  1. I believe they just want $5 of Manny's pay each year for the life of Manny's current contract. I'm not sure what they had offered to pay before....
  2. Unfortunately, that is the case. Texas wants $5mil a year...
  3. I wish this would just get done. I can't work at all - just thinking about this....
  4. I was just listening to the Boston stations out here and they said that the Red Sox met with Texas last night and they ran into a "major snag" regarding how much Texas wants the Red Sox to pay of Manny's remaining contract. Apparently there's still a lot to be worked out here. Also, Bud Selig called for a Thursday deadline for getting this deal done. Hopefully Boston/Texas can work their stuff out...
  5. BAM! Hopefully Emeril kicks KW's ass into gear...
  6. Eckstein or Kennedy are rumored to be part of the supposed Washburn/Nomah trade. Seems like this stupid blockbuster trade is holding everything up. Wish the Red Sox would just do something so we don't have to sit here and wait for stuff to go down...
  7. I'd take Stynes in a second. Has a good OBP - perfect 2 hole in the lineup and had the highest fielding for 3B (he can play 2B or 3B) in the NL, I believe.
  8. One less 2B out there I suppose...
  9. So, its probably time we start to be realistic about who we're going to get here for starting pitching. It probably won't be Perez - its more likely to be KW trolling for the next Loaiza on the cheap. Here's a list of Free Agent starting pitchers according to MLB.com (I know there must be many more out there - is there a list of all free agents somewhere?) Perhaps we can find someone out there from this list... 1. Alvarez, Wilson 2. Ashby, Andy 3. Astacio, Pedro 4. Bacsik, Mike 5. Batista, Miguel 6. Burkett, John 7. D'Amico, Jeff 8. Dempster, Ryan 9. Erickson, Scott 10. Estes, Shawn 11. Etherton, Seth 12. Helling, Rick 13. Hitchcock, Sterling 14. Lidle, Cory 15. Lima, Jose 16. Maddux, Greg 17. Millwood, Kevin 18. Moehler, Brian 19. Oliver, Darren 20. Parque, Jim 21. Person, Robert 22. Pettitte, Andy 23. Ponson, Sidney 24. Reed, Rick 25. Reynolds, Shane 26. Ritchie, Todd 27. Rogers, Kenny 28. Rusch, Glendon 29. Stephenson, Garrett 30. Suppan, Jeff 31. Tomko, Brett 32. Valdes, Ismael 33. Villone, Ron 34. Wells, David 35. Wright, Jamey Comments on anyone???
  10. Judging from the mood of the people and the media here in Boston, I would say the deal will go down. Boston has to move Nomah first (Nomah for Koch & money considerations, anyone?), but well see. I bet it happens...
  11. No way for Kim... HOWEVER... Boston is DESPERATELY searching for a way to ship Nomah outta here so they can do the whole Manny/A-Rod trade thing. From what the sports radio stations are saying, BoSox management is very keen on the idea of getting A-Rod and they're willing to swallow some of Manny's contract and aren't expecting much in return for Nomah since he only has one year left in his contract. This could kill two birds with one stone - Boston gets their (dubious) closer and we solve our SS problem and move Valentin to 2nd or ship him off. I'd certainly do a Koch/Nomah trade with Boston picking up some of Nomah's pay. We'd only have him for a year, but I'd take it if it would get Koch outta Chicago...
  12. I was just watching the local news here in Boston and the sportscaster mentioned that Eddie Guardado told the Red Sox he'd be willing to come here for less money if he was guaranteed the closer job. This only muddies up the whole situation even further, but I'd certainly love to see Steady Eddie elsewhere next year. These next couple weeks are certainly going to be crazy.... By the way - the Boston media is going F***ING NUTS over the Manny/A-Rod trade. Its all they talked about the past week....
  13. This prolly means the Yanks aren't in pursuit of Brown anymore, so the Dodgers might be more willing to part with Perez. Seems like there's an abundance of high priced talent out there with very few people willing to take on the contracts....
  14. At least KW had the sense not to trade CLee away. I'd love to see a PK/Perez (and possibly Izturus) trade.
  15. From AP News: Sounds like he's Tony's replacement in the short term...
  16. Let me just preface this by saying: I love the White Sox. I mean, I completely f*king LOVE the White Sox, but everyone on this board b****ing about the Cubs makes us WS fans look like pathetic losers and I'm tired of "see all the cubs fans cry" or "L flag blowing at Wrigley" BS. Just quit b****ing about the Cubs! Who the F cares? We beat the crap outta them and so did the Marlins. What do they matter to the Sox? Not much. We see them six times a year and kick the crap out of them every time. So what? We still can't beat the damn Twins. I'd be more concerned about them, who we're picking up/signing next year, or more importantly, our next manager. Just please, quit the stupid, pathetic "I hate the Cubs" talk. New topic: Reed, starting CF?
  17. I'm probably going to get reamed for this, but I think that as Sox fans and as the incessantly inherent underdogs we are, we should root for the Cubs. Heck, they haven't gone all the way longer than us, but they looked pretty good tonight and c'mon - don't you hate Larry Jones and Bobby Cocks more than anyone on the Cubs staff? I will say however, that its annoying seeing Kerry's wife on the TV all the time - but, at least its better than seeing Kurt Warner's ugly wife all over the screen...
  18. Pray I don't get my butt kicked - these Red Sox fans are absolutely crazy. They yell horrible things at their own players (my favorite being "You haahhd on!" to Tony Clark), let alone visiting fans... Go White Sox!
  19. Giambi was hit by a pitch yesterday, and Boone twisted his ankle on those precarious dugout steps. Apparently, they may have to sit out a few days. Hopefully long enough to miss the Sox altogether...
