Sox Press Conference - 11am 10/12 - RR out as Sox manager
SonofaRoache replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I feel legit terrible for Ricky. I wanted him gone but imagine how devastated he must be that this happened again. Two weeks before the season ended, Hahn said Rick deserved to be here enjoying the success. Rick literally lost his job because of the last 13 games of this season. This being said, if you want to be a champion, you cannot have this kind of managing going on. We need to go get a real winner and not some wannabe. -
True, but the teams all put their best feet forward. The better teams won for sure and handily in most cases. The Cubs have been trash since their 13 and 3 start, so I'm not surprised the Marlins beat them. The last round was normal, and again, the better teams won. We do not want to be that team that wins 95 games a year and is bounced in the first round every year, like the Twins and As.
-
Our division got dog walked in the playoffs, as did the division we played in Interleague. The team that beat us in the playoffs just got dog walked by a team that will get dog walked by the Rays/Yankees. We need to sign a TOR arm and a good bat RFer. If we want to win next season we have work to do.
-
He's on fiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrreeeeeee
-
If Ozzie is a great overall manager that can help us win titles, then yes, bring him back.
-
Our core is set and have their own thing going. Eaton will not come in and disrupt that. On this team, he is an outsider.
-
No time for pettiness. Eaton is relatively cheap and will give you a high OBP, a little pop, and solid defense. If you add him and Vaughn to this lineup you can win the division with another high quality starter added. Again, we have to let pride and pettiness go and sign this dude if he is available.

Oh snap! Time to get to work!!!

State of Chicago baseball: the tipping point
SonofaRoache replied to 35thstreetswarm's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here is a reality. The two divisions we played this year went 2 and 12 in the playoffs. We went 13 and 22 against. 500. We may be a little further away than we hoped. We have to attack our needs and ramp up the roster once more. -
Yeah but their annual price goes up. So the team salary number goes up. I think we have a lot coming off the books by 2023 to offset this however.
-
Well that is true. But there are better options on the market and the good minds make those moves to get better.
-
That's why you only have him bat against righties. Let Engel get the lefties. His numbers against righties are pretty good.
-
They don't need Vaughn unless the DH stays for good. It would take Kopech and Cease. But if you did it, have them pay down DeGroms salary by 12 million and use savings to sign Bauer as well. Degrom Bauer Gio DK Who cares It would suck to have those guys come back and bite us, but unlike the other trades we make, we are getting a HOFer in return. Tatis trade sucks because we got hot garbage back.
-
It can happen to if we went bold. Not sure if we should do it, but it could be done. But you are losing Kopech and Cease for sure. I'd make the Mets eat some of the salary though, maybe take 12 million off that 32 and we take Fam off their hands. Still could sign Bauer and Joc/Springer after unloading EE, Mazara, Rodon, etc.
-
He mashes righties and is a lefty power bat RF.
-
The added benefit is he won't be in Minnesota helping them win haha. But for sure he would come here and and slash .250/320/810
-
First transaction: Springer Crazy trade scenario: We trade for DeGrom Biggest signing: Bauer 2021 closer: Colome Bauer 2021 team: White Sox

Are Dunning and/or Cease Slotted into the 2021 Starting Rotation?
SonofaRoache replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Or him facing better teams. If we sign a FA, our top 3 are set. The rest of the guys can fight for 4th and 5th spots. If no one claims it with authority by July, you trade for another starter and slot Kopech in. -
Even if it weren't discussed beforehand and he just pitched with less heat, he would have mentioned this during the mound visit.
-
Yeah, but if he was pacing himself, the coaches would have known and wouldn't have taken him out of the game. The fact that they took him out of the game after lower velocity shows that he was, in fact hurt.
-
Velocity being down 4 MPH is a sign of being hurt.
-
I disagree. If we were up 2 to 0 on Houston or tied 1 to 1, we let Dunning pitch through his struggles. This was a do or die game with 3 off days before the next round. So Ricky didn't care about blowing through the bullpen.

Guess the pitcher we add in the offseason

You are right about Kopech. That is why i think he needs to be viewed as a bonus. Cannot rely on him because he is coming off injury and not playing much in his 3 seasons of being a MLBer. We need to proceed as if he is a number 4 guy at best and will be that way until possibly 2023. -

Yeah, we aren't re-signing James unless it is a mega steal. The money will be spent again on probably two starters and absorbing a RF either in FA or a trade. The one thing making me feel better about this ending is knowing they will make this team better this offseason. This is year one of true contention coming up and they will be judged at the highest of standards. I'm glad Kenny and Hahn have already had a big conversation about free agency targets. -

Problem with an player doing this is a depreciation in value. By February, teams may not be willing to spend and now you are screwed.
