Look, the Sox have dug themselves in this hole by the awful seasons they have had over the last decade plus. This whole Machado debacle is definitely magnified times a million by the results of the decisions that have been made by the front office. My point is, people will find something to get angry about. They will b**** and whine and b**** some more about something "stupid" the front office did. Guess what, at the end of the day, how many fans they didn't already have are they really losing after not getting him? Maybe they've lost out on some they might have gained, but when you really get down to it, we are all staying. We are all going to be here on Opening Day just as excited as ever, looking forward to Eloy Day. No one is leaving because of someone the Sox never got and really weren't even expected to get until, what, November 2018? Sorry, this whole thing is just stupid. They are still rebuilding, they will still be a couple years away from contention with or without him. Enjoy the process. Watch guys like Anderson and Moncada develop into their potentials. There will be more free agent additions in the future. Just because this one guy, who yes I UNDERSTAND is a generational talent, doesn't sign, doesn't mean that there won't be future additions that ultimately make this future team a champion. We need to stop acting like Machado was our savior. In my opinion, the only way Hahn deserves to be ridiculed and fired is if, and ONLY if, this rebuild totally flops. And that is AT LEAST 3-5 years away.

If the Sox signedManny Machado to that contract he wanted and he comes here and absolutely flops, there would be the same amount of outrage with the front office as they are getting right now.

This is so accurate. It took many many seasons for those teams to finally get to winning...we are in what, just beginning year 3? Its not time yet...

What a whiny bunch. You guys need women so bad.

Now that I've had a chance to think about things...

I think its safe to say fan morale is at like rock bottom...not sure what is worse, this Machado situation or the Drake LaRoche debacle and that whole 2016 season. -
Not really worried about it...but i am coonscientious of there is actually a limited amount of money and i am of the mind that Jerry is not just stuffing it in his pockets, but is really trying in his mind to do what is best for the team

RON IN 2019: Thinking of cheering for the Cubs next year

Not denying he would accelerate the rebuild. What i am saying is he is not worth that kind of money. How the hell do we know what kind of money they have? Yeah, the payroll is very low right now. They can definitely afford him now. Maybe they are projecting out what they should expect to spend in the future to complete this team via trades and free agency and taking on other big contracts, and commiting that much money to one guy would hinder that. As much of a superstar and generational talent as he might be, this game is not just about one player. See, Angels with Trout, Nats with Harper, Orioles with Manny, W Sox with Sale, plenty of others. Im sure that shit adds up quick. Even top money team, cough Cubs cough, are coming out and saying they cant afford these guys and they have no money left. Let's see who else the Sox sign and trade for as this rebuild continues and grows deeper.

Honestly, i dont care who you are, no one is worth a 10 year 300 million dollar contract. I get it, hes 26 years old. Talent level through the roof. Say he blows out his knees and isnt the same player for the next 5 years. That contract looks real dumb. Risk is too big for me. And Look at who signed him. A team that is reportedly in debt already and shouldnt really be able to afford these kinds of deals. Sounds like someone in the Padres FO is incompetent at managing finances, which is mindblowing because who have they had in recent years that would even justify them being in debt at all?
-
You're right, they probably shouldn't have reacted so quickly. However, they were not even supposed to be in this conversation this offseason in the first place, this early in the rebuild, by ALL counts. I think we can use this as a tool to see that they are SERIOUS about getting high impact guys. Yeah, maybe they should've done this or that. Hopefully they use this conversion failure as a lesson on how to act on future negotiations with these types of players.
-
Hey man, it's all good. There is no real way of knowing what exactly they offered, but hopefully this can be used as a tool for what to expect with future potential acquisitions.

I think the reason all of us are here is because the White Sox hold a special place in our hearts because of the memories they have provided. They have been an integral part to all of us. Still doesn't change the fact that this is just a game and there are so many other important things in life, and other things to get excited about. The team wasn't even supposed to be in the running for these guys a year ago...that thought was ludicrous. Now that they got so close to getting one and didn't doesn't change anything. Hahn said it himself...we might not convert on these guys. We didn't this time. Doesn't mean we won't in the future.

