Passan: Springer to White Sox not happening
SonofaRoache replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This approach works for rebuilding clubs. Teams like us will call up prospects earlier to help the team win. If Vaughn won't be ready this year then they need to sign Schwarber, Ozuna, or Cruz to one year deals. I think they will bring Vaughn up though and allocate the money to RF and a TOR arm. -

They only way you sign him is if you are trading Vaughn for an elite #1 arm. -

Some of that Wheeler money went to DK. -

If Vaughn is called up in April or May, where does that leave Schwarber? How does he prove himself to get a big payday? -
RIP Dick, you are a Sox legend and hopefully a Hall of Famer.

And......they also knew they were gonna offer him a huge extension. So trading for him was like signing him to a huge free agent contract. And they got the championship for doing it a year early. -

I meant the feeling after a title. Winning in 2005 is a great thing, but having that 2007 team would feel bad even with the title. Looking at it from that three year perspective. Having elongated success should never be a problem in sports. So yes, the 2000-2010 White Sox were a big success for me. -
Will We Have a Full 162 Game Season in 2021?
SonofaRoache replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They can play 162 if they do it right. April and May should be the divisional setup they had last year. You play your division and the other division only. There also need to be a strict policy of mask wearing and staying out of contact with people. By the end of May the players should be vaccinated and good to go. -

The one and done is great until two years later. 2007 was no fun for sure. -

I think the Red Sox and Dodgers made those trades knowing they were gonna do extensions. Both of those teams gave up a lot. I see your point about testing players out, but we aren't in position to do that. We are not the Dodgers or Red Sox, we need to acquire big talent whenever we can if it makes sense. I am on board with a Lynn trade if we don't get Bauer. I'm not a fan of any of the RFs but I can live with Joc if we bring in a really good pitcher. -

That's why I am okay with the move i suppose. But he'd be here for 1 year and would cost prospects. -

That's a fair point. But Darvish costs money and prospects. I'm sure the Cubs would need Kopech back for him. Lynn is a good bet and I'd like that move for cheap, but he is only available for one year and is not a top end game 1 kind of guy. -

I'm not sure I understand the difference. Let's say we traded for Bauer last year and signed him to a 4 year and 140 million dollar deal. How would that be any different than signing him today for 4 years and 140 million, outside of giving away prospects? -
That's good to hear that there is some resolution. I would expect a bunch of one year deals out of the DH types.

Well, we were ready last year to make that offer. This year we are definitely ready to make that offer. I don't prefer trading for that pitcher because you have to give up prospects. It is being reported that the Rays want Vaughn or Kopech for Snell. Those are guys we need so I'd rather just pay Bauer. I am definitely giving the Sox the benefit of the doubt this offseason to get a big deal done. We don't need to be the Dodgers, and don't have to be because we have controllable talent locked up. We have the money to sign a Bauer type now and we should. That would not make us the Dodgers or Yankees in terms of spending. -

They traded for Mookie knowing they needed to extend him as a free agent. They won the World Series right after. -

Max Scherzer was a free agent. And the other guys were expensive pitchers brought in via trade. Verlander, Price, soon would be Sale (top prospects given away) etc. The point is, big money pitcher was brought in and these teams won. It is about the money and quality of player, not how they were acquired. These players played huge roles in their teams winning it all, including Lester and Mookie. -

Maybe not always free agency but if I'm not mistaken, the Nationals, Red Sox, Astros, and Cubs have won recent titles acquiring an expensive top end pitcher or two. The Dodgers won their title after signing Mookie Betts to a big deal. The Yankees are a favorite again after bringing in Cole and Stanton. -

Too much truth in this post. It felt like we were hanging on for dear life waiting on a team to outbid us for Manny. That should have never dragged into damn near March if we were serious. -

Spreading money around on weaker deals and players is weak. No one wants to be the Twins and Indians. -

I don't hate Jerry, I just hate that we seem to not sign the big guy. Same thing with the Bulls at this point. Bauer is a no brainer for this team and the big boys get these types of deals done. -
Joc Pederson: How long will he be a future White Sox?
SonofaRoache replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If I'm Joc I quickly take the Sox offer if it comes. Great team, great platoon situation, and possible DH opportunities. -

We probably offered him 4 years and 80 million and called it an "offer". If we aren't going all out to sign Bauer or Springer we are doing this wrong. Now is the time to take on a big 4 or maybe year deal that would expire when our youngins start making big dollars. -
I think it will be about the same because they probably called it a month after the season. Teams were focused on FA strategy and the tender deadline, and then Thanksgiving. Now they have their plans together and can finally talk about it.
