  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Should read...should they try to work out a deal once he goes to league minimum from the Sox perspective? Opportunity cost...playing time for Narvaez/Smith vs. the possibility of flipping Montero for something if he was hot offensively. Does anyone actually see either of those two starting for the Sox in 2-3 years? Will Montero mean 1-2 more wins and a 5 or 6 pick instead of 3-4? That said, there are a lot of ex Sox catchers around the big leagues. So we've actually done okay cultivating back ups. Phegley and Flowers come to mind with Oakland and Atlanta...who else though?
  2. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) Aaron Judge is an absolute monster. This Yankees lineup is gonna be scary good for the next 6-7 years. I think eventually Gary Sanchez will be their DH. From what I've seen this series, if it is any indication of his normal defense, he sucks defensively. It really is not only annoying, but kind of embarrassing when you have to go and talk to the pitcher every other pitch during a high leverage situation (granted the Yankees are known for doing that kind of thing, but still), just seems like Sanchez isn't good at communicating with the pitchers (which is the most important part of the catcher's job description, in my opinion) or blocking pitches at the plate. But, he sure can hit, and he will continue to hit as long as Judge is in front of him in that lineup.
  3. I just don't understand how a catcher catches the ball has such a huge affect on whether or not close pitches are called strikes. Can't you see where the damn ball crossed the plate? Why does it matter where it is caught?
  4. The Sox have had bases loaded 4 times in the last 7 innings played. Let's go Melky.
  5. Well, Rodon did only give up 3 runs, and they were from walks. But after what he gave up in the minors and coming up to the majors and not giving up much to the Yankees, I'll take that.
  6. Almost an hour and not even into the 3rd inning yet
  7. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) It's difficult for me to believe what we saw last season was a fluke. I think in the long run he'll be fine, but he's definitely going through growing pains right now. I think him losing his best friend to gun violence has messed him up quite a bit.
  8. Who do you suppose that Cubs fan in the front row is rooting for?
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:59 PM) Minus the walk. Forgot about that Judge walk
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:29 PM) Giolito 64 pitches thru 5, which is good. 2 runs. Hopefully the 6th inning is clean. He seems to be progressing, slowly, but definitely better than the other way around. This is good, considering he will probably be a September call up and then, I'm assuming he will be on the starting roster next year, in the bullpen at the very least.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) Definitely, I'd be more than ok if guys over-performed and we lost some draft position as a result. But to say draft position is meaningless is just plain stupid and shows a complete lack of reasoning. I don't think draft positioning is meaningless, but I do think it is way overhyped.
  12. This is the result of the team in the AL with the worst record. And also of a team in the first year of a rebuild. Get used it boys...although I do think this will be the most painful of it. Once the veterans leave, we will at least have the pleasure of seeing the youngns develop. The only thing that will make this whole thing just awful will be to see the farm players just tank. That would really just be awful and what I am most worried about lol.
  13. With Holmberg being a soft tossing lefty, you'd think Judge should destroy him. Location key here.
  14. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) Austin Meadows, a guy Soxtalk wanted badly in trade rumors over the winter, just tore his hamstring and will miss a month or so. He's had a mediocre at best season in AAA and his stock has certainly slipped a bit. It has been a tough season for Pirates prospects as Glasnow has been a disaster, Meadows has under performed and is now injured, Newman has put up a .633 OPS in AA, Keller has been solid but also dealt with injuries... Goes to show that prospects are lottery tickets. Your comments sum up why I believe this whole people wanting the Sox to lose to get better draft positioning is stupid. Sorry if you're one of them, but some of the best players have come from very low rounds in the draft...look at Buehrle.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) The way he runs a bullpen is mind boggling. If Robin was still here, the pitchforks would be out, but they aren't trying to win, so you might as well keep him around and hope with more talent his decisions make more sense. If not launch him then. At this point he is fine. I feel bad for Alen Hanson. His kids are going to be teased about their father being PH for by Kevan Smith. No manager is perfect, even ones that win world series'. Many fans have griped over the way Maddon ran his team in the world series, and even this season, and hes a top of the line manager, or considered to be. Ozzie had his share of haters too. Let Ricky manage. He's great for this team and fits perfectly with the Spanish speaking players. No one better to run this team in my opinion.
  16. QUOTE (Soha @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) Kahnle comes through again Yah he should bring back a nice package from someone. I'd say get back one great player from Washington, a prospect, for Robertson and Kahnle. Not a bad deal at all.
  17. Jose needs to learn who's popup is whose. Yesterday he caught a popup that should've been Sanchez's, and that right there should've been Anderson's.
  18. Keep watching them 05 reruns boys lmao...its gonna be a loonnngg 2nd half. At least we will be able to watch Moncada.
  19. REALLY starting to feel like a rebuilding team now. Not only does the pitching absolutely reek, but the Sox aren't hitting pitchers who they should. You just get that feeling when they get a golden offensive opportunity that they aren't going to do anything...just like that inning there. I just hope they start to heat it up when I see my first game of the year against Texas next Saturday.
  20. Would be nice if Sheilds gave us a surprise and went 7 innings today to give that pen a rest...but he's got to keep those pitch counts down.
  21. I just feel like Rodon is going to be a complete disaster when he comes back up... I don't care if he is just trying to throw a lot of pitches...when you give up 7 earned runs over 4 and a third in AAA, you don't have any business in a MLB rotation. He's gonna be hard to watch, mostly in my opinion because of his inability to control his pitches
  22. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 08:44 PM) lol, how the f*** did that ball drop? What was the CF doing? Does anyone know if the ceremony tomorrow will be aired, and if it will be, will it be available via mlb.tv?
