  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) I just think it is bad to change the policy in the middle of spring training. You gave the kid a locker and a uniform, now you say he can't come in? Unless he did something dreadful, that seems to me to be a bit petty, and using the kid to try to punish or whatever to LaRoche is weak. From the articles I linked, the kid is supposed to be a real good kid who knew his place, and he wasn't in the clubhouse and on the field all the time. He was limited. Lots of new people in the clubhouse this year. It could be that some of them didn't like having a 14-year-old around constantly. I don't blame them.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) David Haugh 4 mins · Twitter · If Adam LaRoche indeed retired from ‪#‎WhiteSox‬ cuz team said he couldn't have teenage son around anymore, he was looking for reason to leave. Bingo
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) LOL Why does his kid deserve special treatment? This is the stupidest thing imaginable. Especially after his dad got paid $12M to put up a 78 OPS+ and a -0.8 bWAR.
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Look at the replies to the Rosenthal tweet, the majority are siding with LaRoche and calling the Sox "cold-blooded". Unbelievable. We live in an unbelievably dumb country, so it's totally believable to me.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) Yep. I teach Junior High. This workplace environment would be awesome without kids around.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) I wouldn't want a kid in the clubhouse if I were a ML player. If I'm in a room of adults, I'm gonna talk and swear like one. I don't want kids around to hear that or for them to be around to restrict me from expressing myself. Yep. Even in a traditional workplace, without all of the swearing and naked dudes walking around, I wouldn't want kids there either. It's distracting.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) That doesn't make much sense either. One article I read said his kid has his own stall in the clubhouse this year. Why would they kick him out now? I can see a no kids rule, but I really don't think he would walk away from a profession because of this. Lots of new people on the team this year. I'd guess that other players probably wanted clubhouse access and a stall for their own kids as well. Or perhaps no kids at all in the clubhouse. I respect the fact that LaRoche is a family-oriented guy, but a major-league clubhouse really isn't a place for kids. And if he had a big problem with that (which I'm very skeptical of in the first place), then too bad.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) ummmm that does sound very intriguing and something the sox have done as many other teams i am sure have done. Teams do that with the 15-day DL all the time, but I imagine that multiple repeats on the DL would attract some attention. I would guess that there's some oversight from the league and/or the union, but I honestly don't know.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) I recall Rick saying he sat down in AL for a coulple hours and tried to understand his decision but that his mind was just made up. Just doesn't seem likely. Now maybe the Sox told him that he's gonna sit on the bench the whole season, and he didn't want to do that, but I also find that a little hard to believe since he has a pretty clear role (assuming he isn't seriously injured). It seems more likely to me that the Sox would DFA him and eat the $13M before they would use a roster spot on an indefinite benching. Of course, they could always try to put him on the DL indefinitely, but I imagine that they would've had to prove that he's too injured to play at some point.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 04:01 PM) You aren't kidding! It's not just this board either. Fans boo'd Avi at SoxFest and if LaRoche indeed retires, all eyes will be on Avi more than anyone else. Given LaRoche's salary, he was way more deserving of the booing. (And even then, only meatballs boo players at such events.)
  11. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Now is there any way he convinces Danks to do the same? Sadly, we need Danks this season.
  12. Morneau's level of hatred for the Sox is typically reserved for a player who has been DFA'd or dragged through the mud in arbitration. Which is to say that his visceral hatred for the Sox makes no freaking sense.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) I kind of doubt the Sox were offering something like that. Yeah, Reinsdorf isn't the kind of guy who's going to give somebody $10M to sit at home. Unless there's something in LaRoche's contract or the CBA that stipulates a specific buyout amount, I'd see the Sox offering him more like $3M for staying in shape this off-season and showing up to ST.
  14. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 02:32 PM) Please don't let this lead to Jay freaking Bruce. He's the prime candidate to, eh, beat?, be worse than?, the atrocity that was Adam Dunn's first season in Chicago. I seriously doubt that Bruce is going to put up a .569 OPS this season. He *might* be worth a shot if the Reds are willing to eat half of his contract, but I generally agree that there's a better option out there.
  15. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) Hope everything hos ok with him and his family. Indeed. In addition to the nagging injuries, it's possible that he just didn't want to be on the road and away from his wife and kids again this summer.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) With my belief of the Sox possibly being short a bat before but even more so now. Your big bats are Abreu/Frazier, then lawrie. After that you got Melky and eaton. Hoping avi gets better offensively and Rollins can play fully really makes the Sox offense worrisome. They really need to get another bat and probably more so being lefty. Realistically, I thought that LaRoche would be good for about a .700 OPS this season. While I agree that we could use another bat, it's not like losing LaRoche cripples our offense. Avi could probably put up a .700 OPS.
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) There's none available right now though. Not in free agency, at least. I'm wondering if there's a back-of-the-rotation vet that a rebuilding team is looking to move.
  18. Wow, crazy news. We'll gladly take the $13M in savings. I'd rather have a #4 starter than Bruce.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) I remember him hitting very well in April too. Then he just fell off. Yep, he was a good contact hitter early last season.
  20. If he keeps hitting like he has through the end of the month, it'll be difficult to not include him on the 25-man roster in April. Especially if Eaton is still working on building arm strength.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) There were a few comments during offseason that a few players weren't as positive in the clubhouse as the club expected. Had to be Samardzija and/or LaRoche Is there any reason why it would have to be one of those two?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Yep, sounds like he was just as much a disappointment in the clubhouse as he was on the field. I never got the impression that Shark's teammates didn't like him. Just the opposite, actually. My understanding is that Shark didn't like working with Coop.
  23. I think that Ventura's response to Latos' start was something like, "He did alright." So take that for whatever it's worth (probably not much). Latos is low-risk, and potentially high-reward. If he works out, great. If not, no worries. As was mentioned earlier, I'd be much more concerned about Johnson's velocity right now.
  24. Thanks, that was a good read. Hahn should go into politics after baseball. VERY disciplined speech and he avoids answering questions that he doesn't want to.
  25. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 14, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Saladino played a stellar 3B last year, Lawrie isn't the only backup 3B. Totally forgot about that. I'm still not sold on Saladino at 2B, but at least they have Rollins as another option. I hope that both of those guys are getting reps at 2B.
