QUOTE (ypres @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Comerica is a dump. I hate seeing the Sox there. Why do you think it's a dump? It was very clean when I was there. I thought it was very unique the way it was designed too.

So I went to the game last night, and thought I might post what my observations were as I watched certain things throughout the game. Probably the most eye popping positive remark I can make is on the team chemistry. The team was so fun to watch, even warming up! The Tigers had a Spanish performance pre-game and Jose and Timmy danced together. One player was helping another do stretches and like 5 other players dog-piled them. Yolmer was hilarious. One thing he did was hold Saladino's and Moncada'shand during the anthem, and Tyler was trying to get loose but Yolmer would not let go. I was dying. I even got Yolmer's attention and did that Mickey mouse thing he does when he gets a hit. He got a kick out of that. Alen Hanson was very energetic in the dugout as well. Jose playing with the kids in the crowd, smiling and laughing. This team was very fun to watch, and you can tell they have a great atmosphere going. I think personally this is a direct result of Ricky Renteria and the time he has set. As far as play goes, yes bullpen sucked, but everything else was decent. Moncada blast was great. Avi making his usual solid contact for some singles. Defense wasn't bad. Fulmer had one rough inning, but he seemed to have some nice control. That delivery, though, irked me a bit. Wish he would tone it down. Not sure how it looked on tv but seemed like the ump blew a lot of calls. Not sure though. All in all, this team was very fun to watch, even if they did lose. Can't wait to see them play when they are a winning ballclub. Also, Comerica Park is a very nice park to go to, if anyone ever wants to make a trip to Detroit. Very nice views from anywhere you sit, and doesn't take forever to walk around the park despite the amount of space that field used. Food is decent. I recommend it!!

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Yea I'm from Michigan and have a lot of Tigers fans as friends. Their attitude seems to be "well it was coming" and "we had a good run". Only regret is just not winning that title. I actually think the Tigers have a very respectable fan base. Every game I have gone to in Detroit, I haven't been heckled or anything, and I have some pretty good conversation with them (helps when you aren't an asshat as a fan of opposing team). It is weird though standing up to cheer for your team during the game and everyone else around you is sitting and disappointed lol.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) Imagine how pissed you'd be as a Tigers fan watching this. You're getting smoked by guys that are going to be smoking you for the better part of the next 10 years most likely and you're seeing a club full of young dudes absolutely rip the s*** out of your old and s***ty guys. Living in Michigan, I can honestly say the Tigers fans are pretty accepting of their rebuild, even if it seems to be going nowhere. The Tigers have had their fair share of lost seasons in the last 20 years or so. I am looking forward to giving Detroit fans hell for the next decade however.

21 singles. That's a lot of damn singles.

Man I hope they do this when I go to the game tomorrow

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) yes I would. Thing is, at that point some other team is going to probably outbid the Sox and Avi will become a FA. It's a tough spot. I don't envy Hahn here. Well you know, let's say someone does outbid the Sox. Avi knows what is going on behind the scenes here, and he knows what this team is going to do in 3 years, his prime years. We will be one of the teams to beat, up there with Boston, N.Y. and Houston. This team gave him a chance. Many chances. He found his groove here. I have no doubt in my mind Hahn and co. will offer Avi what he deserves. If he decides to go to another team just for some more money and desert the team that basically bred him, which is also very competitive for the long term, and also with great chemistry, then I say let him go. For some odd reason, I feel like Avi won't let dollars be the only deciding factor in his contract decision. By the wau, Avi now 5 for 5 with 7 ribbies, Sox lead 15-4. This is very fun.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Because Avi is not going to settle for ~25 million guaranteed like TA. He's going to be looking for something like 4 years 90 million. At best 4 years 75 million. I simply don't think Avi has the track record to give that kind of contract out. I know from Avi and his agent's perspective this is who he his, but from the Sox' perspective they have to consider the whole picture. True, he doesn't have that kind of track record, especially with his injuries, but if he stays on the team next year and produces similarly to this year, would you say he has earned that contract?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) Avi has two more years of control. With the arc of the White Sox he won't be here on the next playoff team unless he is extended. I think the Sox trade him to find someone who will fit into that window. I guess we shall just have to sit back and see what kind of creativity Hahn can do with him. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be interesting. I mean, they did extend Anderson (I do realize he is younger) without him really proving anything yet. Not sure why they would pass on extending Avi, unless he just makes it difficult for them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/is-avis...n-noncommittal/ I do remember Hahn saying that. I guess I would disagree then with saying he will probably be traded, as I think the Sox would need to be blown away with another Eaton-esque kind of offer based on the kind of production and value Avi has made for himself this year. Not saying it won't happen, but honestly, I think with Avi pretty much doing what he has done all season without his average even dipping into the .290s, and that outrageous BABIP, I think he has pretty much shown this is not a fluke. In my honest opinion, if this is the real Avi, you likely will not find a prospect that a team is willing to give up that has the potential to do consistently what Avi has done this year. Can you imagine if Avi puts up similar numbers in 2020/2021? And with his age, it is very much a possibility. I mean, nothing is 100%, but. A trade of Avi including anyone short of the top prospect in baseball and then some, I would think is a lost trade on the Sox end. Just my 2 cents.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) I don't think the Sox have interest in extending him at what his asking price probably will be. Hahn was pretty clear in his non-commitment to Avi. That is Rick Hahn speak for Just curious...when did it sound like Hahn was not commited to Avi? Haven't heard this language from him yet.

Yoan needs to work on his defense this off-season. Too many balls going underneath his glove because it isn't on the ground or hitting off his glove because he pulls his eyes off the ball before it's its in his glove. Need to work out the kinks.
-
Wow...the Tigers don't even care anymore
-
Look at all those depressed Tigers fans
-
Avi!!!!!

With Anderson and Yoan tearing the cover off the balls, this lineup is So much more dangerous because of the speed on the basepaths with those 2 on creating distractions. Coupled with a horrible Detroit team, yeah...Sox are probably gonna move out of the division cellar come Sunday.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) Detroit's defense has been UGLY this inning. Looks a lot like KC honestly...hopefully both of them play like this for years to come.

Yessss

C'mon Avi hit a granny

This is SO fun to watch. Very much looking forward to attending tomorrow's game, donning my White Sox gear proudly among the Tigers fans. Especially with Mr 7 era Anibal Sanchez. Maybe I can finally see a freaking win.

QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) What's your point? Well, draft position wise, that would put Philadelphia, San Fran, AND Detroit ahead of us. 4th draft pick instead of top 3. Plus, 4th place in the division...no one really expected the Sox to leave the cellar in the 1st rebuilding year. The fact that there are teams worse off than us (especially in our own division) is oddly comforting. Now, the Sox have games left to play still against Houston, Angels and not to mention the last 3 against Cleveland, so they probably have one good losing streak left in them, but they might just finish ahead of Detroit. No one thought that would happen. -

For those pro tankers out there...Looking at the upcoming series with Detroit...if the Sox win today, they will only be 2 games behind Detroit in the standings. In the 4 games upcoming, none of Detroit's projected starters have an ERA under 5, and their only offense is essentially Miggy. We are however throwing Shields, Fulmer, and I'm guessing Pelfrey or Holmberg Holmberg and then probably ReyLo. With the way the Sox are hitting and playing, and with Detroit struggling mightily, coupled with how the Sox have played them this year, the Sox may actually move into 4th place in the division come Sunday. -

What a fricking outstanding season for Avi. The whole damn year. Pushing that average back to .330 now. Wasn't down to nearly .300 like a month or so ago? Just amazing.
