  1. Anderson would (probably) be a defensive upgrade over Rollins, but a defensive downgrade from Saladino. And I'm not convinced that he would hit that much better than either of them. Given that and the fact that Anderson's probably not ready, I don't see the point.
  2. QUOTE (Vance Law @ May 26, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Yankees are only a game under .500. Astros are 9 under. A's are 8. Angels are 5. Cincy, Padres, Minny, Brewers, Braves. Those are likelier trading partners. Rasmus is a lefty outfielder who would seemingly be available. I would definitely target Rasmus. Wouldn't the Astros lose a comp pick if they traded Rasmus? If so, they may want a Top 100 prospect in return, and I'm not sure if the Sox would be willing to deliver that. I'm sure that the Sox aren't the only team that'd be interested in Rasmus.
  3. Outside of batting Rollins second, RV has done little to contribute to this team's sucktitude over the past couple of weeks.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 25, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) His base running? Well that's a different matter isn't it? LOL. Mark Yeah, getting picked off of first twice this early into the season is pretty bad.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 25, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) Why Garcia is not in AAA, he has options, to play outfield and try to figure things out is beyond me. Because the Sox arguably don't have a better DH option right now, and because Avi was hitting well in late April and early May.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 24, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) It depends on who it's for. Ervin Santana's, Jay Bruce's and Carlos Beltran's don't bring back Fulmer or Anderson. The Sox have made trades for years with a "bad" farm system. Now they actually have some guys in the lower minors. I think Engel and Adams are probably the pieces. We aren't talking about getting Sonny Gray or Aroldis Chapman here. People act like they'd have to include Anderson to acquire anyone. It's nonsense. Again, why would the Yankees, who have a talented team, are playing .500 ball, and have more money than God be interested in giving us fair trade value for Beltran? Beltran is currently posting an .822 OPS and would only save the Yankees $12M or so. That's peanuts for a team carrying a $214M payroll. If the Sox wanted Beltran, they'd have to overwhelm the Yankees to the point where they couldn't say no. Comparing Beltran's current trade value to that of Bruce and Santana is also silly. The latter two play for bad teams in small markets, and both franchises have strong incentive to dump salary. Santana is also under contract through 2018 and is owed way more money than the other two. The Sox would have to give up a better minor league package for Beltran than Bruce. The Sox could probably get Santana for a bag of Big League Chew if they agreed to take on all of his remaining contract.
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ May 24, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) Beltran wouldnt cost anything approaching Anderson or Fulmer Yes, but the Sox don't have a lesser player in their system who is good enough to make a deal for Beltran worth it to the Yankees. The Yankees are a competitive team and aren't hurting for money, so what incentive do they have to trade him? Realistically, the Sox are going to have to make deals for players with big contracts on bad teams that are looking to move salary off the books. That would include guys like Bruce, Markakis, Shields, Ervin Santana, etc.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 24, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Beltran should be an option for the White Sox. QUOTE (Special K @ May 24, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) I think Texeira should also be on Sox radar. What makes you think that the Yankees aren't trying to compete this season? They're a .500 team and are only 5.5 games back. Teixeira is having a terrible year. Beltran would be the guy to go after but, again, the Yankees don't really look like sellers right now and the Sox don't have anything to offer in return besides Anderson and Fulmer.
  9. QUOTE (The Critic @ May 22, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) Robertson didn't throw one pitch that made it to Avila on the fly after the injury visit. Hope he's okay. Yeah, I noticed that as well. Looked like four straight breaking balls into the dirt. That didn't seem intentional to me. If there's something wrong with him, we'll hear about it soon.
  10. The Sox drew over 34,500 today. I realize it was Family Sunday with reduced ticket and parking prices and all, but that's still a pretty good sign. Attendance is usually 25,000 or so for the typical mediocre Sox team on a nice day in late May. Being in first place certainly helps.
  11. MLB needs to get rid of these maple bats. Somebody's going to lose an eye at some point.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 19, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) I think Melky would be fine for it if we traded for a middle of the order bat but I wouldn't change a thing about Melky right now so a #2 hitter in a trade would be ideal. Robin may have to move Melky back to the 2-hole and rely on Lawrie to give Frazier protection. We don't have much left to trade and we need a #4 starter more than another bat right now.
