Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers

I wish Jerry aimed to win the division every year and not simply second place. -
Trade Whispers - Starting Pitchers

Fixed this for you. And we are trying to catch all the teams at the top. The Sox said multiple championships, so they better be worried about the second best team in baseball. -

What would we have to give up to get Gray or Woodruff? -
Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread

No need to be tapped out after Liam. They need to finish this rebuild off correctly. Get Liam, a Q quality starter or trade for one, and LH DH bat and see how far we can take this. -
Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego

All I know is that I hate the Padres. Machado and Tatis and then the dude coming out and saying he is glad the Padres aren't the White Sox. Props to them for building that team, but screw them as well. -

Our team will be alright, but if we had the balls and savvy of the Padres FO we'd be unstoppable. -

They'd be the favorites in our division if added. -

The Padres have two Hall of Fame caliber position players, a billion dollars to spend, a billion prospects to trade, and will have a billion TOR arms shortly. -
I've heard this story before. Make an offer and wait for another team to get our guy. If this is indeed true, there is no reason that we can't sign Brantley.

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread

We acquire expensive relievers and terrible everyday players. We fail to acquire elite talent on mega deals. -
At what cost? I'd love to have him but who do we give up?

Let's wait for Young and Fuld to do something first before changing the GM game.

Badler: Sox expected to sign Yoelki Cespedes
SonofaRoache replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That is pretty impressive after the huge graduations we had recently. Usually after your big graduation, your rankings plummet. I think we have a chance to keep the ball rolling by simply drafting BPA moving forward. -

Tony LaRussa to plead guilty to lesser charge
SonofaRoache replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's coached successfully in 4 different decades. He has experience relating to current players per generation. This group will be more of a task for him for sure, but he asked for this so he needs to own it. The onus is on him to step up and prove he is worthy of this job and not the backlash he is getting. I believe in giving people chances to redeem themselves,so we shall see. People are entitled to their opinions, but in his case, those opinions need to be reevaluated and adjusted on and off the field. -
Tony LaRussa to plead guilty to lesser charge

Tony was hired for two reasons. 1. He is an icon and very popular. He will bring outside notoriety and publicity to the team, good or bad. This brings in money and prevents us from being an afterthought (see 2004-2006) When we play on national TV, TLR will be a big focal point for the announcers, which wasn't the case with RR and Ventura. 2. TLR is a winner, period. He has had success in four different decades managing. He knows the game very well and can lead a talented team to the World Series. You don't have to worry about him costing you games like RR and Ventura on the field. The caveat to this is his off the field issues. This is a valid concern and could very well blow up in our faces. But the Sox are going big, so we shall see how it plays out. I just wish they'd spend more money on top end talent to really put us over the top before our guys get too expensive. -

I think the plan is to get him to stop drinking, especially at bars. No need to encourage drinking by offering a lyft and uber. -

Notebook. Take that back! These signings are a good way to replenish the farm while having lower first round picks. -

When I say they I mean the Sox organization in general. JR made the hire but again, I'm sure he spoke with medical folks and lawyers to get a feel for where TLR was at. He knew TLR had 2 DUI cases at the point of hiring. No way he didn't look into it further. From a baseball perspective, TLR has proven he can win spanning 3 different decades, but we shall see how he handles the clubhouse. -

I'm saying they wanted to see if he was an alcoholic or something. They wouldn't hire him if they felt his drinking or manners would be destructive. I mean it could end up being that way, but they definitely looked at his mental before the hiring. -

Well that is true. But we don't know if his plan was to wait until the matter was resolved. Some lawyers tell their clients to wait to see how the case plays out before doing something like that, even if they want to get help. But believe me, had TLR gotten help people would just say he was doing so to get off easy or to get the job. This is a lose-lose situation for him anyway. I'm also pretty sure the Sox evaluated him mentally before officially hiring him and will help him make the best decision to get better. Especially since a part of their success is in Tony's hands. -

Getting a DUI or even 2 isn't necessarily a drinking problem. Millions of people get drunk each week to the point where they can't legally drive. TLR has a decision making and self entitlement problem. Getting faded and thinking you are above the public and law and can do whatever you want is wrong. Being a celebrity doesn't give you the right to have reckless decision making. That is where he needs to start. We see this with his comments about kneeling. If he is to become a better person, he needs an attitude adjustment. -

We don't know if treatment has taken place since the arrest or if it will moving forward. That is not something an individual has to disclose to the public. The Sox gave a statement out of respect and it is time to move on for them. They, nor TLR owe the fanbase anything else in this regard. If TLR messes up again, the Sox will be held accountable for keeping their word and letting him go. If people are angry that is their right, but they can take their Fandom elsewhere if they don't like this hire. Or they can give it a chance and enjoy the ride. -
Yep. The Sox went after better contracts/pitchers than Lynn but the cost was steep.
-
Not a chance. That deal would have started with Kopech.
