He is against players kneeling during the anthem and says he would keep them in the clubhouse. We have guys that kneel. -
Because they messed up and have now put together a good team. They are spending money and bounced Ricky. So I'm willing to listen to their plan with him.
-
That is bad because he has all of the achievements TLR does and is a better manager. He is also much better at handling a clubhouse.
-
If it goes badly they should be fired and put on blast. But we should at least give this org the benefit of the doubt.
-
I wonder if Sox fans will be happy if TLR wins it all.
-
Maybe Hahn likes TLR too? Maybe they don't want Hinch because of the scandal? If Hinch and Cora are out and Bochy won't come back from retirement, who else is out there? I think TLR would be good for a couple years at least but I'm gonna wait to see how we spend money this offseason. If we improve this roster big time, I'm okay with the move.

The answer is that talent is very important as well. Having a smart savvy manager who also uses analytics is ideal. The most important thing is you must have talent. Tampa Bay and Oakland are great stories of being frugal and winning. But neither has won a title with their strategy.
-
What about the analytic coaches that did not make the World Series? Why did they not make it? Joe Maddon was listed in 2016, why did he not make the WS this year? Why did Francona not make it this year?
-
Interesting that the best teams coming into the year talent wise make it to the World Series. Do you have info about managers that are analytically driven that did not make the World Series?
-
I agree with this mostly for the regular season though. During the season things average out and good managers are about the same in terms of impact, talent takes over from there. In the playoffs however, managerial decisions become very important because you can't afford to lose games. One bad decision can cost you a win, series, or the title.
-
Weren't people just saying two weeks ago that Dave Roberts is a terrible manager though and should be fired? I also think whoever gets our job will be asked to embrace today's game. Our FO isn't stupid, they know the ins and outs of these guys. We need a manager that will not make blatantly dumb calls and moves. We need a guy that will put us in the best position to win and has won before. Hinch, Bochy, TLR are the guys for me.

It becomes all in if he backs it up with FA dollars. -

TLR needs to address his political statements if he is hired to be coach. This being said, I think he'd be a great hire for our team. He is a great manager and would bring national attention and respect to our team. If he is hired, I assume he'd be on board with today's game and grooming a future replacement. I also think that he could encourage Jerry to spend money as they'd love to finish what they started in the 70's before they leave. For me the only other realistic option is AJ Hinch, as I think Bochy won't unretire. -
The World Series is over. Why haven't we hired a manager yet?
-
I think JR, Hahn, and Kenny frequently talk about improving the team. JR isn't some casual fan that only knows when runs are scored. AJ Hinch could just go through Hahn if it were true.
-
And I'm not sure strep throat caused him the power outage. Timing and lack of practice may have been a factor. The bottom line is, I think they try to get better in RF.

Trevor Bauer Thread (Mazara Free Zone)
SonofaRoache replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The problem is Mazara was so bad can you even take the risk? He hit a homer in 60 games and basically became a singles hitter. I think our front office wants to go big so we shall see how they play it. Mazara with his norms I'd be okay with as a platoon, but the guy we got this season isn't worth the risk to me. -

Then he shouldn't be paid more than 5 million. We have the money and time to sign a good starting pitcher and a decent right fielder. We would like the right fielder to be on a 1 or two year deal that is over when big pay raises for other players start. I'd prefer to sign a pitcher or two to a short deal as well. -
Even with hitting 20+ homers a year Mazara was a negative player overall. There isn't much room for him to get better from an OBP perspective or a power perspective from his norm.
-
To be honest, his overall production will remind you of Quintana. Very solid pitcher but nothing remarkable or memorable. On our team if all goes right, he is a number 3 where he belongs, possibly a number 4. This being if Kopech is the man quickly.
-
I'm keeping my job and shutting up. Speaking out about it just gets you blackballed. And speaking out about it early means you can't prove it is even happening. As it would have been done before the investigation took place.
-
The problem here is that they couldn't prove how involved people were. They couldn't prove what players did what and for how long. Management got suspended for letting it happen in general.
-
Not happening. You are now viewed as a quitter. No FO will trust that you won't quit during the middle of a championship run. Teams often put stipulations in contracts to avoid just quitting and then coming back to a better situation.
-
Hopefully next week we will have a manager. I think this was always going to drag on because they have to interview Hinch and a few coaches left in the playoffs.
-
Hmm. I'm not sure if he is the guy then. Sounds like Hahn wants more success out of the next guy. Although being an assistant on a great team helps.
