Maybe Hahn didn't write a statement because he will be speaking shortly.
-
TLR believes in analytics. He just goes with the flow more in game based on results. He will set lineups, rotation, and use his pitchers based on analytics. I am a believer of using both in a common sense manner.
-
Jerry spend that money and back up your talk. Nothing more to say than this.
-
So last two offseason all players care about is money. Now, money is not the factor. Let's be real, the only other option for Sox fans would have been Hinch. And players wouldn't want to play for him.
-
I think concern is valid. But if TLR manages this team the right way and we have a Cardinals or Giants type of run all will be forgotten. The only thing I feel he NEEDS to do is address his players about his political stance and how they can work together. TLR needs to be a manager if today's game and he needs to say it.
-
Jerry you got your man. Now spend some damn money.
-
I am more concerned about money spending than the manager at this point.

Our problem with the kneeling issue for the most part is people not appreciating and respecting our right to protest on the field as we sit fit peacefully. No one is calling these people racists unless they bring oppression and inequality into their viewpoints. Being against kneeling is more of a misinformed thing about the flag and peacefully protesting than it is racism. Now, people that bring up All Lives Mattering and Blue Lives Mattering are a different story.
-
This is because context is not a thing in this country. Being against kneeling because you think it disrespects the flag is not racist. As I've said before, Americans are taught since they are 5 to stand for the flag out of respect. It comes across as racist because Black issues are tied into kneeling. This doesn't mean there aren't racists against kneeling, but being against kneeling isn't necessarily racist in itself. Just like I wouldn't call a man sexist because of his views on abortion if it is about the baby and not an issue with a woman's right to choose. If someone's disagreement with kneeling is truly about respect for the country and not about disagreeing with racism, they are not being racist. My problem with TLR is that he said he wouldn't want them on the field at all protesting. He may think the baseball field and anthem is not the spot to protest, but it is anyone's right to do so until baseball bans it (which they would never do).

It sucks that no one wants to play for TLR or Hinch, but they are the best options available. So be it. After we win with either one, players will jump on board.
-
I agree, but even if not, how does hiring the fan favorite Hinch change anything? Players hate that guy more than TLR. Fans should be melting down for Bochy if that is the case.
-
And the Machado situation worked out for us. People are melting down acting like TLR is a terrible manager or something. I see people complaining about losing Stroman, yet they want a guy who players hate even more in Hinch. There are reasons to not want TLR, but the meltdown is laughable when your next best option is Hinch or Cora.
-
This is the main argument that can be made against TLR in my opinion. He is a great coach and solid leader. His clubhouses have been known to fracture and his political views do not align with our guys. This information is public knowledge and I'm sure it has been addressed with Kenny and players if TLR is the choice.
-
Fair point. But at least this guy has been a winner unlike Ventura. Realistically our two options to get a Hall of Fame manager are Hinch and TLR. Hinch may not be on JRs radar because of too recent of a scandal. Bochy is there as well but I'm not sure he wants to come back yet. Not many other guys are as qualified as those 3 and available.
-
I'll give you age. His style of play fielded consistently good to great teams competing for titles. PEDS are a problem for me but to be fair a large portion of the league was using. Not easy to get away with PEDS now for anyone. My top choice is a known busted cheater coming off a suspension for a year.

When was the last time the Sox hired a manager with TLR accomplishments and status? If he is into analytics as experts are saying, and not a complete amateur risk, how is this the same old same old?
-
As Steve Stone would say. "The bucket is empty."
-
I'm not saying you made it up. I think Hahn may not have been a fan originally. But based on what he said at his presser and how quickly TLR was a front runner, I'm not sure he didn't come around. I hated the TLR rumor, but after further thought have come around. For all we know Hahn may now get more money to spend in FA. Hahn may be okay with job security if TLR flops and he wasn't his guy. If Hahn's guy gets hired and flops, Hahn may have been fired. Or Hahn realizes TLR is a very good manager with many faults just like his choice of Hinch. Or lastly, it is possible the info you received was outdated or taken out of context prior to reaching you. So this is not a personal attack on you or your sources. Even the top experts get fed unreliable or false info. Or info that was true at a time, but no longer may be the case.
-
I keep reading that Hahn is upset or not on board with TLR. What proof exists showing this to be the case? Especially when TLR is announced a candidate front runner directly after Hahn's presser.
-
The irony is most people here want Hinch, including myself. A guy that players will tweet they do not want to play for i.e Bauer.
-
I am certain it was discussed. It's not like we don't have Kenny who brought up his own issues with racism and speaks about BLM. I'm sure Kenny has been heavily involved in the talks. The fact that TLR was a candidate right after Hahn's presser tells me they had already reached out to him after the season ended most likely.
-
This is very well said and I agree. People act like TLR is a disaster of a coach. I'm sure players were consulted and this thing was thought through. They want to win championships folks, so I'm sure they have a plan of action and that Hahn is on board with it by now. They probably also have a plan in place for the guy they want him to groom. Maybe they didn't like the other options because they are coming of suspensions or are retired and staying so. Maybe other guys they like don't have the necessary experience and post season success as manager. TLR was not my top choice but Sox fans being on suicide watch, and the media, is ridiculous. As for his political views, I don't agree with him, but that is his business. As long as he doesn't let it get in the way of coaching and respecting the player's rights it is not a concern. There will be plenty of time to get angry if this plan fails, but we should at least let it fail first.
-
So Hahn is gonna leave a great team and money to go somewhere else and not have loyalty of FO or great team he built? Because a very successful manager could help us win?
-
There is no evidence Hahn was not on board with this move. TLR also checks Hahns boxes.
-
Those guys had done nothing in this league when hired. They are going a different route. It may blow up in there face, but they can get blasted then.
