Coop has to be so disgusted with his pitching. To be fair, the bullpen is probably absolutely taxed because our starters are awful. But, man. Usually we are known for our pitching. Not used to it. Melky 4-4. I almost want him to stay on the team just to watch a player who is actually entertaining and can play.

It's a constant progression." I find these quotes by Saladino and Abreu oddly satisfying, especially coming from a couple players who in my opinion will be here for a while (Abreu more than Sally). It's a good feeling to know that the players aren't blindly still trying to get the wild card spot and playing only for this year...they understand the process and how it works. Good to know they are on board with this, even if it means sacrificing this year and next year for it.

Tim Anderson has lots of work to do. He is just way too overly agressive with everything...swinging at bad pitches, overrunning bases, trying to throw the balll before its in his mitt leading to an error. He needs to learn patience, with literally his whole game. This aggressive approach just isnt working for him. Hitting, defense and baserunning all look very premature right now...he's gonna be a late bloomer like Avi.

Didn't shields used to be actually good at one point? Like an ace for the Rays? How has he become so horrible?

The system is a great blend of high ceiling and moderate floor, specifically Collins, Burger, Sheets, Gonzalez, Skoug, Fisher, Call & Mendick and the dearth of pitching talent. There are some solid major league growth assets in Rodon & Anderson even with down years and some of the younger players might develop into 2-2.5WAR regulars: Yolmer Sanchez, Leury Garcia, Adam Engel & Matt Davidson, that was something that was desperately missed with the recent roster constructions with Sale, Q & Eaton, stars & scrubs with out a sufficent amount of average major league players and depth. There are some interesting players near mlb ready in Delmonico, Liriano, Willy Garcia & the recently acquired Polo that might stick and turn into something as well. Finally they still have one asset they can sell high and likely cash in for another top 100 prospect in Avi. They will be at the front of the line for wavier claims; like Alen Hansen. They will likely have a top 5 pick in '18 & '19 and complement that with the rule V and major league roster space to stash them. It would be wonderful if they hit the lotto and land the next Odubel Herrera or Joakim Soria. Lastly they will have a plenty of money for the upcoming stacked free agent classes that can supplement this roster going into their window, their adjusted payroll for 2019 is 5.6 million before any arbitration or free agent signings. I agree, except for Avi. I'm not really sure why people want to get rid of him. I know people are afraid this year is a fluke abd trade him while his value is up, but what if he really has figured it out and he really is a run producer with a .300 plus average for the rest of his prime years? (Which he is just now entering). I don't think trading Avi would be wise. You wont get much back for him, and if he continues to stay productive, you A likely won't get a player that will produce like him or fill a need, and B he will be one of the best hitters in that 2020 Sox lineup at, what, 29 or 30 years old? Again, this is IF he stays productive, but I think the risk with him way outweighs any risk you might have from any unproven prospect you might get for him. I say keep him.

So, short-term thinking, what does the rotation realistically look like for 2018? You'd have to think Giolito is going to get his shot at his first full major league stint, regardless how bad he is at AAA this season. Lopez is probably there. Rodon obviously. Who else? I dont think Dunning will be up at the start of the season. Shields and Holland will be gone, (thank goodness), so who mans the other 2 spots? Another couple rentals?? Or are we trying our luck with Holmberg again?

As far as Moncada's numbers go, I remember Paul Konerko saying if you have 3 good months and 3 below-average to average months in a season, you are a very productive baseball player. Not worried about Moncada at all. He will go through some growing pains, and people on this site will have heart attacks and say the Sale trade was the worst thing ever and Hahn will become enemy number one, but we shouldn't worry about him one bit. He will come into his own. Takes maturation and experience. I believe he will do wonderful things, especially with Jose Abreu mentoring him.

So, we now have technically 3 rebuilding teams in the AL Central (I consider Twins still rebuilding), with Cleveland being a mediocre 1st place team and KC...not really sure what to think of them...not that they are good. This division could really suck it up for the next few years...and it also could be the most dominant one for the following 5-10 years. Should be interesting to see how Detroit decides to rebuild their system, as the Sox now have some competition in the rebuilding department.

You're right, they aren't big rivals, when they both suck or when one sucks (which is usually the case). BUT, when both teams are good (which is almost never the case), I feel like the playoff atmosphere is kicked into high gear, and both teams defninitely play for more than just the win. I feel like if in a few years, the Cubs are still who they are today, and if the Sox are dominating like they are supposed to, then the rivalry will be re-ignited again. It will be very fun to watch.
