  1. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) Avi won't be playing baseball at 28. Not in the MLB anyways. Maybe, maybe not. The Sox apparently believe that he will, as they've had ample opportunity to include him in trade packages but have chosen to not do so.
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 11, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) Especially KNOWING he just led off Lawrie with a breaking ball strike. I COME ON THINK. Avi just seems like a low baseball IQ player. He should have been taking all the way there unless it was dead red outside fastball that he can drive. I'm willing to give Avi some slack because he's still young. If he's still doing this when he's 28, then probably not.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Saladino had an awful season last year at the plate, and Rollins also had a great spring training. This team is better with Tyler able to fill in all over the infield instead of Jimmy Rollins or Carlos Sanchez. I agree with this. If Rollins is healthy, I like him offensively more than the the two in-house options. If Rollins struggles offensively, I'd expect to see Anderson called up.
  4. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 03:39 PM) There's quite a gulf between "Chris Sale" and "5 runs in 2 innings".. to be fair Danks has settled down. The problem this offense is going to score more than 5 runs very rarely this year. The Sox are gonna have to win games by holding teams to low scores, not by scoring a lot themselves. So did you actually expect Danks to out-pitch Salazar today? If not, why is this outcome such as disappointment?
  5. Danks has several games like this every year. He also has several quality starts per year. That's why he's a #5. Yet, many folks here seem to think that he's supposed to pitch like Sale just because it's Opening Day.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) I'd tell everyone to take until they get a strike. He has no control. Yep
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) People are mainly just pissed because it is the home opener and Danks is pitching. If this were the 43rd game of the season it wouldn't be as big of a deal Yeah, and those people need to understand the concept of small sample sizes.
  8. QUOTE (wizeguy57 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) Danks needs to officially be on the clock. One more awful start like this and it's time for 5th starter auditions to begin. I don't care about his fing contract if he is going to be a sure loss every 5 games. Seriously? Danks has multiple starts like this every year. That's why he's a #5.
  9. Sadly, Robin isn't the kind of guy who will bench Avi for something that stupid.
  10. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 02:58 PM) Please stop with the excuses. Even if we lived in the world of "Danks should have ended the 1st with one run, he still gave up two this inning when he should have done hos job and settled down He's wetting the bed in front of a sellout crowd. Terrible performance. Yep, Danks has basically been responsible for three runs over two innings so far. He needs to get his act together as well.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 06:04 AM) He was good when he was Don Drysdale's color man. He's just not a PBP guy. I'd say that he made a halfway decent transition. Stoney is the guy who I just couldn't see doing PBP.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) I didn't follow ST as close this season. Just a dumb mistake that cost us 2 more runs than they should've gotten. With how the sox have been lately I fully expect a 6-0 loss today lol With Salazar pitching and the cold weather, overcoming the 3-0 deficit will not be easy.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Why is everyone s***ting on Danks? He should be out of the inning with only 1 earned run, the defense screwed him there. And the ump on that ball four call, as well.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) I still don't get what Avila was thinking as a veteran catcher He did something similarly dumb in Arizona a couple of weeks ago.
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) ok i am willing to get flamed here. but i like sand, i like him over avi... i would acknowledge wanting loney over avit hell i would like murph over avi. Avi is nothing better than iffy, so there's no need for flaming.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 05:00 PM) I'd take Loney over Sands in a heartbeat. If nothing else, he could hit in the second spot in the order and play solid defense. He has a solid OBP that would be nice behind Eaton and in front of Abreu/Frazier/Cabrera. Yep. I have no idea why Sands is on the 25-man roster.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 7, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) I agree, but if you have a team like ours with low obp and low power, it was going to be difficult to make improvements in both especiallya fter we weren't going to sign the top tier players. In that case, I'd prioritize improving power before OBP, as it seems to naturally get better when there's a real threat of power anyway. It may be cheaper and more feasible to sign OBP at this point, though. Loney, for example. It's not like the Sox have a ton of highly ranked prospects that they're willing to part with in a trade.
