When it was announced that McCann was an all-star, that went out the window. He may have wanted to stay, but it wouldn't have been for cheap. And his terrible second half of 2019 made it necessary for us to sign Grandal. Had McCann been good in the second half of 2019, he would have been extended.
Even with his second half struggles in 2019, no way was James signing an extension for cheap. He was technically an all star and probably wanted to bet on himself for a big payday. Last year was a great scenario for him with the 60 games.
Second half of 2019 was a disaster and that sealed his fate. He was good last year but in a limited and hand picked role. Best of luck to him, but Grandal still has way more upside the next couple of years.
Most people are taking 2020 with a grain of salt. Eaton is not a superstar, but for a number 8 hitter he is fine. Obviously Springer would have been the answer but it is what it is.
That was some damn good and clutch hitting from Eaton. If he can get back to form this will be a very solid signing. I'm not sure if his defense can improve though.
You missed out because it was a very well thought out and informative post. He brought up some good points and some interesting points. He did a good job including stats and incorporating his own viewpoints about the particular subject. I would definitely read again.
Our front office is known for grudges so Liam had to drop him. They eventually let people back in, so Lozano will be back in our good graces in 5 years, or if he delivers us a star.
If Schwarber is having a great season then Vaughn stays down with the excuse he needs to play AA and AAA ball. If Schwarber is mediocre to bad, you call up Vaughn and trade Schwarber, or have him ride pine. If Vaughn struggles too much in this scenario, you DH Eloy and start Schwarber in left.
He won't come up until July at the earliest if we sign a DH. The excuse will be that he needs to play in AA and AAA first. Especially if the signed DH is having a great season.
Nope. The Sox knew they weren't re-signing McCann and most fans knew that too. They acted with urgency for Lynn before they could get Padre'd. They probably knew they wanted Eaton all along and signed him early so that they can determine their financial situation quicker. It was also said that 6 other teams had contacted Eaton.
