  1. Sign somebody, anybody! Except Yolmer or Nova.
  2. The Sox will have a chance to win the bid him. Wheeler doesn't want his market to shrink so he will take the best great deal quickly.
  3. We have no way of knowing what was offered. Another club could have offered 3/45 for all we know. I'm pretty sure JR didn't look at another offer of 2/28 and say, I'm just gonna give him 3/50 for the hell of it.
  4. Are you stuck in a SAW trap that states if Abreu remains on the Sox past 2020 you'd meet your untimely demise?
  5. Which is why he said, I'd really like for....
  6. I'd be shocked if he took the 6 and 108. He'd be 34 years old and with inflation, could get a one year deal at 12 million if he were a disappointing pitcher at that point. If he were still solid, he'd get another 2 or 3 year deal like Hamels. If he completely sucked, he'd be out of baseball, but I think he'd take that 5 year gamble.
  7. I'd be real careful about the treatment of Abreu. Our best players look at him like a big brother and I don't want any bad vibes around our team. I'd also like Abreu to convince Moncada to stick around and help attract other free agents. They dollar amount sucks, but may not be worth the downside of pissing the team off and having players think we are disloyal. If you want to see how that stigma hurts you, just look at JR's other team.
  8. Well, I'm looking at what Nick can do moving forward and I agree with you, there is reason to be concerned.I'm also not sure if our FO feels comfortable trading for Joc with only one year left. RF is a problem for us and I don't see any great solutions at this point. I don't think we will be able to sign Betts or Springer next year.
  9. I'd like to point out that Rick Hahn seems very confident with this off-season. After signing Grandal, he said there was much more work to do. He also sounds like he knows we will be signing some more good talent, but wants to wait first to let it happen. It feels good knowing how hard they are working behind the scenes.
  10. If only his defense wasn't so horrible. I know he'd cost a lot more, but he'd be worth the addition cost in this scenario.
  11. The Twins have a ton of money as well and need pitching. I wouldn't count them out yet, but we should be able to win the "tie breaker" if money is equal.
  12. I think Cole Hamels and Wade Miley may be options for us. I'm not a fan of Nova and our FO probably isn't either.
  13. I think we signed Grandal early to avoid snoopers and to convince good pitching to sign here. I think we try to wrap Wheeler up so that we can go after a second pitcher and right fielder in time for the rush starting December 8th.
  14. I just think people are overreacting about this deal. Yeah it is an overpay, but I'm 99 percent certain this deal won't stop us from making the moves we intend to make. Our front office knew what they'd have to offer Jose and calculated this into their plans. We are still going to acquire some good talent and need to enjoy rooting for Jose having a chance to finally win.
  15. You never know. We need to bring some starters in here though. We can't trot out the same old same old and injured arms only.
  16. I just saw that tweet and dude is legit.
  17. I think once we start succeeding on the field Jose will understand. He loves the culture and vibe with this organization and most likely won't want to make any waves. But if he truly wants to play first base, he can force the team's hand by playing well.
  18. The Reds are trying to Padres us and are going after Wheeler and RFs. We are gonna have to up the ante for Wheeler I think at some point.
  19. Jose will be asked to DH next season and he will do it.
  20. It would have been even worse for you had I been an asshole and accepted your ban bet, of Jose getting a deal longer than one year.
  21. Happy to be right on this one. Keep at it Sox!
  22. True, but after Grandal signed we now know we are gonna make moves anyway. You'll get that feeling back when we move up in the power rankings and people project us as a true contender.
  23. We are all in now. Dive in and get wet.
  24. I'd give Hamels two years if we get Wheeler, and he is the last best option. If we don't want him, we'd be able to trade him next year anyway. Hamels may turn out to be a very good lefty bullpen arm down the line.
