Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
SonofaRoache replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We get your point and it is valid. The issue is that free agent LH DH's of quality aren't going to want to play for us knowing Vaughn will need at bats to prove himself for two years. Then you throw in MVP and possibly Eloy getting DH at bats from time to time. We have to look at it from the perspective of the player coming here. We'd love to sign a guy for 1 or 2 years and cheap to be a lefty DH, but would he want to risk not playing much and a chance at a bigger payday? -
I think Sox fans for sure are betting on winning because of a weak division. This has been the notion since the rebuild started. The hope seems to be that the AL West and AL East beat each other up so much they don't have enough wins to overtake us. I prefer the being better than everyone else approach. I also don't think the Twins are going anywhere for 2 more years. And by then the Tigers could be back. This is why we must always try to get better and sign high quality talent to the team.

Vaughn will be given a chance to succeed the next two years. This is why I penciled him into the lineup and why we cannot add a long term LH bat just yet. No quality LH DH bat will want to come here with Abreu and Vaughn getting almost all of the plate appearances. -

I agree with you but it could go sideways for him. Let's say his hypothetical market is the Mets, Sox, Angels, and Nationals. If the Mets and Nationals sign Colome and Yates tomorrow, he has no time to re-evaluate. If it is down to the Sox and Angels, they may even reduce their offers to 2 or 3 years. -

The dynamics of our team won't let that happen until probably 2023. We have Vaughn coming up soon so the only chance of getting a quality LH DH long term is after Abreu leaves. For the season of 2021, we have to make good with what we have. In 2021, our big hitters are gonna be Tim, Yoan, Jose, Eloy, Robert, and Yasmani. Anything else on top of that will be a cherry. -

Our leaders can't even get stimulus checks to the public and are catching Covid themselves. It trickles down to the public. -

Well, if lesser guys start signing then you run the risk of only having one or two suitors. In this economy, that means your market value could crater. -

Dunn was a problem because he was brought here to be a main part of our lineup. Bringing in Schwarber wouldn't be as devastating because he'd be a bottom of the order guy with less pressure on him. I'd take a lower average from him if he slugs right handers well. I also like that Schwarber has competed in the playoffs and for a division title 6 years running. He is battle tested and that means a lot on a young team like ours that hasn't played in the real playoffs yet. . -

Also players with high batting averages have consistently good approaches at the plate and are more likely to not swing at bad pitches. They may not have the consistent power to have high OPS' but they are indeed useful. -
I would change the word speculating, to wanting. This would cover the situation at hand with some fans.

Yeah, but I'm not so sure that would be worth it. The Phillies have already spent a lot of money, but it may not show up in the record books. Atlanta and the Mets could be better for years to come no matter what Hahn would do. He could then be fired for not being better than them. He may not call all of the shots her but he also isn't getting big time blame. He is still here because he got a pass for the 7 years of failure, which probably doesn't happen anywhere else.

Drinking in itself is the actual problem here. How many cases of abuse, assaults, and deaths occur because of people drinking alcohol? -

Exactly. If we aren't gonna sign star hitters and SP's, we might as well get the star catcher in Grandal and a star relief pitcher. -

There seems to be this notion our moves are being made because of TLR. I'm sure we checked in on Lynn last trade deadline. I'm also sure that our FO wanted Eaton as well. One of the reasons given for Eaton was to add some toughness to the team. This was probably one of the reasons Renteria was fired. -

Kids can go to games with masks like everyone who is vaccinated. If only vaccinated people are at the games and children wear masks except when eating, there shouldn't be major concern for virus spreading. -

Well IF you buy tickets, you agree that you were vaccinated. If you buy tickets at the stadium this won't be an issue because they can check for vaccination cards prior to letting you get to the ticket gates. If you buy them online, they should require a vaccination card number with your name and info to verify. This must be done for everyone in your party prior to purchasing tickets. If you find a way to cheat the system or scalp, you have no right to complain if you get busted. -

SonofaRoache replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This actually makes since to do. If you successfully complete the vaccination you should get a vaccination card. You should not be allowed into public places like stadiums and bars without it. This would encourage people to get the vaccine and ensure people are safe. People have the right to not get the vaccine, but they do not have to right to put other people's lives in danger. This being said, even with the card verification people still should be wearing masks when possible to be extra safe. As far as baseball games go, once you purchase the ticket, security should have a check in line where they verify your vaccination card, if you and your party doesn't have it, you get turned around. -

This isn't MLB The Show 19. You can't just up an offer and then it is immediately signed because it met a magical number in free agency. That offer will get shopped around to see if it can be realistically beaten. -
Your post was almost perfect. In all seriousness though you are correct. We are on the upswing and can finally sign free agents without needing them to be great. We need to bring in as much talent as we can to slump proof our team. All you can ask for is making the playoffs and then taking your chances against the best. I even like the idea of having a Hall of Fame manager that has coached in a lot of World Series' and playoff games.

I think it is both. Although I'm not a fan of a 4 year deal. -

We did not wait too long, Hendrik's team is waiting out on the best deal possible from a winner. I am not sure we get it done with the list of teams that are in the race. We swim at the youth pool and shoot from the free throw line underhanded. -
If we are serious about winning a title next year, then we need one player from each group. Group A- Paxton/Kluber/Richards/Q Group B- Hendriks/Rosenthal Group C- Pederson/Schwarber/any lefty power DH type These moves make us the ALC favorite and a serious championship contender. Our schedule last year was soft and we beat down the bad teams and struggled against the decent and good teams. We also have to remember other teams in the league will get better for sure.

Spiders sounds too much like a AAA team name. A more appropriate name for them would be the Cleveland Pennies.
