  1. Yeah he is gonna cost what he is gonna cost. Even if he continues to play solid he will get a decent sized deal being a one year wonder. If we wait and he has another all star year next season, we will have to pay more, but it would be worth it.
  2. I think out plans haven't changed much even with the injuries yesterday. We need to acquire an Ace from another team and a number three type starter. We can do that with our low payroll. We also need to leave Lopez and Rodon in the bullpen to stabilize it. Add a few bullpen arms in FA and we would be okay. The rest of our money should go towards a competent RF and a one year DH guy.
  3. In today's baseball world half of your pitchers will get TJS if not more. Get it out of the way now and move on. We will still have Kopech, Gio, Cease, FA, and another guy next season. We can add two starters to cover our bases and still have a guy like Lopez and Rodon if need be. Bullpen help can be bought in FA if it comes to that. Forward, we shall move.
  4. Hence why I said as of now and not over the years or in the future. Let's not get offended by a simple point. The point is, we can overcome a bad contract if we have a talented roster, thus we shouldn't be afraid to go big while our guys are cheap. And yes, right now he'd be a top player on our team. Hopefully next year he won't be.
  5. Weren't you the one asking us to take the Cubs talk to the Cubs forum earlier when we discussed how bad contracts could hurt our rebuild?
  6. Being a fan is wanting the prospect to succeed. Being unrealistic is saying the prospect will be better than Machado at any point. Or that the prospect is a surefire great player in the making when trying to discount the acquisition of a 5 to 7 WAR player.
  7. You can still change your pitcher if something does take place like that.
  8. Because most teams can guess who your pitcher is going to be. In this case it may be to keep them guessing, any other scenarios of us doing this is dumb.
  9. I think some other bum would have taken his place. It's possible we'd be a little better. But then again, if we didn't bring in James and sucked so much, maybe we don't do a full rebuild.
  10. Tatis didn't come up til this year, so I don't think it changes much. I'm over the trade, but it helps if our young guys become good players.
  11. That's how rebuilds work often times. In one year players get better. The FO will probably overhaul our pitching if need be. We will improve our positional weaknesses with good talent. We also play in a weird division. So the results of this season have no bearing on next season.
  12. We wouldn't have a losing team if we brought in pitching and a new manager.
  13. If you can't hit the baseball, you cannot have a power tool.
  14. What is his one tool? He's had zero tools with us this year.
  15. The Cubs talk is relevant because it shows a point of how teams with good talent aren't devastated by bad contracts. Heyward is one example. So thus, the Sox shouldn't be afraid to sign a big fish who may bust because they have enough talent now on their roster to offset a bad signing. Thanks.
  16. Sure, because you say so. Heyward is about a 1.4 WAR. And who cares about his money? My point is people shit on Heyward because of his contract which is fine. My point is the Cubs aren't devastated as he still provides value to them and they have a great team around him. And I said he wasnt better than McCann or Moncada. I also said an argument could be made for Anderson, not a strong argument, but his good center field defense could be a preference depending on your teams needs. Having a great team makes bad FA contracts a lot easier to stomach, which was the main discussion.
  17. They sure could. Heyward is having just as good an overall season than everyone except McCann and Moncada. His good defense could make it an argument with Anderson, Abreu, and Eloy for third as it stands right now.
  18. I am reserved on Hahn and Kenny as they have failed. However, our core position players should be fine and we can add elite talent there. We will need to acquire two good starters from other organizations as we cannot trust our staff yet.
  19. The reason our FA stung was because our team wasn't a true contender to begin with. Once you get a great young roster, those stings won't hurt as much. One could even argue that Heyward right now would be the 3rd best player on our team.
  20. Not when all of your good players are here the next 4 to 8 years on first contracts. If we were concerned about this problem, we could have front loaded his contract and gave him a 5th year opt out. The two benefits are if he is good or decides to opt in, his annual salary would be much lower when we need to pay other guys. If he opts out because the salary is lower the last 5 years, we don't have to pursue him. If he opts out and we want him, we can just offer a good bid. We were set up where we could offer him a big deal and pay to get a quality pitcher as well. The rest of the roster would have just been fine tuning with guys looking to prove themselves.
  21. He very well should as he's been saving money and the team can compete next year. 140 million would put him at league average.
  22. I don't think many disagree that Madrigal will be awesome, it's just that we could have constructed a better roster by signing Manny and trading him for a front line starter.
  23. Sign Machado and Moncada makes ASG at second base. Trade Madrigal in a package for high end pitcher on mediocre to bad team. Sign Bum or Stras. Machado, Anderson, Moncada. Top end starter from trade and Bum or Stras.
  24. Well the Sox gave 13 million to Alonso and Jay for essentially nothing, so I'd say they are.
