Guess the pitcher we add in the offseason
SonofaRoache replied to thxfrthmmrs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still think Bauer is the guy. We need his passion as all the real contenders have that guy. Lester,Verlander, Cole, DeGrom, Sale, and even Kershaw all provided it for their teams. Kopech is fun but I doubt he becomes that guy. Gio is not that type of guy and is too nice. DK is vocal enough but doesn't have the electric stuff to be that guy. -

He meant they ran into Frank Thomas outside of Sox Fest Studio. -
I think talent will go off the board beginning in mid December.
-
The media and national fans think he's dumb. Yhe only folks that like him are the players and FO. Not sure his family does.

A winning organization would fire him, see Cubs. We won't because as Hahn said, he "deserves" the opportunity to enjoy success here. not earned the right, but simply deserves to.

Had nothing to do wirh time. We should have split. Ricky torpedoed us. -
Who are we trading for Lindor? Will team be okay being bumped from SS after playing very well? Vaughn plus who for that TOR arm after trading for Lindor?

Sounds a lot like Trubisky. -
If we had a real number three starter, we would have won today and probably beat the Astros too. Having a legit chance at a title is relative. I'm not saying to mortgage the future, but we also shouldn't be giving away seasons like we did this year. There is no guarantee we'd have as good of a chance as this year to reach the ALCS. In fact, this may have been our easiest path to the ALCS during our run.

You have to be objective if you want to be a champion. Cease was a fraud at the deadline, and you can't count on rookie Dunning to help carry you after a couple of starts through a penant race.

Putting things in realistic perspective.

I don't think we were a year ahead of schedule at all. We came in as a 83 to 88 win team. I think in a full year we would have won 88 or 89 and missed post season. I think Minny takes the central, and Yankees and Celeveland/Houston as wild cards. The way this season was set up worked out well for us. I think we have a lot of good going for us, but are about 3 hitters away from being a legit contender. One is Yoan, one is Vaughn, and the other is Springer. We are 3 starters away from being a legit contender. One is Bauer, one is Kopech, and one is any of our other guys taking over the number 5 spot. We are a manager away from elite status, but if the other stuff I listed works out well, this may not be as big of a hindrance. The key for us, is to be injury and major slump proof. You need a lot of guys who can just get hits of many varieties. This team is not as good as people think yet, as evident by their 13 and 22 record against. 500 teams and poor play down the stretch. But they also aren't that far away from being an elite team either. The key is to not be the Twins or As, very good regular season teams that do nothing in post season. -

I'm good with that. Bauer Gio DK Kopech Q The rest of the guys can sort themselves out. I'm not sure Dunning, Cease, or Stiever will become more than a 4 or 5. They can also be dangled as trade bait. -
Good season from where we were. We ended 13 and 22 against .500 clubs. Turned out Minnesota and Cleveland were meh. Not really sure how good we are, but that is for the off season to decide. We have nothing to be ashamed of and hopefully it gets better. We have a good deal of work to do. Enjoy the offseason.

Very disappointing end to the season. AL Central crapped the bed big time. -

Yep, people just didn't want to see it, or believe it. We mashed the bad teams, which is a great sign. This series was competitive at least. And we still can win it. -

We aren't a horrible baseball team or close to it. Sadly, we may be the Twins and Indians. Our division didn't pitch well and left a ton of offense out there. -

Fellas this may be it. We have no one to blame but ourselves. Had a ton of golden opportunities. A ton. -
