Don't see how Sox/Twins get a single game in this weekend
Ducksnort replied to Richie's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With all of these postponements, the upcoming series in Oakland (late night games) and the off day Thursday, doesn't look like I'll be doing much baseball watching for the next week. Might be a good time to catch up with the minors and follow them for a little while. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Apr 13, 2018 -> 03:00 PM) It has actually stopped snowing / sleeting here in Mpls, and Radar looks relatively clear for next 2 hours, but picks back up early evening. It's a wonder why they didn't just push it to like 3 o'clock central time. Sure you'll lose fans but the game will at least have a reasonable shot at getting pplayed. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 08:37 PM) never been there but on TV this park looks generic AF with mediocre sight lines. I have heard from multiple people it is a very nice park to go to

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 08:34 PM) By all means call out his strikeout rate, but you sound like an idiot when you talk like Moncada isn’t one of the most physically gifted players in baseball and wasn’t a consensus #1 overall prospect like a year or so ago. If he fails it won’t be because the organization failed to identify talent or developed a “prospect crush”, it will be because they still haven’t figured out to develop players with swing & miss issues. For what it is worth, the whole league is striking out a lot more than in years past

Nice heads up play. And nice to have a screw up go in our favor for once

Berrios is gonna be a giant thorn in the arse for years to come

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 01:54 PM) goodness. hopefully they win tonight and just fly back to Chicago. Or better yet, why not Milwaukee? It's closer There's a roof, and the Brewers are away this weekend in New York. Weather isn't supposed to be all that great in Chicago this weekend either, at least not for playing baseball. I think they made these kinds of accommodations for the Astros last year after the hurricane.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 04:15 PM) going into the Delmonico AB... 3 for 31....THIRTY ONE...with RISP this series. 32

QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 03:19 PM) Borderline call goes against Davidson. But if he establishes the reputation of a good eye he will get that benefit of the doubt. Too close to take though Sorry dude, pitch was right down the middle. Started outside, ended up right down the pipe.

It's a head game right now. And the Sox are losing at it.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 03:13 PM) I read teh FS writeup on the first week last night, some really strong pitching performances all up and down the minors. Good sign early. Absolutely. Very encouraging to see.

Not sure why they aren't throwing the slider in the dirt

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 02:57 PM) I'm not sure what to make of this mess right now. The lack of adding any starting pitching depth is troubling I know they are not going to win often but this rotation can't be helpful to a team. Well, the depth is in the minors. It's there. It's just not time yet. Kopech, Hansen, Dunning, Guerro, Adams. Probably forgetting some names. Plenty of depth there. Not to mention Rodon in June. Umm, Santiago can start.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 11, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) Yoan missed a hanger there. That's happened quite a bit this series, not just from Yoan. Missing a lot of hittable pitches. Not squaring up the ball. Who knows, maybe this is the inning they turn it around.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 07:39 PM) 1) I never thought I would see a White Sox team as bad as the 1970 White Sox team, a team that lost 106 games. This 2018 White Sox team looks as bad so far this season. This team looks like it could easily lose over 100 games. When you have a starting rotation with only one starter with a ERA under 5.00 you're in trouble. 2) The thing that I simply can't understand is this lovefest some White Sox fans have for Rick Hahn. This is his 6th year as GM. He has yet to have one team with a winning record. The team has been near the bottom in standings, attendance, and Tv ratings during his 6 years. The Chicago Tribune doesn't even have beat reporter covering the team on a full time basis. After the 1970 season the White Sox made major changes in their management team. They brought in Roland Hemond and he helped turn things around. If this team continues to lose games I'm hoping there are some major changes in the front office at the end of the season. If Rick Hahn had been a GM for most other MLB teams and been this unsuccessful he would have been gone by now. 3) Both Abreu and Avi Garcia have indicated they would like to remain here with Chicago. I really wonder if that is true. I would like to think they wouldn't be too heartbroken going to a contending team. Chris Sale, Adam Eaton and Jose Quintana don't miss the White Sox one bit. I couldn't blame Abreu and Avi Garcia if they wanted out of here. Regarding Rick Hahn, if this re-build does not work (See 2020), then I guaruntee you no one will love him. Right now it is a waiting game. And it is extremely difficult to remain patient. We are used to watching Sox teams that are SUPPOSED to win and don't. That's why we (including myself) are reacting this way. Except, this team isn't SUPPOSED to win. Hahn and co has even hinted at it himself. We are not supposed to win for a couple more years. Better get the popcorn and watch these players develop. My hope is in 2 years we will be saying (damn remember that 2018 season...I can't believe we watched that s***!!!)
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 04:07 PM) I guess I get it, but as I've asked a few times in other threads...what did people expect this to look like? Hahn and Co. basically came out and said this was going to be another down year. It was going to get worse before it got better. When you flip that reset switch, baseball has shown us it takes 2-3 seasons (hopefully). This is Year 2 of that. What I will say is I really believe in August, this team will be a lot more fun to watch. Do you really think that Kopech and Eloy will make that much of a difference though? I understand being excited to see them make their debuts and what not, but as far as team development goes, not sure it will be much more than what we are currently seeing. Unless this team gradually gets better as the year plays on. I guess I also forgot about Rodon. Still though.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 04:06 PM) Because it seems many posters thought rebuild meant 1 year and this year theyd be in the playoff hunt. Not sure why, but it really does appear that people thought this team was going to win a lot of games. Like the previous poster said, the first couple games probably made us all forget this was a rebuild. Makes sense, especially with the fans expectations of hitting .500

Ian Snell looks pretty pissed off with those calls to Saladino
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 03:58 PM) Reading a game thread only confirms that White Sox fans can't handle an actual rebuild. Why does it seem like last year was easier to stomach in the moment than this one? At least, that's what it feels like to me.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 02:58 PM) renteria didn't have the guys ready to play today and that's on him. I've been pretty happy with Rick's tenure but not today. I am glad they showed him firing the guys up in the clubhouse like that. A lot better than Ventura just sitting there not saying anything, but they need more than just a talking to. This needs to get better as the year goes on. Just Saladino's luck being robbed by the 2nd baseman there.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 02:51 PM) you can blame this stuff on youth but both of the mistakes this inning have been a complete lack of fundamentals. A professional, no matter what age, should be absolutely ashamed by these mistakes. No excuse for that I agree 100% I can understand losing games just simply because the other team has more talent/experience, whatever. It's a rebuilding year. But when you literally cannot catch balls that I am able to catch, hell, that a 15 year old can catch, something needs to change. I really hope this is nipped in the bud soon.
-
What an embarassment. You learn how to catch balls in high school, earlier even. Seriously.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 06:32 PM) I'm not even surprised at this point. It is what it is. Not even ten games into the season and we're saying this. SO hard to remember this is a rebuilding year. I think September last year and all of the offseason hype has given us all false hope haha.

QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 06:00 PM) FYI, the right pitch is always slider. Yeah, but the location seems to always be spot on as well. It's always slider. Always has been slider. But the slider seems to always be perfectly located, and for some reason our hitters don't look for it out of the zone.
