uses slideshows? Do those valuations include the cost of the ballpark? Or does it depend who owns it? As you can probably tell, some of the most valuable teams own their parks (Yankees, Boston, Cubs, Dodgers). If a team were to be sold, the park would be part of the deal, as we've seen very recently with the Cubs & Dodgers. For most, it would just be the operational rights to the park.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Never trust a man with two first names. Sox should take a hard pass on Jay Bruce. EDIT: wait.... Frank Thomas. Nevermind. That Duncan Keith guy ain't so bad either.
