I don't think the MLB can afford not to have a season. That is a revenue loss that is significant and something they didn't plan for. It would crater the baseball economy. I also think that a large portion of fans would not come back next season. Will players get paid? I doubt it since sponsors have clauses to get their money back in these situations. It's easy to say cancel everything in life because life is more important, but once the virus slows down in a month, what would we do about our tanked economy?

If you wait til mid april and things have calmed down to controllable, the risk in April will be the same as the risk in June or August. The virus isn't going to just die anytime soon and a vaccine won't be ready for at least another year. Players will be at risk even next year. So if you can't play in April you might as well cancel the season and possibly next season too.

That wouldn't be a huge deal if no fans were at the game. Getting sick from attending a game probably wouldn't hold up in court, as you attend sporting events at your own risk. But again, I wouldn't have fans at the game until things got much better and under control. I get your point, but that threat won't go away for long time anyway. The virus won't just die for good anytime soon. If the season started in July, players would still be at risk and the fans would be too.

I would just cancel the all star festivities as they are whack anyway and let the teams play during that period (still would have voting for worthy players). I would also add in 5 double headers for everyone and extend the season one week, since we were starting early anyway. We could still get 150 games in if we can start this thing 3 weeks late.

His arm still won't be ready as he isn't pitching right now.

The Ringer loves the White Sox: Two Articles
SonofaRoache replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Madrigal only becomes a regular guy, the only thing saving the pick from being a disaster is everyone else succeeding. We tanked and used a top 5 pick on him. You don't tank and suck as much as we did for JAG. Thankfully, I think he will become a good all around player. -
If we tried McCann we are taking a big risk. I want a guy who can help us this year and next year. So realistically, a bullpen piece or I wouldn't trade him until the deadline.

Look at the Chicago Bulls as a reference. The perception that they don't take care of their own has led to them signing no stars, while every other decent sized market can. If you listen to the players talk you can tell they love Jose. Look at their reactions to his extension. They did get paid, but that money could have come from another team. Moncada could have forced a trade in two years if he wanted, or held out for a much bigger dollar total. Also, all over twitter our very own fans were begging for Jose to come back long term. Lastly, Jose's value will increase when he moves to DH next year. He loses a lot of value because of his defense. If he focuses all of his attention on hitting and being a leader, the contract while be fine.

Nope, they respect him so much they took his word that playing here long term was the answer. Had we fucked Jose over, I doubt we get these deals done this quickly and team friendly.

We tried to tell them.

Must be a tape delay on the field because the commentator had no idea that was crushed and fair. -
Guess Sox young core players career WAR
SonofaRoache replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
For reference so that people can accurately do this. Fangraphs WAR is as follows per season: 0-1 Scrub 1-2 Role Player 2-3 Solid Starter 3-4 Good Player 4-5 All Star 5-6 Superstar 6+ MVP -
The Sox haven't entered spring training as a true contender since 2007. So the answer is probably yes.

Sox in Discussions for Moncada Extension per Y2Jimmy
SonofaRoache replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We are just as good as the Astros, Yankees, and Dodgers. The four of us have a 50 percent chance of winning the World Series, either we win it, or we won't, 50/50. -
Sox in Discussions for Moncada Extension per Y2Jimmy
SonofaRoache replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Cubs situation was different. Their stars became stars in the year they went to the NLCS. At that point you can't do this strategy. Bryant and Baez were not getting extended that early. Rizzo did get his, and no one else was worthy. -
Aaron Bummer extended 5 years/16M (plus two options)
SonofaRoache replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't know about this one. Relievers just aren't worth that kind of commitment anymore unless they are a lights out kind of guy with a good sized track record. . -
Keep jumping around the main point. If Tim only had 2 years left after 2018 like Mazara, we'd still be upset if the return were Steele Walker. The main point which is being ignored by the run around is that Mazara has not earned the right to be given a job after 4 years of 0 8 WAR. Moncada and Timmy were brought up because it shows how far Mazara has fallen in terms of potential, being traded for a Steele Walker. Even after Timmy was meh his first 3 years or so we wouldn't trade him for Steele Walker. Which again, means Mazara probably shouldn't be handed a job even if he does work out.

And the merry go round starts spinning again.

Sox Payroll Redux. Why did the Spending Stop ?
SonofaRoache replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't believe they are maxed out for a second. They are gonna be more selective about spending though. I think they want to buy pieces that will help put them over the top.