  13. This lineup has looked like sh*t for the past week.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 19, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) For the love of god, don't strand him this time. Yep. Horrible at-bats by Sanchez and Abreu.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) Is Ozzie still being paid by Marlins? He belongs in a MLB dugout as a bench coach or manager. How bout Fredi Gonzalez who everybody thought was so great? Fired. Ozzie has baseball in his blood. Once Marlins stop paying him he can join a team in some capacity. We know Ozzie loves money. You need to understand that the 2016 incarnation of Ozzie isn't the same guy as the 2004-2008 Ozzie. I recall reading somewhere (maybe here) that Ozzie was fired by the Marlins because he basically lost interest in the job and that Joey Cora was handling his managerial duties. Combine that with his drinking problem and his alienation of former employers, and it's going to be very tough for Ozzie to work as an MLB manager or coach again.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 19, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) As much as I'd like to get another masher to complement Abreu and Fraz, I think getting a pitcher is a bigger need at the moment. I absolutely agree with this. The Sox gambled by relying on Latos and suffered some bad luck with Danks' velocity drop-off. Relying on Latos and Miguel Gonzalez going forward may cost them a shot at the playoffs.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) It was mentioned repeatedly that his erratic behavior was probably the result of being an alcoholic. He's pretty much admitted that he's an alcoholic... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1135904...ght-on-the-road
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) In the back of my mind, I feel like Kenny really wanted to hire Cito Gaston, and that Guillen was a Reinsdorf thing. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) I think robin was a reinsdorf thing also. Agree on both counts. Ozzie needs to get help.
  19. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) Joe and Jane average fan only watch 20% of games anyway. Joe and Jane didn't watch WGN Cubs games because Joe and Jane have jobs. I get it, you don't like the Cubs. That's fine. They're the third most popular team in baseball year in and year out and they're likely to only get bigger regardless of any of your made up scenarios. If the Cubs continue to be good, fans will find them. I could give a crap about the Cubs, but please stop living up to the mantra that Sox fans only care about Cubs failing. It's still not a good look for you. That's an interesting use of straw man arguments, but they have no basis in reality. I don't care much about the Cubs. Your argument that their recent and future lack free advertising via WGN will not affect their casual fan base across the country is silly. Of course it will, and very few casual fans are going to all pay for MLB.TV to watch a small percentage of games.
  20. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 17, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) Games are more accessible than ever for out of market teams. Heck, it's easier for me to watch the Cubs and White Sox than it is to watch my local franchises in some situations. The Cubs Network is more likely to be more complicated for Chicagoans than for those outside of Chicago. MLB.tv solves all those problems. MLB.tv is a better overall experience than the local cable broadcasts. Joe and Jane Average Fan aren't going to pay for MLB.TV. MLB.TV also has lots of feed problems and, outside of its replay capability, is inferior to a standard TV broadcast. Don't automatically assume that the Cubs' national popularity trajection will remain the same indefinitely. They're no longer getting free airtime on standard cable/satellite packages, and that's going to make a huge difference. And we haven't even begun to consider how the growing popularity of soccer will affect baseball's popularity over the next few decades.
  21. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 17, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) The Cubs will be as popular under their own banner network as they have ever been. You can take that to the bank. Around Chicago, yes. Nationally, I doubt it. The Cubs being televised nationally on WGN, like the Braves being televised nationally on TBS, gave them a large nation-wide following. Since this is no longer true in either case, I don't see how either team is going to maintain a national following like that with the next generation of fans.
  22. I wonder if he's been nursing a nagging injury.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Players that should be moved and bring the most value back are Huston Street, Kole Calhoun, and Hector Santiago. July 2015: Yoenis Cespedes from DET to NYM for 2 of Met's top 15 prospects. This is a decent comparison for Calhoun because they are both power hitting OF's that play great defense but in our situation Calhoun holds higher value because he's a lefty with an extra year of control. He will easily net 3 top prospects and those 3 players would immediately become our top 3 prospects (lol). Just goes to show how far off teams' fans and opposing teams' fans are about trade value/s for a player...that said, Huston Street might be the more interesting option to supplement our bullpen. Calhoun's going to be too expensive on the prospect front...and their need for Anderson is somewhat mitigated by the presence of Simmons (granted, he's injured currently). We need a starter, not a closer.
  24. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ May 12, 2016 -> 07:32 PM) I want Reddick. Realistic, shouldn't cost a ton as an impending FA, very good player with a solid glove. Except that multiple teams will be trying to outbid one another for him, which means that the winner will likely overpay. The winner will also receive a comp pick for next year, after Reddick departs as a free agent in the winter. So, I'd imagine that Reddick would cost at least a late first-round prospect or a semi-decent ML-ready player (and possibly more than that).
  25. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ May 12, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Yes, I hear Soler has been struggling a bit but I don't watch any cub games. As far as Avi, perhaps his trade value would be greater if he could play first base reasonably well. As a DH, his trade value is limited unless he rakes against both LH and RH pitching and can hit somewhere around 25 home runs. Given that RF requires way more athleticism than 1B, I'm sure that Avi could learn to play 1B reasonably well. Even Frank was semi-decent at 1B.
