  1. It's too bad that Shields put us in such a huge hole.
  2. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) If you've followed him since he was drafted you'd know he struggles each time he moves up a level for a short time. This was to be expected. Then what in the hell is he doing in the leadoff spot?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Anderson as leadoff hitter is just stupid Most managers bat rookies towards the bottom of the lineup to take pressure off of them. I don't understand Robin's logic.
  4. I'm wondering if the Padres would be willing to deal Jon Jay for a prospect price that the Sox could afford. I don't think that they could afford Reddick or Bruce. Jay would be a solution to the #2 spot and would allow the offensively challenged Ajax to be a fourth outfielder.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) Around the fence OF can look real silly, especially if they aren't so good out there to begin with. Looking silly and not making plays are two different things. I don't think that an above-average RF would've caught that ball.
  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) Did our scouts watch Shields at all? Nobody from Soxtalk scouted him, and many of us were able to predict that he would struggle in a hitter's park in the AL.
  7. As bad as Avi looks out there, he's not the one serving up meatballs that are getting crushed to the back of the warning track.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:16 PM) Abreu is definitely back. We missed you buddy I sure hope so. This team can't score enough runs to consistently win without the 2014-2015 Abreu.
  9. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) I'd love to see Kenny manage the team. It'd be worth the price of admission to see Kenny take Sale out of a game.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:11 PM) Seriously. Let him be his own long reliever tonight. Absolutely. Given that the game is pretty much over, there's no reason to tax bullpen arms.
  11. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) I've been locked in this prison for 6 weeks now. One good month of baseball means nothing. This is a bad baseball team that is sorely lacking in talent. I'm actually watching the the game with a foreign friend and he is very confused. I have to explain to him that, yes, the Sox are at the same level as the other team. He says the players on the other team are so much better that it doesn't seem fair lol. Then stop watching and go do something else.
  12. OMG, Shields can't field either. Please put him on the 15-day DL.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) 3 divisional teams are just better than the Sox. Recipe for a lot of losses. They're better, but not by a mile. But I do agree with your overall point that a losing divisional record will kill one's playoff hopes.
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) Surely you jest. They got lucky with some wins over Minny and Oakland before they came apart like a 29 cent mop. Yeah, it took a ton of luck for them to sweep the 19-43 Twins.
  15. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 08:01 PM) talented team? Please give me some of whatever you are smoking or drinking man! It would be more clear if you stopped being a prisoner of the moment and looked at the career averages of the players who are currently not playing well.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) 85 seems very optimistic. Only if you expect the entire bullpen to continue sucking and for Abreu to never hit again.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) Are there people here who still think we have a chance this season? I do. I wouldn't bet my house on it, but this is a talented team that had the best record in the AL in early May. Throw in the fact that the Royals aren't world-beaters anymore and DET and CLE are good-but-not-great, and I could see the Sox getting hot, winning 92 games and eeking out a division win. That said, I stand by my original prediction of 85 wins and no playoffs.
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) I'm starting to believe that. I didn't watch him pitch at all. I thought eh why not? Didn't think he'd be worse than Erik Johnson. All of the signs for Shields failing in a hitter's park in the AL were there. And I consider Hahn to be as measured and rational as they come. Trading for Shields just doesn't fit that personality profile. So either Hahn is desperate to save his job, or somebody else was responsible for the trade. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) And that's why he needs to go. He can't develop a winner on the field and the farm system is a disaster The farm system is more Kenny's fault than Hahn's. It's actually improved under Hahn.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) This is unreal. On what planet did the front office think Shields would pitch well here The only rationalization that I can think of is that Hahn thinks that his job is not safe and he's reaching.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Jordan BastianVerified account ‏@MLBastian Juan Uribe (testicular contusion) said no BP today. Asked why he doesn't use a cup, he said: "I don't think the trainers have my size." Oh.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) I really hate that he is the only owner since 1920 to win a world series. If people only read the Comiskey biography. JR is a saint and a great boss compared to him. I know a couple of JR's former employees and they've both said nice things about him while being under no obligation to do so.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) It has to be hell playing for the White Sox right now with their record the last month or so. Or maybe Rollins really likes playing professional baseball and doesn't freak out like you do when his team goes from first place to .500 ball 1/3 of the way into the season. Get a grip.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 11:17 PM) I bet deep down Rollins was glad to get released. Had to be the worst experience of his baseball career I'd think playing with this woe-begone team. This has to be one of the worst hitting team in Sox history. It's like the 60s when the mound was lower. The fact that Rollins was still playing at age 37, with tens of millions in the bank and a WS ring on his finger, strongly implies that he really enjoys playing baseball. I seriously doubt that he wanted to be released.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) Here's hoping the injuries to Jackson and Petricka are not used as an excuse...because, as we've highlighted MANY times, the other teams in the division have had much WORSE hardship to deal with than the White Sox. By far. Yep, the Sox stayed mostly healthy last season and still managed to underwhelm.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) Anderson or Saladino to CF? I read speculation that the Sox had considered moving Anderson to CF a while ago. Not sure if he got any reps there, though.
