  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 03:10 PM) All I see is the mlb.tv link, not the typical webcast that Russ Langer hosts. Lucky for me my buddy let me use his MLB.tv account so I am able to watch Abreu strike out just now, but still misleading to not have a Sox webcast of it. I'm pretty sure the game is free. I have a mlb.tv account but haven't paid yet for the upcoming season. And I'm currently watching on mlb.tv. Nice play by Yolmer there.
  2. Man is it good to see our guys on the field again
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 03:43 PM) Bruce Levine‏ @MLBBruceLevine 43m43 minutes ago Micker Adolfo of the White Sox strained ACL in right arm - Sprained flexor in same arm. Will miss minimum of 6 weeks and more if surgery is needed. The Adolfo injury is UCL and Flexor tendon not ACL . Isn't Micker known for his arm strength? I wonder if this injury will hinder that at all.
  4. Does anyone know how legit this rumor is or is it just pure speculation
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 03:37 PM) Ha, and he's gone from i think denver to san diego to chicago to minnesota. Quite the weather downgrades. I would say San Diego is probably an upgrade in weather compared to Denver no? Unless you are just comparing those two to the other two
  6. For what it's worth, Nicky Delmonico said on today's White Sox podcast with Garfein that he thinks Engel will be the breakout player of the year. Said Engel has really worked on his swing over the off-season and looked great at hitters camp. Again, for what it's worth...
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 11:32 AM) At least in my eyes, Engel hasn't fully been beaten yet, but Leury has passed him. They should both make the roster out of ST, but barring any amazing changes in ST, Leury should be in CF on opening day and Engel should have to earn the position back. Agreed
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 12:57 PM) He's seen so little baseball of the level he should be. I'm hoping for a quick take-off, but I'm nervous he's going to struggle right away and get frustrated Yeah, I think Spring Training will give us a good idea of kind of where he is at, but my expectation is that he will struggle for the majority of this season and kind of figure it out towards the end.
  9. QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 01:46 PM) MLBTR had him projected at 17.9 strange he would agree to such a below the line contract without going to ARB. It will definitely cost him next year. Maybe there is an extension in the works... Also I don't think Jose really cares much about projected contracts, considering where he's coming from.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 12:28 PM) Shields could be dropped to the pen also and no one would be mad. Heck, with a rotation that young I wouldn't mind going to a 6 man rotation for a few weeks either if the roster could take it. True. I also suppose Fulmer would also be a bullpen candidate depending on his early starting performances.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 12:21 PM) So the rotation on opening day is shaped up to be: Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Gonzalez, Shields (no specific order)? Yup looks about right. Feels good to have some stability. Barring injuries, MiGo probably goes to the pen when Rodon comes back.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) Pretty sure reference is to starting pitching. Shields, Fulmer, Lopez, Giolito, Covey is your starting five until we know what's up with Rodon. After those five there's Kopech, Hansen, Dunning and Cease. There's a lot of RH depth. LH depth is Jordan Guerrero, Ian Clarkin and Bernardo Flores. None of which are ranked nearly as high as the RH depth. There's definitely a shortage of LH starting pitchers in the Sox organization. Which is odd, because I feel like they have had a plethora of them over the years, and dominant ones to boot.
  13. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal #Orioles GM Dan Duquette just told @masnRoch regarding Machado trade discussions: “I’m not sure we’re going to focus on that much more after tomorrow.” Things always can change, but O’s clearly not satisfied with offers so far. Aren't satisfied? They want two young pitching prospects controllable for over 4 years for 1 year rental. I'm starting to think the Orioles are a poorly run team. I mean, I guess the best they can do now is wait for the trade deadline and trade him to a desperate team then, but what do they really think they are going to get here?
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) Well - the week ended. He wasn't traded. I'm giving up on following this circus. Same. All overvalued speculation for a slow ass off-season and posturing... nothing else.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) No it's actually not because the Indians were always getting that pick. That was factored in. Here's the draft order. 1. Tigers 2. Giants 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Reds 6. Mets 7. Padres 8. Braves 9. Athletics 10. Pirates 11. Orioles 12. Jays 13. Marlins 14. Mariners 15. Rangers 16. Rays 17. Angels 18. Royals 19. Twins 20. Twins 21. Brewers 22. Rockies 23. Yankees 24. Cubs 25. Diamondbacks 26. Red Sox 27. Nationals 28. Astros 29. Indians 30. Dodgers 31. Rays (Alex Cobb) 32. Royals (Eric Hosmer) 33. Royals (Lorenzo Cain) 34. Royals (Mike Moustakas) 35. Rockies (Greg Holland) 36. Indians (Carlos Santana) Competitive Balance Round A 37. Pirates 38. Rays (Comp, failure to sign Rasmusses) 39. Orioles 40. Padres 41. Diamondbacks 42. Royals 43. Indians 44. Rockies 45. Cardinals 2nd Round 46. Tigers 47. Giants 48. White Sox The Royals have 5 picks in the first 42...that's nuts
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Saw that post and same guy mentioned Giolito AND Lopez Yeah, that won't happen. I recall Ken Rosenthal saying the Orioles are a very difficult and unpredictable team to deal with. Very different operations than most other clubs. They might ask for something like a Gio and Lopez, then do some negotiating with Hahn, be right at the brink of getting a deal done, then pull back at the last second. This might be one of those we gotta see it to believe it cases happening.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Went on the O's board and they have a member claiming to be in the know saying this: "No idea on specific offers. Haven’t been told yet. Just that offers got significantly better last night and talks really progressed. Haven’t seen anyone say anything on social media yet or any reports out there, but it will be coming." Yeah, I've read a couple current articles so far today that have said the White Sox and, uh, the DBacks of all teams, have shown the most serious interest in this. One of the articles was on MLBTR. Could be wrong, but I have a feeling this is just the slow beginning of a second wave of social media reports regarding Machado.
