People are gonna die at a high rate until August. There will still be social distancing during the summer to avoid another ride up to a peak. They are saying now 85k people will die by August even with strict social distancing efforts. -

I'm sorry but that plan is stupid. No way should players be that isolated with nothing to do or families to see for 5 months. And to make it worse, they are gonna sit in stands six feet from one another? No mound visits? Let me guess defenders will also have to sit out and let a computer determine plays and if a a players would have been tagged out at home. If they are gonna play at least play for real. The game still needs to feel authentic to some degree. -

Yeah but they are now accustom to crowds and having crowds for those moments. I'm talking big emotional moments in the major league, not practice. I'm sure they will make do but athletes have already said it won't be the same and I agree. They will do it because they need to get paid, but still. -

That was the point I was making as well. How can a player get fired up without fans there? How can you celebrate a division title or championship with no fans there? Great teams are great because they win on the road in tough environments, but if all games are neutral what impact will that have? -

Not saying I won't watch. But it is like getting turned down by your girl and settling for a slump buster to date. Better than nothing but.....not the same. -

Lol true. But I watched him play in person and it was the booze, food, and my family having a great time at the ball park that made it special. -

Gonna be tough to get excited about a season in minor parks with no fans. The game just won't be as exciting. -
This is true, but the experts doubt it. They are saying we'd be fortunate to only lose 100k people. We all hope for the best but not trusting the experts would be a huge mistake. I see social distancing going through June 30th and shelter in places through April, with a little more leniency in May and June.

I'll say it again, if 100k people die from the virus, Baseball probably won't play out of respect to a national disaster. It's not about testing people and finding vaccines, the optics would be terrible. If 100k, the low end side of deaths is not the reality, and say 200k people die, then football will be canceled too.
-
Not having a baseball season would be devastating for the Sox, but public safety is more important obviously. Our window would get pushed back to 2022. Also, I think if they play 100 games, they need to let at least 8 teams from each league in the playoffs. Have a few best of three series and a few byes in each league. This is important in my opinion because it keeps teams and fans engaged the entire season and makes the playoffs more exciting for fans. It also limits how much tanking would go on.
-
I agree. But I don't think baseball will play out of respect. If the Government and doctors are correct and 100k people die by the summer, baseball will be respectful and not have a season. Now if they are all wrong and say, 20k people die but the virus is dying fast, it may be different. But again, I think it will be more of a moral issue for baseball than a logistics one.

If teams are doing this, I think it's obvious where we will be headed. It's also been discussed that players will accrue service time if no season is played. I think MLB will still count today and moving forward as time earned in the usual manner. If the season starts in June, 60 plus days would have been accrued towards service time. It helps the players for sure, and teams still get the extra year if they bring players along as they would have. It also ensures the best players will be on the field from day one.
-
I'm thinking teams are treating this as if nothing will change regarding service time dates. If the season is shortened, MLB may stick with the regular dates and count this time now as the season.

If the season is lost, how will it affect players?

It appears to be based on a championship season. If a championship is played thisbyear, service time will be accrued. -
What would it take to get Noah Syndergaard?

Sounds like he may not miss any time then. -

The problem is we are flattening the curve, so the virus may be here much longer, and a new sharp increase in the curve could happen. -

China is doing much better now. They've even had days of no new cases. We must be careful, but this won't be a year long deadly virus. Hopefully by June the virus will be much weaker and we will have treatment for it. -
EE is a zero risk move. If he sucks, you DH James and Collins.
-
Not sure. He is coming of TJS and 5 starts, so I think he'd be open to adding 2 or 3 years on to his deal with more dollars upfront.
-
Kopech needs to just play right away. If we start in June, there should be no restrictions and we should just extend him.

Yeah I wanted to know as well. Online people said we got screwed outside of Grandal's 90. I may not buy the game if they think we suck.
