  1. Well in the old playoff format they would have missed the playoffs. And a road game in a play in game is tougher to win than a home game. Had they lost 2-1 things may have been different for Theo and company.
  2. The Cubs calling Bryant up later may have hurt them. They ended up in a tight race with Pitt and St Louis and finished third. 2 games they lost early on could have won the division, especially their close Cards games.
  3. I'd take Grandal's money and upgrade your pitcher to Bum or Stras AND Wood. If you still have money then bring in one of those one year 35 year old DH types.
  4. So are you saying next year is a non competitive season? Because we can blow a year where we can win our division by keeping him and Magical down until mid April in Hope's that the 2026 season will be a good one. If our front office does their jobs correctly, we will be fine in 2026 and have the ability to re-sign him, or even give him an extension earlier on. If our front office doesn't do their jobs, 2026 won't matter, and Robert may be gone anyway.
  5. Also, for those using Kris Bryant as an example, that is an interesting situation. The Cubs probably win that one close loss they had if Bryant was called up the year before. In the old playoff format, the Cubs would not have made the playoffs in 2015 as they were one game behind Pitt for the first wild card. Because of the two wild cards, they were able to extend their season. Had they won one more game with Bryant being up, they would have hosted Pitt in that one game wild card instead of going on the road. The Cubs season also started against St Louis that year, the team that edged the Cubs and Pirates out for the division. If the Cubs win that 3-2 loss, and that second game against the Cards, (2-0 loss) they'd have won the division instead of being the second wild card. I know this is a lot of ifs but my point is baseball standings get real tight and not having Robert and Magical for two weeks can turn a contention year into another sit at home year.
  6. Our lineup would actually be perfect with Gordon if we acquire two starters and a bullpen arm. Gordon won't be great, but he will play good defense and not be a dead bat. He would bat 9th in our lineup so you can do worse than him I suppose. He and Robert will also make up for the bad D we will get in left.
  7. All signees should be on a three or four year deal to keep money to sign core guys. Unless of course, if a star wants to sign. 2020 is year 1 of our contention window.
  8. We aren't signing a big fish like Cole. I do think we sign 2 impact starters like Bum and Wood, we will acquire an impact RF somehow, and will sign a bullpen arm. Our FA class will have a big impact on the team but no stars.
  9. Mike Trout. LF - FA CF- Fish RF - Luis Robert 3B- Yoyo SS - Manderson 2B- Magical 1B- Vaugn DH- The Bess
  10. If only it were that simple. Even if they offer 200 million the Yankees and Red Sox will he right there. The Cubs may be as well if they ditch Hammels and can find a sucker to take Heyward since he's playing better.
  11. Blake Snell didn't do anything worth noting that inning. That show was on us, we bailed him out.
  12. I'd walk Big game and let Beef hit into a DP.
  13. I have the TB feed so thanks for clearing it up.
  14. He was a week from 83 at the time of the Manny debacle.
  15. I put our chances of getting him or any top FA at 10 percent. I just don't think we are gonna outbid teams at that level. We can sign lower tier good players who will help, but Cole will be going to one of the big boys. We just need to hope Kopech, Cease, and Gio and be real good pitchers for us moving forward.
  16. We can compete in 2020 and weren't able to this year.
  17. I'd have to wear shades to hide the shock in my eyes if we sign Cole.
  18. That's true. But good players do get better as time progresses and as they get more MLB at bats. Two months and an offseason/spring training is a very good way of getting a young guy acclimated to the game.
  19. I don't understand why so many fans hate the idea of him coming up August 1st. He gets to struggle for two months, get better in the offseason and has a chance to help us win in 2020. To be honest, we shouldn't even be worried about 2026 right now when we have 6 years of hopefully quality baseball coming up. Something we haven't seen since the early 1900s. 2026 will still be good if our FO proves to be savvy and our owners continues to spend money. Let's not throw 2020 out the window for 2026 when both can be convention years.
  20. No thanks. I want all division teams to fail and then sell off good players for prospects that bust lol.
  21. I'm not sure this is accurate. 2 of those will probably be here if they play well.