  18. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 01:37 AM) Went back and watched the replay. That box isn't in the field of play and is, in fact, surrounded by padding on the wall and railing in the field of play. I'm not entirely clear how the hell he fit his leg between the wall and railing...bad luck? Sox/IFSA may settle this one but I'm not convinced they lose in court. Yeah I just watched it as well...the Sox, or ISFA, have more merit in this case than I thought. I mean, if they did pad the actual box itself, would that padding have been enough to stop that injury? Also, he was running full speed like the entire way, not attempting to slow down even at the warning track. That right there is negligence on HIS part for not assuming risk of injury, or maybe it was a calculated one on his part. I mean, it's not like it was a high pressure in game situation, even if it was his first MLB game. Idk. But, now that I see that the box wasn't sticking out in the field of play (whether blatantly or "intentionally hidden" as the suit seems to suggest), I don't feel so bad for the guy.
  19. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) I had his injury and it's a nightmare. Way worse than an ACL. Apparently his tendon was basically cut in half by the box. That's even worse than mine and he might never play high level baseball again. Most times you rip the tendon off the patella and the surgeons will repair it by drilling holes in the patella and attaching it using kevlar. You can recover and play high level sports again (Jimmy Graham) but it's a long ass road back. I am not sure how they even repair a tendon that is cut in the middle. The patella tendon is the 2nd largest tendon in your body after the achilles and is just as important. Sounds like this dude is pretty pissed...per the article according to the suit... 'By failing to properly pad, guard or cover the exposed box, the defendants showed “an utter indifference to or conscious disregard” for Fowler’s safety.' By the looks of this the guy feels like the sox/isfa purposefully disregarded the safety of others, which sounds ludacris to me. #1 I wonder how long that box has been there and no one has run into it #2 The guy has a point, especially considering if this injury is as bad as you say. #3 Kind of unrelated, but I wonder how this hasn't happened with the Cubs and their unpadded brick wall (I know the ivy, but still)
  20. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:51 PM) I wanted Devers to make it Moncada, Kopech, Devers but in hindsight that's actually a ton. Would've been nice to get a better player to round out the deal but teams are always going to be hesitant with Sale's perceived arm risk. Eh, not really sure his arm is of any concern any more. I think he has shown that his perceived "risky" delivery works for him. He hasn't hit the D.L. at all. I think the hesitancy with Sale was his tendency to get worse as the season progresses, which is exactly what happened last year and into the playoffs.
  21. I apologize if this has been stated already, but here is part of what Renteria said on the score the other day regarding Abreu and Garcia... "I think their impact in our clubhouse on the other players is significant. They would require (in return) a whole lot of talent that would impact our organization as a whole for a long time to come. I think what they bring currently impacts us now and possibly into the future. They do that by the way they carry themselves and the way they prepare. They are a voice in that clubhouse. If we are going to develop a particular identity for ourselves as we continue to chip away, it’s important to have people like that who have grown up in this organization. They offer a lot both on and off of the field." I agree with Renteria here. It was obvious last season the comeraderie in the clubhouse was excellent, especially toward the end. I believe the health and chemistry of a clubhouse is just as important to the development of the potential elite young talent. Abreu and Garcia have already started developing those relationships with players and are solidifying themselves as leaders, which is what those young guys need. I think their mere presence in that clubhouse (as well as their potential to lead on the field as well) is leaps and bounds more important to the development of the future of this team than any prospects they might get back in return, or JBJ.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:07 PM) Wasn’t he also dealing with personal issues involving his family? Didn’t his season take off after seeing his son? Yes. This is true. These players are also human, though I think many people fail to realize this.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) So, the Yankees are out and they have one of the top international signing pools remaining right? Those Braves kids, some of them are going to NY. Don't get me wrong, this rebuild is the most exciting thing to happen to this franchise since 2005, but the Sox definitely have a lot of big obstacles to jump over if they are going to a world series sometime in the beginning of next decade. Those Astros are only going to get better, the Red Sox are young...but I think the Yankees are going to be the team to beat for years to come with that team they are building over there. They are going to be very hard to beat in the future when their kids develop.