Can we please close this thread now? It's becoming quite the cess-pool for White Sox hatred. Yes, I know, why read then right? I am done reading, but it is very disappointing seeing how easily disgruntled and negative my fellow fans have become. Why make comments that suggest you want JR to die so the team can be sold and get new management? Like really? He is a real person, and this is a game.
-
I think it's time to remember this is a game and real life is separate from it...or at least it should be.

It's done and over with. Nothing can be done about it now. Yeah, it sucks, but you know what, if the whole incentive deal is true, my guess is he would rather have played with San Diego than come to Chicago. Why would he have any reason to believe that he is not capable of doing anything the White Sox might have asked of him to EARN. Like, what if he gets hurt for 2 full seasons or something? Boom, 60 million dollars wasted. I know, what-ifs are what-ifs. But there is a serious consideration here...the Sox were burned by this not too long ago with Danks (I know, it's different because he's a pitcher, more risk). He was considered to be a future all-star and ace of the staff for years. What a waste of a contract that was. Just because they didn't land this giant fish does not mean they won't land one next year or the year after. This front office went into rebuild mode for a reason: to build sustainable long-term future success. They are not intentionally trying to screw over this team or this fan-base. We will be fine without Machado. Hopefully this negotiating process can serve as a lesson learned for them when they are in the thick of it with the next free agent, whether that be Harper (who I honestly don't really want), Trout (lol), or whoever it may be. Hahn said himself, they will be at the negotiating table, and whether or not they convert on these targets remains to be seen. Did anyone last offseason really think the Sox would come THIS close to getting one of these prime free agents? Machado was not promised. It sure was a great narrative created by the media and aided by the Sox in acquiring Jay and Alonso, with an un-happy ending, but none of this was promised. We will get ours. Might not be until 2019 offseason or 2020, but we will get ours. Just a matter of some more patience.

It was a joke...

If Manny Machado signs this needs to be the first question asked at the press conference: "WTF took so long?"

How the hell are the Padres in debt??

Morrisey - If MLB isn’t careful, it will die by its own boring

I was born in 94. I started watching baseball when I was 10 years old (2004), which is the same year I started little league. I decided to watch the White Sox the next year, and obviously they won the World Series. That hooked me. Maybe it was the magic of the team winning that year that got me hooked, with the fantasy of being able to really experience it one day? I am not sure, but I do watch it religiously during the summer months and cannot wait to experience that same magic of 2005 and 2006, especially when the Cubs were good too. It was great to be a fan of the better team in the city. Maybe if the Sox never won it that year, I wouldn't care as much as an adult? I'm not really sure how to explain it. I definitely connect more with baseball than I do any other sport. Football is probably a good second, but I wouldn't say it's really close. I lost interest in the sport when I moved to Wisconsin, as I couldn't get the Sox on TV and they weren't really good during those years (2009-2011). When I went to college out of state I was able to purchase mlb.tv and those were the years the Sox were supposed to be good as they won the offseasons (2013-2016). Now I'm hooked on the fantasy of what this rebuild is supposedly promising us. If it doesn't work, then who knows? As for now, I still love the sport, specifically the Sox, love teaching my wife about it and her experiencing the game for the first time just like I did when I was a kid, and visiting every park in the country fascinates me. The game most definitely will not die. Too many people have stories like mine about why they love the game. These slow offseasons won't break anything. -
That's not a surprise lol
-
So I read that there were going to be some surprises at SoxFest...what were these surprises?
-
This is both interesting and funny. So he's saying it like Machado is in fact coming, and he also said he THINKS he would help our team get better....hmmmmmm yeah I think Machado would help us get better Adam!

Give me a break. Let's go back 50 years. In 1970, the average salary for a player was around 29000 dollars according to Forbes, and the average Amercan salary was around 10 grand. Today, the average is around 45000 for the average American, if you meet in the middle with men and women, and the average for a baseball player is in the 3 MILLION. I don't care what they b**** about, they're all millionaires. I understand they work their asses off and only play for 10-15 seasons on average, but that's still way more money than anyone of us will ever make, collectively!! Look how much more theyve won in their collective bargaining in the last 50 years. Like how can you b**** about making millions of dollars????

We move Eloy to 1st and sign Trout, Robert plays left. Boom, done.
