  1. The next year belongs to the Cubs, the 4 after that, the Sox. If the Sox sign more high quality free agents that shift may happen next season
  2. I agree with this completely. And it lines up with the 100m offer that was being speculated weeks ago.
  3. Short term higher AAV means DK, Ryu, and Hamels. You're not getting Wheeler for less than 5 and 100. I think a few weeks back people were saying we offered him 100 million. I believe that and think we are the high bidder. I think the short years and AAV is for Cole and Stras.
  4. It also depends or the organization. Theo broke a very long drought in Chicago, so it made sense to him to go after that ring at all costs. I wouldn't have made that trade, but it did make some sense for them. Now that the Cubs have that title and 3 straight NLCS's, longevity will be the key. The Red Sox let Dom go because they got over the hump and won it all a few times. Now they want to be in it every year because they have high payrolls. As for us, we don't need to make an all in trade but it won't get the GM fired doing so. The deal for Shields was bad because he sucked before we got him, and we weren't winning a title that year.
  5. I think he was talking about Theo. So fuck back in here and be tortured by no news like the rest of us.
  6. We make the playoffs once a decade over the last 70 years or so. We win titles once in a lifetime. So I'd say yes, it would have been worth it. I'd trade Moncada tomorrow for one title in the next 3 seasons and a few more playoff appearances.
  7. I got the Athletic subscription for 75 percent off for the year on Cyber Monday. This was definitely money well spent as they do a great job. Ken thinks Wheeler will sign anyday for 5 years and about 100 to 110 million. Nothing new here, but has has spoken with league sources.
  8. Just because teams are willing to spend big on the top two arms doesn't mean they will overpay for Wheeler. For instance, if we miss out on our top target Wheelerz that doesn't mean we are gonna overpay DK all of a sudden.
  9. An extension would be at a per year bases. We may be able to add one or two years, but more than that is unlikely.
  10. Because the bottom 4 are big unknowns and can become trade chips if things go according to plan. If any of the top 4 falter, we will have other options, or at the very least, a deeper bullpen.
  11. He wants an offer from the Twins to create a bodding war. We can't give him that.
  12. And there is no confirmed news like with Machado. Everything is hidden.
  13. 46 minutes since the last response.... Boyos we may need to revisit this thread in 2 weeks.
  14. Buddy switched the question to try and get them all to say Cubs. And Wrigley field is historic and all, but the Sox have the better fan and stadium experience inside the ball park. Outside of the park, is all Cubs in a landslide.
  15. Merkin definitely is in the know and says things the Sox want him to. He wouldn't randomly jeopardize his job by writing a nugget about Wheeler unless it came from a reputable source.
  16. I thought Wheeler had signed when the other thread was suddenly locked.
  17. The Sox, Twins, Braves, and/or Phillies could move on to Bum, Ryu, DK, Hamels, Miley, etc to ensure they get a quality starter. His market could dry up real quick if he waits another few weeks or so.
