Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Ducksnort replied to Soxnfins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Both. It's probably, the Sox jumped so quickly on Grandal (and Abreu, more or less), and then almost right after the signings, the Sox are rumored to be front runners for Wheeler, so now everyone (including myself) are hyped about the next big signing happening fast. I think we are all being reminded that rumors are only rumors. I've been intentional about not getting my hopes up with signings, not that I don't think Hahn can't get it done, but being disappointed is not fun. It's a lot more fun when you aren't expecting anything and then all of a sudden you do your daily random refresh and boom White Sox sign X player for X years, much like it happened with Grandal IMHO: Rumors=nothing more than fodder to get fans hyped up. Not much backbone to them. The only person I really listen to with any sense of credibility as far as inside connections are concerned is Rosenthal. -
Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.

As do I. I would not think it unreasonable to see a bench next year of Yolmer, Leury, McCann, Collins and Engel (26th man). That's an excellent bench -

Wtf lol. Is this shit happening or wat. -
This and the Grandal news is all over the front page of MLB.com. Sox are winning the offseason again. Let's hope this time, it actually translates onto the field. May be an overpay, but whatever, Jose earned it. This should not cripple them from signing other guys that will make this a winning clubhouse again.

Palka was actually my way too early bold prediction for come-back player on the Sox in 2020, much like Giolito was in 2019, and solidifying his role on the team as the power hitting DH (left handed, to boot) they have been searching for since Thome. Wishful thinking. Hope he does well on his next team!

True!

Prepare for Grandal in the leadoff spot lol

This offense is just dreadful

Idk...dude was coach of the year last year. How does he just become fireable in less than one season?
-
Why do they continue to insist on wasting downs by trying to run the ball up the middle?
-
I can't believe there are people like you out there that actually believe that he said that
-
So we will know by Thursday right?
-
Huh, weird, I thought he was in his lower 30s. Had no idea he was that young. Maybe just because it seems like he's played for Detroit forever. Also, he has Cuban blood in him.
-
I think you and I are the only ones okay with this lol. Engel is an excellent late inning pinch runner or defensive replacement, as is Yolmer whose bat probably hits better pff the bench anyhow.
-
Who is defending him?
-
Well i mean, who do they really have a chance against if they play like this? The Giants? Maybe Detroit?

Blind squirrel?

This team is so bad

Sox trade rights to Welington Castillo to rangers
Ducksnort replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am by no means an expert on any of this, but how I understand it, teams aren't able to sign players whose contracts have expired from other teams until 5 days after the World Series ( or 3 apparently depending on the contract)...so I am wondering if Abreu declaring free agency the first day after the World Series means he can now negotiate with any team he wants, instead of needing to wait until, what, Tuesday next week? -

A side note...kind of surprised to see Abreu on that list of those who elected free agency already. Isn't the initial negotiating period 5 days? Thought he would at least negotiate explicitly with the Sox for that time period before officially electing free agency. I also am a bit surprised they didn't offer Osich a contract. I know that's not the worst thing in the world, but he did well in the 2nd half and I think deserved another year at least, especially being a lefty. Boston obviously sees something in him. -
Does it depend on their options?
-
Yeah, combined with most people live in the eastern time zone, these games start at 8 and end at almost midnight. People have kids to get to bed and jobs to go to in the AM. They need to start at 7 eastern. More people will watch, especially with these games taking forever.

I probably should have checked myself. I remember hearing it on a podcast.
