I don't think next year will be a get back to .500 season. They will spend money this off season and call up Robert and Madrigal in April. Not to mention our division will have the awful Royals and Tigers, the sliding Indians, and an unknown Twins team after their pending talent loss. Next season will most likely be a get back to 95 wins season.
It's because these guys lack tools. No speed, no hit tool, no defense, etc. We bring them in as home run hitting lumber Jacks. Thise days need to be over and we need to be more diversified with our hitters.
Maybe, but you wouldn't have to. If James needs a break let him DH and Collins catch. If James gets hurt, move Collins to catcher and let some else DH on the roster.
Teams who compete year end and year out spend big bucks. It doesn't always work out, but they are mostly in the contention conversation. Those frugal spenders tend to be the one hit every 5 to 8 year wonders and playoff flameouts.
Let's not forget 7 positions are also set for us. So we shouldn't fill one spot with a great player but instead go cheap on both. In all seriousness, we can afford a good position player and a good pitcher this offseason. Then we can fill in the gaps.
But he is better than the group we have out there. He does have hot stretches and you just have to hope for a few to make the season a little more fun.
